Diner Reviews
  • "We are never disappointed. The menu is always very interesting and the meals we order are always exceptional. This restaurant is truly a gem. Unfortunately, we ate a little late and one of the items we wanted was not available. However, that shows that the food is fresh."

  • "We had a lovely lunch. The service was excellent. Our waitress was knowledgeable about food and directions in the theater district. We could relax and still make time for the play. The noise level was low enough for conversation, which was good. For lunch we had a salad and both the organic chicken and the steak salad were delicious and satisfying. We asked for exceptions in the salad and there was no problem. The fresh berries and whip cream were delicious and fresh. The portion size was generous. The price is what you would expect downtown for a nice lunch with food and non-alcoholic beverages. We have been here before for wine, appetizers, & dinner and enjoyed it & would come back. FYI, acceptable dress, nice attire is the norm."

  • "The restaurant is located in a basement and has a "grotto" look to it. The atmosphere was nice. The service was impeccable. They have a nice selection of reasonably priced Italian wines - covering pretty much all the regions of Italy. We each had 1 appetizer, one pasta entree (butternut ravioli with walnuts is to die for; as well as parpadelle pasta with mushroom and herbs). We shared braised artichoke for the 2nd entree. While the flavors were great, I felt that the artichokes were still somewhat "woody". While they were one of the best artichokes I had in the US, they left a lot to be desired when comparing to those served in Italy. I would definitely dine there again."

  • "All six of us had very good food. The appetizers were especially good, with imaginative and tasty twists, like the beet ravioli. Like so many Chicago restaurants, there is a lot of meat here and a fair amount of fish too. A couple more vegan/ vegetarian options would be nice. We did appreciate the ready availability of gluten free pasta."

  • "Small plates a plus for sharing. Good wine list and food overall excellent except Taglitelle was stuck together . This can happen with fresh pasta."

  • "I have not been to Trattoria No. 10 for dinner in several years. I went this week. The food was excellent -- I had the veal. Very flavorful. I also had the cabrese salad -- it was excellent. Our server was outstanding. He accommodated several of our party arriving late. He also accommodated our theater deadline. I would definitely go back for dinner."

  • "Great Italian find near State & Madison; unexpected to find such a nice room down below since the entry from outside looks plain-Jane. Typical of some European spots. Food was well prepared. No draft beers, but oh well. Did not evaluate the wine list. Would come back but there are so many places to try in Chicago, probably will not return soon."

  • "Service great. Waitress was very friendly and professional. I would highly recommend her for all your customers. Food was wonderful. Would certain go back again. I had goat cheese salad and my husband had minestrone soup which was the best we have ever had. Gave a whole new meaning to minestrone soup. I would go back just for soup. My entree was soft shell crab. Again it was perfect with a wonderful lite sauce. Definitely would recommend."

  • "We have been to Trattoria No. 10 at least a half dozen times and we have always had outstanding food and wonderful service - . Went before the theatre on Friday - forgot our tickets in the car and the valet brought them in for us! From beginning - trio of cheese and the beet salad - to entrée - roast pork loin and squash ravioli - to dessert - profiterole with choc, van and pistachio gelato - everything was perfect. Steven was our waiter - excellent service. Trattoria No. 10 is our place to go when in the theatre district!"

  • "This restaurant never fails me. It is a welcoming oasis in a sea of frantic restaurants. The handmade pastas are always winners. Ravioli with asparagus was a real hit. Definitely will continue to return again and again."

  • "The was good for pretty good normal Italian fair. The things that was not good was that waiter recommended a glass of white wine for my wife and it was $14. One should not recommend the most expensive glass of wine. Our bill was $125 before tip. Way to much for pasta in my opinion."

  • "We have eaten at Trattoria No.10 many times and it has always been one of our favorite places in Chicago. We had never been there, however, for lunch and this was a meeting with our son who was visiting the area for business - we drove 3 hours to get there. We wanted to treat him to a "special" lunch. Service was great - it was quiet and we could talk but the food was really very ordinary. I had the duck confit with quinoa pasta and I would never order that again. It simply was not pleasant at all. My husband had the asparagus ravioli and said he would never order that again either. Maybe the chef was gone that day?"

  • "Recently dined at Trattoria No.10. It is a couple of blocks from The Palmer House and it was great! The food was delicious, our server attentive and the ambience was romantic. There was a larger group that was quite loud but when they left it was perfect! A must visit for Italian fare!"

  • "In a town full of red-sauce places, Trattoria No.10 is a breath of fresh air. Their speciality is a variety of homemade pastas, from several kinds of ravioli to farfalle to squid-ink black pasta--all absolutely delicious. Appetizers include a wide variety of hot and cold small plates--the wild mushroom crostini and the beet "ravioli" stand out. A nice selection of fish and meat dishes round out the menu, but I never get that far. The service is warm and helpful, with wait staff who are knowledgeable about both the food and the wine list. A wonderful experience."

  • "Normally very good, but I was not happy with the food last time. I don't know who was cooking. I had the Whitefish and the asparagus was overcooked and dry and the mushrooms were swimming in oil. Really not appetizing. Not what I expect from Trat. No. 10, which is normally very good."

  • "My current favorite place for before theater dining"

  • "I have been enjoying wonderful lunches and dinners at Trattoria No 10 for over 25 years, and a pre-theater dinner last week was better than ever. Although the restaurant was very busy, service was excellent, and the seasonal presentation of a soft shell crab, kale Caesar salad, and small portion of mixed seafood pasta were perfect!"

  • "We had a friend recommend Trattoria 10 while we were in Chicago and we truly enjoyed the experience. We had their homemade ravioli and it was every bit as good as our friend said it was."

  • "We love this restaurant, being our 3rd time return. The ravioli offerings are all spectacular, and the meat/seafood offerings are likewise perfect. This time we had two pasta dishes, and an appetizer. Combined with a perfect bottle of wine that the waiter kindly suggested (not the most expensive either) we had a memorable dinner for 2 for $138. The atmosphere is subdued, the setting is comfortable, and the food is delicious. What more could I want? The restaurant is steps from the Palmer House and other hotels nearby. We are not from Chicago, but I highly recommend this restaurant and will return again whenever I am downtown."

  • "I was happy to bring my out-of-town co-workers here to share this Chicago gem. I wanted to bring them here because the waiters have always been knowledgeable and fun, and the food is outstanding. We we not disappointed and they will remember the experience. We ordered the large-sized servings of a few of the ravioli's to share. These are the highlights of the menu. The dough is light and the fillings and sauce are awesome. Make sure you save room for and order the profiteroles for dessert! The highlight is the chocolate topping that is poured at the table."

  • "With in-laws born in Italy, I'm not impressed by restaurants who try to be so Italian-trendy, but have NO red sauce (not counting the extremely spicey) and pasta. The service was exceptional! Sarah made the meal fun."
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Unfortunately, the summer menu is quite different from what we saw online in that there were no entree salads. The number of dishes is quite limited and some of the portions are outrageously small. The italian wedge salad is excellent but the price is way out of line for the smallest wedge salad I have ever been served. Ditto, the shrimp ravioli which were just OK but outrageously priced. Will not dine in this restaurant again."

  • "I took a group of 5 total to this place, and we had not dined here before. Liked what ratings said, so we decided to try it. The restaurant is downstairs (kind of interesting--lends to the ambience)....all of us were pleased with our salads and I loved my beet "ravioli" with goat cheese!!!I also loved the butternut squash I chose for my entree--and others at my table liked the asparagus ravioli and other items. Pistachio gelato and dark chocolate gelato were great, and others at the table liked the tiramasu a lot--the grapefruit campari sorbet too! would go back!"
