A word from Trax Restaurant & Cafe
Chef/Owner Steven Waxman opened Trax in the restored Ambler train station in 1989, after many years in his family wine business. Chef Waxman’s early career in the wine industry took him across the globe from Napa Valley and Burgundy – sampling fine wines & eating outstanding regional cuisine. Those early culinary experiences coupled with apprenticeships in restaurants along the East Coast motivated him to open his own restaurant, where people could enjoy food as extraordinary as the wines in their private collections. His goal was to prepare a menu that would satisfy the most discriminating palate – his own.

Whenever possible, Chef Waxman gets ingredients from small, local purveyors and farms that he knows he can trust. Some of the herbs and vegetables are even grown in the restaurant’s award-winning garden, which won a “Community Greening Award from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society.

Sometimes I forget that just across the tracks there is another great food option in Ambler - no, not McDonald's! Trax has been around for awhile, but for some reason we stick with Deterra, Mezza, or Up from the Boot, with an occasional foray down to KC's - all good in their own way. But Trax continues to provide a great dining experience at a fair price - with the added benefit of being a BYOB. Service is really good, despite the fact that our waiter had his hands full covering the entire dining room on a Thursday night. He checked back with us frequently enough, without being intrusive. The brisket was tender and tasty, and the Veal Chop special was superb. Don't know how they can make a place like this work economically, but the food is excellent, and we are glad they're still close--by.

This is a true example of a chef's passion - food is creative and delicious and served with grace and ease. My partner has several allergies and they were addressed comfortably well. In no way is this a complaint, but the dining environment is very noisy, especially during winter months when porch and windows are closed.

Trax is Excellent. We had an early dinner before seeing a show in Ambler. Everyone really enjoyed each course very much. The Arugula salad was dressed perfectly, and the portabella mushroom was a great complement. My parents shared the Roasted Corn Crab Pudding and both loved it. The barbecue special was perfect, ribs that fell off the bone, and pulled pork that was just great. The spicy slaw had a perfect balance of spice and sweet from crisp juicy apples. Fortunately we did save some room for dessert, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. I'm looking forward to my next visit.

We were extremely pleased with the ambiance, menu, service, and quality of the food. Pricing was completely in our control because Trax is BYOB. Trax is in walking distance to Ambler's Act II Playhouse and the Ambler Theater which are the venues that bring us to Ambler. Dining at Trax allowed us to park the car early, enjoy a fabulous dinner, and finish the evening with good entertainment.

We sat out side on the patio of this repurposed train station which has clearly seen better days, It was a weeknight and the commuter trains were frequent and interrupted our conversation. Some may find this charming, but we'll sit inside next time. The real revelation is the quality of the food. The presentation is eye-popping and flavors show a real understanding of the ingredients by the chef. Our server was friendly and accommodating. We'll go back!

I recently enjoyed a birthday dinner at Trax Café. Started out with a fabulous roasted vegetable bisque that was probably the best soup I've ever had. Moved on to a juicy, delicious pork chop (not anything you would find at a supermarket). Finished with a lovely dish of fresh local fruit. My dining companions raved about the peach crisp and the brownie sundae. Trax is a local gem - I have been there many times and have never had a bad meal. The venue is small (a restored train station), but outdoor seating expands the availability in the summer. BYOB is great, as you can spend your money on the outstanding food. Service is also excellent.

Between the tastefully renovated intimate setting in a small Train Station, outdoor dining and the menu featuring local grown food presented elegantly, this was my best dining experience of the summer. I enjoy a less formal setting with unpretentious class and this was it. We had a wonderful and comfortable evening, The web site conveys the place nicely, though it doesn't emphasize the wonderful outdoor décor to it's fullest. Not inexpensive but worth every cent. This will become a regular place at the top of my list. Bon Appetit !!

It was a good restaurant for a get together with friends. The server spaced the courses so that we had time to chat. It was on a week day evening so that could have made a difference. Since the restaurant is located in our childhood home town, it made it fun to reminiscence. The food was very good and the presentation was well done. We all had something from the fixed price menu. I would definitely do this again.

Trax with Chef Steven Waxman is one of the original restaurants that use local food and produce that is now copied by many area restaurants. We have been dining their regularly since it first opened. His menu is creative and the recipes always very enjoyable. It can be a touch noisy inside when the place is crammed as it can be especially in colder months. It is always fun to go and we recommend it for some [lace different and VERY enjoyable.

First time we have been at Trax in a while. We sat down to find there was a restaurant week special, which was great. I thought the menu gave us enough options to go with the three course price fix. We put our order in and sat..... for a while. The waitress did come and apologize, but the restaurant really wasn't busy enough for this delay. Apps came and they were good, and then we waited again. Dinner a was good again and we don't like to be rushed but this was the opposite. So don't be in a hurry or even on a schedule. The ambiance is nice and it is more roomy then on previous visits and the food is always good.

Took my mom here for dinner as it is now one of her favorite spots. I requested a quite table by the window and when we walked into the restaurant, our table was waiting as requested. The ambiance in the restaurant is quaint and subdued and it is fun watching the trains go by. The restaurant is dark, but nicely lit with tea lights that makes the dining room very relaxing. The food was very good and Kate our server was very friendly and efficient and makes sure that you are well taken care of. Prices are a little on the high side, but since it is a BYOB, it is still a better deal than most nice restaurants.

What can I say? - this is our 6th or 7th time dining here - the food and service were once again excellent. As it was a nice evening we dined outside at a table close to the train tracks, and train traffic was low. We enjoyed our dinner so much even if a train had gone by we didn't notice! Staff and servers provided were their usual great service. They had my favorite soup, and adjusted my wife's order to accommodate her gluten intolerance. Can't wait for an excuse to go back again.

I would highly recommend this BYOB restaurant. The food was amazing, especially the asparagus wrapped in prosciutto, crab risotto with scallops and the sea bass. I would suggest, if sitting outside, to sit away from the railroad tracks. The noise and wind from the train is annoying. Other than that, this is a great place to go.

It was a wonderful night for outdoor dining - temperature just right - no bugs and the overhang kept away the gentle rain that fell intermittently. When a train goes by it is a conversation stopper (and then restarter), but it is overall very pleasant on a nice night (from previous experience, I'd give the indoor dining ambience a 3 star score- it's a bit crowded and loud, when everyone is packed in). The food is reliably good at Trax - the crab cakes and lamb dishes are among my favorites.
