Diner Reviews
  • "We had 6 people at brunch and we all ordered different items. Everyone was very happy with their meal and the staff was excellent."

  • "we went here for brunch, the food was mediocre at best. I do not plan on returning. "

  • "Had never heard of this restaurant before our lunch there to celebrate a birthday. What a nice surprise! I found it online, liked what I read, and decided to give it a try. The food was super, the staff very attentive, and the ambience was just right. We will definitely go back again, and again..."

  • "The pasta had way too much garlic. The fish had to be sent back as it was tough and tasteless. Other meals here have been good. So maybe the chef had an off night or lack of quality is creeping in. We'll see the next time."

  • "We only had lunch there once several months ago. Very good. So, this was our first dinner. It was every bit as good. The menu had many choices. We will return. By the way, our Italian waiter was actually French and charming."

  • "We had high hopes for a memorable dining experience as we walked into to this restaurant. The decor and layout of this eatery, is impressive, but the unremarkable cuisine did not fulfill the promise of the ambience."

  • "Salads were decent, but the wood fire pizza came out soft and soggy. Never had one like that. Had to ask 30 minutes into the meal for bread and dipping oil. Pasta full portion was really half at most other restaurants. Nothing terrible (except the pizza), but nothing stood out. Disappointing for a highly rated, popular restaurant."

  • "Trattoria Neapolis was recommended to me by a friend and I am glad I took him up on his recommendation ! The atmosphere and service were wonderful and made my experience incredibly worthwhile. I ordered the Taleggio Grilled Cheese and paired it with Great Divide Brewing's Yeti Imperial Stout which proved to be a lovely combination; the flavors of each complimented each other well while still retaining their own distinctiveness. I will certainly be coming here again in the future and will definitely recommend it to a friend as it was recommended to me!"

  • "We moved to Pasadena several months ago and had Neapolis on our list of restaurants to try. We were not disappointed. We came on a Friday night and from start to finish, the experience was first-rate. Attentive staff, fresh and beautifully presented dishes that were perfectly seasoned. We will definitely return. Looking forward to trying their brunch menu."

  • "This restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful inside, and the staff could not be more attentive or friendly. They made our 3 year old son feel more than welcome and were great with him, which we appreciated. The pizzas were perfect. The prices were reasonable as well. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "We come here often and are never disappointed. It is not your typical neighborhood restaurant and we like that. The room and staff present an environment that produces high expectations and the food and service deliver. It requires a reasonably intelligent approach but it hasn't disappointed us yet. Check it out."

  • "We were looking for a place to dine when in town. we saw the posting on line with varied opinions but decided to try for ourselves as the location was perfect for us and the menu looked interesting. we were not disappointed. our server was fantastic; he was energetic, knew the menu well and was able to recommend items. Service was prompt. It felt like we were in a New York restaurant with the décor and eh ambiance, The food was delicious and the cocktails just right. I would recommend it and would go again when in Pasadena.."

  • "Eaten here several times and never disappoints. Service is always superb. Opted for a pizza as a change from my usual order of the pork chop (always outstanding) or the short rib. Satisfied with the pizza but likely will order my usual entrees or pasta next time."

  • "The service was impeccable, the wine list excellent! Great place for special occasion. The acoustics could be improved. Or softened."

  • "I have eaten here several times. i went back this time hoping that it had improved. It is a beautiful restaurant with a genuine feel of Italy. The food however is just average. I would love to say otherwise. I ordered the pasta bolognese and it was presented as a lump of pasta and short rib beef. My boyfriend ordered the special of the evening which was guinea hen which was better than my entree. Then there was the service. When we asked for additional grated cheese it was basically dropped on the table. This restaurant was crowded on a Saturday night which says that it has its fans. Personally I think the service and the food need improvement."

  • "Tried the short ribs, which I believe are new on the menu, and they were amazing. And do yourselves a favor: even if you think you won't like it, order the wood-grilled octopus appetizer. I've had it several times now, and it is perfect."

  • "I took my best friend there for dinner and we loved it. The waiter thought we were husband and wife. I would recommend this for a first date, anniversary or any special occassion."

  • "This vibrant restaurant in Pasadena reminds me of a restaurant you might find in the Windy City. Large comfortable booth seating surrounds the wide bar. The garden room is also nice. Food is consistently good and the menu is broad enough to appeal to many different tastes. Roasted Branzino was perfectly prepared as were other entrees my guests ordered. There is an ample selection of pastas and the salads we tried were imaginative and fresh. The wine list is wonderfully varied offering both European and Californian wines at more than fair prices. The wait staff is both attentive and knowledgeable. With a reasonably priced menu and free parking in the rear parking lot after 7pm, this is a fabulous value in Pasadena or Chicago!"

  • "this is a GEM in Pasadena. OUTSTANDING service and EXQUISITE cuisine. A definite keeper. Will be back again. FOOD was phenomenal; only outdone by magnificent wait staff. Delicious and authentic Italian. try the grilled baby octopus."

  • "The staff was very welcoming and friendly, Four of us dined at lunch on a Tuesday. We selected various items from the menu ranging from entree salads, pizza, and pasta. I made the right choice of selecting their cavatelli pasta w/truffles, asparagus, mushrooms. One of the best pasta dishes I've had in years. If I were to go back, I would concentrate on their pasta and interesting salad selections over the pizza and sandwiches. Anna"

  • "The carbonara is some of the best I've had in town, the pizza could be amazing (if they didn't skimp on toppings!), but its a bit dry. Loved the prosciutto/pear appetizer too. Despite all of that? The service has been sub-par with stark consistency. Waiters seem to forget about tables regularly and offer no remorse for it. Not one person even looked our way for about 30-minutes! The building is beautiful and has potential if they could figure out how to provide better service. May return for happy hour, or a bar visit. Not too sure about dining here again though..."

  • "We sat in the sun room and the decor is beautiful. The server was very friendly but went missing for most of the meal. The food was fair - certainly not the best Italian in Pasadena. The donuts for desert were outstanding and the best part of the meal. Might be a nice place for happy hour but cannot recommend lunch."

  • "My wife and I usually love this place, but it fell below usual standards on Valentine's Day. Maybe the day's extra traffic gummed up the works. Service was pleasant, but we had a long wait for our entrees. The day's fish special was a little below the quality of food I've enjoyed here previously but my wife's short ribs were yummy, as were the Brussels sprouts we shared. We were pleased by the kitchen's willingness to serve raw clams, a favorite of my wife's but not on the menu. They graciously split our appetizer serving of clams, half of them steamed for me and the other half as she desired. I also enjoyed one of my Neapolis favorites, the beet salad, and our decadent gelato sundae. Figuring Cupid might be the culprit, we will return."

  • "We both enjoyed our meals, my wife said the pork chop was the best she ever had. . . My pasta was good. It lacked much in the way of exceptional flavor , sad in a bolognese . I asked for a little extra sauce, was told the chef makes it special and take about 3 minutes. 10 min later I had to ask about it. Took another 10 min and looked like a can of stewed tomatoes was heated up. Completely different color texture and taste from the sauce in the pasta. Service stunk. Waiter came around for the drink order but Had to get his attention to place a appetizer order, he then tried to take the wine list before we ordered dinner. then the appetizer came and I asked if they offered bread for the table and he went "oh right, it should be here."

  • "Food okay, service okay but don't let them seat you at the very back (the last booth). It was too close to the back entrance and too close to the kitchen. Too many people walking by. People coming and leaving, kitchen staff talking and people looking for the restroom. Server was good but I think he forgot us a couple of times. Unfortunate for a special dinner."

  • "We really enjoyed the look of the restaurant and thought the food and service was fantastic. I ordered the lobster arancini balls and for runner the braised short ribs. My wife ordered their equivalent of a meat lovers pizza. All the dishes were great. Now the downsides, 2 main points. Couples tables are much too cramped making for a somewhat awkward experience as you feel like your part of several conversations around you but not being able to talk about anything personal since you know everyone else on either side will be able to hear you. The 2nd part is drinks. Far too expensive. Wine glass started at $11 and bottles $38. And corkage is $20 a bottle on BYOB."

  • "Top to bottom, everything about this place is AWESOME. The main dining area is lively and fun, but if you're looking for some quiet time there are some perfect booths in back. The wine list has excellent choices for every taste and price point. The menu has great variety but isn't so extensive that the food quality suffers. Everything we ordered was excellent and the service was perfect. This is our new favorite place!"

  • "I've been here several times for dinner and always had overall good experiences. For this reservation and review, I met a client here for a lunch meeting. First, I'd like to comment that many of the local "standards" in Pasadena for lunch are fine, but almost always crowded. At Neapolis, being newer than some of its neighbors on South Lake, the energy is a bit more mellow, at least during lunch time. For that reason, it was perfect for this lunch as the noise level was under control and we could speak in a normal tone. Secondly, I'd say their lunch menu has some nice options.. They have "half and half" deal that I ordered a delicious broccoli and bacon soup and a chicken/apricot salad. Soup was 5 stars, the salad 4. Service was good."

  • "Charming waiter, delicious food and old world, yet hip decor. It was very busy, and the food took a little long to arrive, but the waiter was charming and helped keep us at ease. All things considered, we really enjoyed the evening."

  • "We were disappointed in our evening. The service was not adequate for a Pasadena restaurant and adversely affected our experience. Our server was not helpful with substitution for the sides, did not seem knowledgeable with the menu items, did not return to pour wine, and did not provide attention during the meal. We dined on the mezzanine which they refer to as "fine dining". The area overlooked the bar with a TV on a playoff game and was not quiet. Pamela the hostess was very courteous and helpful. Two in our party have diet restrictions and when we called to confirm our reservation and inquire if substitutions were a problem, Pamela assured us that was not a problem. Our server evidently did not get that memo. WE dined 0n Jan11, 2014"

  • "Great food, beautiful atmosphere, changing menu with lots of options. I had the Darling Clementine to drink, which was super delicious. If I weren't the one driving, I would have had 3-4!! The winter caprese is a wonderful reinvention of the caprese and worth ordering. My chicken Marsala was good. Maybe too much chicken and not enough mushrooms. But tasty with the creamy polenta. None of us were big fans of the chocolate semifreddo, but the apple crostata with Rosemary was outstanding, as always!!!"
