A very unique setting. Enjoyed cocktails in the Traxx bar before dinner. For dinner, we had a choice of tables in the dining room or on the courtyard patio. We dined on the patio. Service was very attentive, drinks served promptly, and our food was tasty. Valet parking in front of Union Station is free for the first 3 hours. We look forward to a return visit.

I read the reviews on yelp for this restaurant and immediately purchased train tickets for my husband and I to come from Orange County to have a night to remember for our anniversary. We were so disappointed. It's a restaurant in a train station - that part I knew but that's where it ends. No big deal. From the reviews, I thought it would be a fairly high end unique experience. Not so. If you are passing through connecting from one train to another then stop in for a cocktail. Otherwise, not so much.

DineLa menu was very limited, only two choices. My friend had chicken posole, which she said was good. I had the Waldorf salad, which was really amazing! My friend tasted my salad & she really enjoyed the flavor too! Our server was very polite & helpful too. We liked that this place was @ union station & it's just beautiful in there!

  • Best Experience of My Life

    Dined on 7/6/2012
My dining experience at Traxx surpassed any other meal I have ever had that I thought was good. Not only did we get delicious appetizers, (the salmon pancake, the crabcakes, and the mussels soup), and mouth-watering entrées, (the beef tenderloin), but the desserts, (the crème brûlée, the chocolate torte, and the bread pudding), made my companions and I sigh with glee. We plan on attending in the near future with other friends.

We had a magical, leisurely dinner before boarding an overnight train. The lanterns in the trees in the outdoor courtyard helped create a lovely setting, although the interior of the restaurant in historic Union Station is also beautiful. We often travel by train and always have lunch or dinner at Traxx if the schedule permits. The food is always outstanding and it is a wonderful way to begin a vacation (or make a business trip feel like one!). On this evening we had the halibut with a corn "chowder" sauce which was the perfect balance of favors and textures. Delicious!

Attentive, well paced service; well prepared and vibrantly flavored appetizers, entrees, and desserts; and inside it is quiet which is so unusual these days. Just one metro stop from Disney Hall, the Opera House, the Ahmanson Theater, and the Mark Taper Forum.

This is so perfect for meeting a client. I came from San Diego on the train, he came from Santa Barbara. We met for a very long business lunch and had great service as we worked. I've also been here for dinner with friends after a matinee play in L.A., before catching the train back to San Diego. This is a great place!

A friend and I arranged to meet at Traxx. It is very convenient for two people from opposite sides of LA to meet there as it is a transportation hub. He and I both enjoy taking public transportation. Moreover, it is an excellent restaurant in a beautiful building with great ambiance. It was a super nice day, weather-wise, so we asked to sit outside. The sun was hot but the courtyard had some umbrellas and trees so we found some shade. I have enjoyed my every visit to Traxx although I wish the menu were larger so I'd have a few more items to choose from.

We staretd off with the crabcakes and really enjoyed them- they had a good portion size and a balance of flavors. We both needed advice for dinenr choices adn were provided with really helpful suggestions. My friend chose the fish and that was really fantastic. Fresh ingrediants and prepared perfcetly. The outside was crispy and lovely while the inside was moist and flavorful. I got the beef dish which was a little heavy on the sauce, but was cooked perfectly. We were really pleased by the attentive service and the overall quality of the experience. It's a gem packed away in Union Station, full of the after-work crowd. Food was really good but a little cold by the time it got to us. Overall, a good deal and a must-see for LA diners.

What a fantastic find!! We are from Northern Cal and traveled to LA for our sons graduation. I wanted a nice restaurant near downtown that was quiet as we had our older parents who have hearing problems. Found Traxx online so it was a leap of faith but after reading reviews decided to give it a try. It's actually inside the old Union Station which is one of the most magnificent buildings on the inside. There were 8 of us and we all had different salads and entrees. My in-laws are really picky when it comes to food and they could not stop talking about how delicious it was. Not only delicious but everything beautifully presented on your plate. Great service too. We will definitely go back!!!

Although long lasting, this established restaurant located in L.A.'s famed Union Station lacks personality. The food was memorable, the service good, but would take a pass if it were the night on the town with high expectations. Seems to be established mainly for those train travelling... which would make sense.

Great experience! Had a lovely luncheon (myself a first time guest & my friend has been a frequent guest.) I loved everything about the restaurant. Thought that the menu offerings were perfect...not so much to made decisions difficult. My selection was the Breast of Chicken with Warm Basil Scented Farro Salad, Goat Cheese & Toybox Tomatoes. The presentation was very appealing and the flavor was amazing! I have been raving to anyone who will stand still long enough about what a sneak spot Traxx @ Union Station is and that they owe it to themselves to experience it for themselves! Yum Yum P.S. The wait staff was most attentive and efficient too.

  • Appetizers were quite good

    Dined on 4/12/2012
Appetizers were quite good all around. We were three, of whom two ordered the risotto and a fish dish to share as main course, requesting that the risotto be served first and then the fish. The third ordered the risotto on his own. The result was that the first two found the risotto excellent and the fish overcooked, while the third thought that his risotto had been prepared with the others' and then left to sit. A pity, as the preparations were interesting seeming, and we really wanted to like it more.

It would be easy to just dish up mediocre food in such a spectacular setting, but they go the distance at Traxx. Food was good, prices were moderate, service was excellent without being fawning. When in LA, it's a must-stop. Just wish the bar had more room.

Had a great time. It was too cold to eat out in the station, so that was disappointing, but the table inside was lovely. Very few patrons that night, but the food service was slow in coming. Very good food; I recommend the stripped bass, and their crab cakes are very fine for an appetizer; however they seem to be always understaffed at dinner, when another server would help greatly, which makes it a little frustrating when you want to get out to attend a concert or the theater on time. Nice ambiance since it's located in an historical landmark building.

I travel through Union Station nearly every day and always want to stop at Traxx because it looks so good. Somehow a fine restaurant is an unexpected pleasure in a train station! So a few times I have arranged special luncheons there for a small group of friends. This latest time we were unfortunate to eat there a week before Christmas when several large groups were there - and we were were served last. We arrive on time at 12:30 and ordered soon thereafter. We were finally served at 1:15. Since most people have only an hour for lunch, I consider this unacceptable. However, in normal times (i.e., not the holiday party rush) the service is probably considerably better. I hope to check it out again sometime.

This was the perfect choice for my proposal. Living so close to Union Station, I'd always been curious about Traxx and heard such good things about their menu and fantastic service. I was not disappointed. My table was ready well before my reservation time and was spotless, comfortable, and located within the portion of the restaurant that resides in the great main hall of the station (which is exactly what I requested). Though the menu item I was most hoping to order was sold out - I found a fantastic alternative option, as did my fiancee. The server let us stay late and take our time enjoying the meal we shared (complete with a fantastic dessert). We enjoyed ourselves immensely and look forward to our joined life near such a great place!

I ususally enjoy Traxx but the Waldorf Salad that I have eaten in the past has changed. Not for the better. Instead of a typical Waldorf, it is now a bowl of frisee greens with a few slivers of green apple, a few nuts and some chicken. The usual Waldorf salad dressing has been changed to a green oil and vinegar, which while tasty, is not well suited to this particular salad. All in all, a disappointment. I would have told the waiter but he never came back or asked how our meal was.
