Diner Reviews
  • "This was our first time at this restaurant and expect to return. Menu was extensive and there were so many wonderful choices."

  • "Average at best. Antipasto plate appetizer was a disappointment. It had slices of tough prosciutto (sliced way too thick), very strong cheese which was almost inedible, & very oily grilled eggplant. Only the marinated peppers & fresh mozzarella tasted good. The Veal Milanese was overcooked, tough and grisly and not pounded thin, as this dish is should be prepared. The spicy shrimp & zucchini pasta was tasty but somewhat oily & VERY SPICY. The dessert cart offered nothing appealing--just mass-produced cakes. Not sure why this restaurant gets the favorable reviews that it does--perhaps it's busy because it is the only non-chain italian food available in the area. Will not go back. Ever."

  • "a favorite dining place for us and friends.....have gone three or four times a year for special occasions, family dinners and when just wanting a really nice dinner and ambience...."

  • "The food & service were outstanding. Only reason I gave it a 4 was because it was so loud my fiancé and I could barely hear each other."

  • "I had a nice veal rolled with spinach and cheese; the portion seemed a bit small but delicious. My wife really liked her cinnamon squash ravioli. I requested a romantic table for 2 and was seated right in the middle of the room."

  • "After having one bad experience here a few months back we tried it again and have relaized why it's the BEST Itailian restaurant on teh South Shore - Kudo's Vinnie!"

  • "The brocoli rabe with the shrimp is superb as an appetizer. We dine there frequently and each meal is good as the other. Sauce is one of the best there is. It's great not to have to go into the North End to get a great Italian dinner."

  • "This was our second dining experience here. The first was just for drinks and apps at the bar (the carpaccio was salty and lacking capers). This time we sat down for dinner. The dining room is very pretty and the fire creates a lovely ambiance. The service was attentive. The food, however, was not good. The lobster ravioli itself tasted like it had come from a grocery store freezer and the sauce had no distinctive flavor - just a lot of salt. I had the pasta special and again, the flavors were not rich or memorable and the most prolific taste in my mouth was salt (I cook with salt so its not like I am against it!). Not good. Will not be returning."

  • "By far the best italian food on the South Shore. No need to travel into the North End to find great italian, it's right in the neighborhood. Staff is friendly and informative. I will definitely be dining here again soon."

  • "Food was luke-warm and lacking flavor. Not what I remember from many years ago."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "My wife enjoyed her meal, it was large version of mushroom tortellini. I had the Frutti de Mare. The calamari was undercooked nd chewy, the clams were chewy, the mussels were very small but tasty and the Shrimps were not very flavorful. The wait staff were friendly and attentive!!!!!! My wife would go back but I would not."

  • "Ask for table near fireplace, lower level. Upper level near bar is VERY Noisy. If you are looking for a QUIET romantic , this is not quiet. Romantic yes. Outstanding "perfect crown royal Manhattan". Caesar salad bland. But the special salad w/ strawberries, walnuts, etc wonderful. Hand made rolled past PERFECTt. Excellent staff."

  • "Everyone in our family goes out for dinner on their birthday to a restaurant of their choice. Every birthday we find ourselves at Trattoria San Pietro. Every meal is excellent, fresh, well prepared, sauces are outstanding, dessert cart is great. Staff is friendy and efficient."

  • "The food here is so authentic it was like being in Italy. I'm first generation Italian and so I am very picky when it comes to Italian food but this place was great! Even better was their Amaretto cake! A must have!"

  • "Very good food. Service very good considering it was a very busy evening. For an entree I odered the veal involtino. My dining partner ordered chicken parmasan. Both very good. As an appetizer we shared an antipasto and bowl of bolognese. Antipasto good, bolognese very good. Decided to cap off the meal with a cappucino. Bad choice. Cappacino was luke warm, almost cold. Thought about sending it back but did not want to wait around for a second cup. When I saw the bill, I wished I had sent it back. $9.00 for two cappucinos. Way over priced and bad cup of cappucino. What would have been 5 stars got dropped down to 4 stars at the finish line."

  • "Celebrated our 24th anniversary. Open table request for a nice table away from the entrance was adhered to. Kudos to the hostess!! The waitress was super busy but very efficient. She never forgot about us, knew everything about the menu and drinks. Nice to have someone who truly advocated for the restaurant. Very knowledgable and nice. The owner, whom I saw in the bar area, should be proud of his staff. The food was superb! My bride had the veal and I the pasta special. Don't hesitate to visit this great Italian eatery."

  • "I brought my wife to Trattoria San Pietro for Valentine's Day. The service was excellent. Our waitress was polite, knowledgeable and prompt. The menu was robust and the food was excellent. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a quiet night out."

  • "Food was great. Wine was great. Service was great. Came for our Valentines Day date and were pleasantly surprised. The fireplace is a nice touch, especially on the rainy night we were there. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We were seated promptly, offerred water by the bus boy, and then sat for ten minutes waiting for a waitress to stop by and take a drink order. I asked if the chef would do veal parmigian with linguini though it was not on the menu. The waitress said he'd do veal parm but not with linguini, only penne. Make sense to you? My Frutti di Mare with linguine was OK, thought the linguine was a touch overdone. I'd hoped for better from an italian restaurant. My wife and a friend asked to split an order of chicken parm. When we pointed out to the waitress that the "chicken" was actually veal, she said that it was really thin chicken. Sorry, I know the difference. I've tried this place a few times, but they just don't get it. Not going back."

  • "We have been going Trattoria San Pietro for years and have never been let down. The food is outstanding, right down to the homemade pastas, steaks and chops and nightly specials. The waitstaff is friendly and informative. This is a great place to meet friends or just have a nice dinner for two at the bar."

  • "Fully occupied, the restaurant noise level wasn't at all bothersome. The wine list is good, w/something for all tastes. Raw oysters were cold and sweet, served with just lemon and hot sauce on the side. The caesar salad, WITH anchovies, was crisp and tasty. The three entrees ordered were Cotoletta alla Milanese (pan fried veal cutlet with mixed greens), Braciolettine di Vitello (veal stuffed w/sliced prosciutto and scamorza cheese, finished w/a wild mushroom Madeira sauce), and Costate Corte Brasate, a succulent braised short rib (boneless) in a Chianti demi glace’, accompanied by wild mushroom risotto. Though the staff was very busy, we were never rushed. Our waiter, Dennis, was attentive but never intrusive. Thank you, Dennis!"

  • "Nice restaurant with delicious food and a fantastic waitstaff. You'll definately want to make reservations for a weekend night out, especially for parties more than four. A nice place to go during the Christmas holidays - there's a nice view of the village gardens next door and all of the Christmas trees, very festive."

  • "My most favorite restraunt. Has not been in a while and was not dissapointed. Amazing food, amazing service and always comfortable. Small tables and slightly loud but adds to the whole experience. Brought three friends that had never been and they were still talking about the food a week later. Can't wait to go again. Going to make it a regular habit with the girls!"

  • "On a rainy winter evening, we were delighted with the food and service. Two of our party had never been to Trattoria San Pietro before and two of us hadn't. All four of us were delighted with everything. Good food, good wine chooses with affordable wines, great desserts. All in all, a wonderful evening. We'd definitely go to this restaurant again. In fact we told friends about it the day after who haven't been there."

  • "We enjoyed our first dining experience at Trattoria San Pietro. The service was excellent, the food delicious and the decor warm and cozy. We were lucky enough to get a table by the fireplace which we LOVED. The only downside is that the restaurant is small and so they must cram in tables. It would be nice to have more space between the tables and a bit more privacy."

  • "We had a reservation for 8:30, arrived about 45 minutes early to have a drink. Bar area was very small, very tight, and very crowded, up 2 stairs so it overlooked the glassed in kitchen. Really no other place to wait. Got seated right on time, split a caesar salad (plenty for 2). I had the chicken saltimboca, which was delicious. My husband had a pork chop dish with peppers, he thought the sauce was a little overpowering but the meat was cooked perfectly. Thought about dessert, but was a little turned off by the uncovered cakes that had been sitting out all night long in the dining room. Got a cappucino martini and a chocolate martini instead. Delicious! Service was great. We'd definitely go back."

  • "The food is so good here. We went on New Year's Eve. We got the special appetizer of Stuffed Calamari. It was delicious. My husband said to me that I wouldn't like it, but he was shocked when I said I loved it. I got the Chicken Saltimbocca. It was too die for. Every time we got there, the food is delicious. Highly recommend this restaurant. It was recommended to me by a friend and I trusted his judgment. He was so right!"

  • "It took us a couple of years of living in the area before we tried this restaurant. I wish we had gone sooner. The restaurant has a very warm old feeling about it, not jazzed up like the newer restaurants and bars that all the youngin search for these days although I do notice that there are many young people that frequent it. Now the food is definitely old school Italian again something hard to find these days. Their pastas are always well prepared and their tomato sauce does not taste like it came out of a jar as it does in so many north end Italian restaurant. We definitely consider this place to be one of our regular stops now, no need or desire to travel all the way into Boston to find good solid Italian food. Service good & friendly."
