Diner Reviews
  • "Great service and good. Fish was excellent as well as Beet salad. Lite on salt and oils which we enjoyed."

  • "The best turkey meatballs on the planet. Veal Osobucco is also one the best I have ever had."

  • "I wanted to love this place, but feel like it is all hype. I heard about Trattoria Mollie listening to a radio interview. Further reviews said the food was good, but service so so. My initial thought was they were understaffed, but that wasn't it. Our server just kind of disappeared. When we did catch her attention, we had to remind her of prior requests. As for the food, my wife's Gnocchi was overcooked and mushy. My daughter ordered a Caesar salad with chicken ($22) for soggy lettuce and 6 thin strips of hammered out chicken breast, her friend ordered a plain Caesar salad for dinner ($8) - very little on the plate and also overdressed. My risotto was aright, could have used more flavor. Skipped dessert and sadly won't be returning."

  • "The food quality at this restaurant is exceptional. Everyone of the staff members if friendly and helpful making for one of the best dinning experiences we have had in the Santa Barbara area."

  • "We were so pleased with our dinner at Trattoria Mollie last Saturday night. Our server was so gracious, friendly, and informative - a hallmark of this beautiful spot and the reason we chose to dine here. We started with a delicious bottle of Barbaresco wine and a Margherita pizza. Both were recommended and justifiably so. I had the Branzino with mushrooms and my husband enjoyed the chicken meatballs with spaghetti. All was delivered to our table piping hot, in concert, and perfectly cooked. We plan to make this a regular dining venue whenever we are in lovely Santa Barbara."

  • "My friend and I had a truly amazing meal. We were spoiled for choice in the wine list. Our mains were excellent and the service was impeccable. I only wish that we lived local so we could visit more often !"

  • "Chef Mollie's reputation is well deserved! It's no wonder celebrities line up to dine at her eponymous palace of gustatory delights ."

  • "Oprah & President Obama are among the many fans of Mollie Ahistrand, the chef/owner of Trattoria Mollie, and now, so am I!! Evidently, a lot of celebrities dine at Trattoria Mollie and when we went, Topher Grace (of "That 70s Show") was dining at the table behind us. Chef Mollie was there too & you might think with all of her accolades, she might be "directing" the work rather than doing it herself...but, she was working hard in the kitchen. She was also quick to smile and say thank you as we were leaving, as if we were celebrities ourselves. In case you think I was so star struck that I wouldn't pay close attention to the food...you would be wrong! I savored each bite of the frutte di mare pasta that I had; it was divine!!!"

  • "Trattoria Mollie offers authentic Italian cuisine in a uniquely warm setting. We like the quality and consistency of the food and the service, also the fact that it is equally fine for a romantic evening for two or for a larger group. As a minor point, we appreciate the Trattoria's focus on fine wines versus hard liquor."

  • "Food was fantastic , Mollie is an outstanding chef and always around monitoring closely level of attention to food and quality. Staff is a bit scattered and not so attentive."

  • "From the appetizers to the dessert, everything was outstanding - especially the waitress who made sure to guide us to the most flavorful and special entrees, appetizers and desserts. We came because of the famous turkey meatballs, but they were only one of the many stars on the menu. The even specials of spotted prawns were unique served with homemade pasta in fresh red sauce that had just the right amount of seasoning. The topper was the panna cotta dessert that was by far the best ever tasted anywhere - including Italy. Don't miss it. Overall A++"

  • "The turkey meatballs and perfectly coojed spaghetti were beyond my expectations! I can't wait to visit Santa Barbara again and eat at Mollies."

  • "We love heading to Mollie's for dinner, but this was the first time that we made it for lunch. What a treat. The food was superb as always. I really love the caprese salad and the roasted beets with arugula and goat cheese went over very well. The crostini al la fungi is to die for. I had a panini for lunch - super yummy. Also at our table - the tuna special was excellent and Mollie's meatballs, which are her signature dish. All around and excellent experience."

  • "I brought a group of friends here after telling them about the great food (I had eaten here before and had a great experience--but that was more than a year ago). This time our server was gracious and fun, and made sure we had bread, water and wine etc., however, the food was not great. The risotto was dry and hard-seemed like it may have been made with instant rice? The meatballs were spicy (and that's good), but the bread tasted bland and everyone else said their dishes were just OK. The prices here are very high (even by SB/Montecito standards) so we were disappointed in our experience. We decided to forgo dessert and have evening cocktails outside on the patio at the Biltmore overlooking the ocean--evening saved!"

  • "All 3 of us disappointed. Salmon very bad quality. Fillet mignon not tasty with no grilled or charcoal taste. Spaghetti with meat sauce was okay. Creme brulee had salt on top instead of sugar. This mistake made the browning of it taste burnt."

  • "We were so excited to eat here and sadly disappointed. The food was okay, not terrific, and not up to its expense -- very small portions and not well-described -- for example, Mushoom salad was a minute amount of arugula and a 1/4 cup of sauteed white button mushrooms -- very tasty but nothing extraordinary. Very slim-pickings for wine by the glass and a sad assortment for being in Santa Barbara where the wine is exquisite. I wanted this to be wonderful and it was mediocre. "

  • "My husband and I stayed in Montecito to celebrate our anniversary. Within walking distance to our hotel was this fabulous find. The food was incredible. We were warmly greeted when we entered, and our waitress was so accommodating and pleasant. But the food was to die for!!!! I enjoyed the BEST and freshest paste bolognese I have ever had. My husband enjoyed fresh Sea Bass cooked to perfection. Warm bread and wonderful olive oil and balsamic vinegar accompanied our meal. We shared creme brûlée as our dessert. I would return in a heartbeat!!!"

  • "Food was outstanding, especially the pasta dishes. Tiramisu was fantastic. Try the meatballs, not what you're used to, but fantastic flavor and texture."

  • "We celebrated our 29th wedding anniversary at Trattoria Mollie and could not have had a better time! I heard about the restaurant from the Oprah interview with Rob Lowe and Oprah is right...the Turkey Meatballs are to die for! All the dishes we ordered were great (there were 4 or us). The restaurant was very clean and the staff was great. I can't wait to go back when we're in the area. Thank you for a nice evening out!"

  • "Great food, but the service is extremely slow. I would understand if they were busy but they weren't. However I would eat there again because of the food! "

  • "I loved both my dish and my boyfriends dish. Although he did not care for his that much in the servings were quite small. Our very handsome waiter was rude and inattentive. However, the bus staff took up the slack and did things that he should have done. One of them even brought us extra cookies. So sweet. I did note in my reservation that this was for a birthday, although the restaurant chose to ignore that indication."

  • "I just had to have Oprah's famous turkey meatballs and they are fantastic! The best meatballs I've ever had. Excellent service must go vis!! Oprah's biggest fan, Myrna."

  • "Miss Mollie has some lovely vegan dishes on her menu. Bruschetta made of luscious, sweet tomato, basil with a touch of basil. Lentil soup. Best was the Rigatoni Primavera made so that the rigatoni has the flavor of the vegetable broth with fresh veggies. Very nice. The servers all seemed overwhelmed, nervously rushing about, and not friendly. Not so nice."

  • "Four of us celebrated a special occasion that was heightened by the wonderful dinner, warm welcome and supportive service we received at Trattoria Mollie. It was our first visit as we recently moved to Montecito. Each of us just relished our meals and the overall friendly, caring experience, thanks to Mollie and her staff!! It was a fun, relaxing and delectable evening. Thank you!!!"

  • "I'm embarrassed to say this but I wanted to go here because of Oprah!!!! This is her favorite restaurant! We had a very nice dining experience.... The staff was soooo amazing..... Food was very good.... Not impressed with the brushetta we ordered topped with mozarella and mushrooms... Very boring and on little toasts..... But the soup was outstanding.... It was a puréed vegetable soup.... Fabulous.... I had the chicken cacciatore which was absolutely fantastic.... My husband had the pasta crepe filled with ricotta and a little little spinach in a cream tomato sauce..... That was very good.... The tiramisu for dessert was fabulous.... They also brought homemade cookies... Those were wonderful.... We would definitely go back!"

  • "The only thing that would make Mollie's absolutely perfect is if were free and next door. Been back over and over and NEVER disappoints. Everything on the menu is fabulous. The carpaccio absolutely melts in your mouth and is offset by the nutty crunch of the perfect peccorino romano shaved slices. The house meatballs are just amazing with a unique recipe and a delicious marinara sauce with the right amount of spice. The ravioli appetizer in a light cream sauce is subtle with many layers of flavors and textures. The frutti di mare is the best I've had anywhere. Her pasta is so light and tender with the right al dente bite! Just a truly great dining experience."

  • "I'm deeply grateful for Trattoria Mollie. We were treated with utmost care and respect. As someone who is from a racial minority and who has experienced all sorts of treatment from Santa Barbara restaurants, it is a joy to find a place where courtesy is shown to all. I highly recommend Trattoria Mollie"

  • "This was our second time to Mollie's. Food is very good. Service is very attentive. A well know Montecito establishment. Décor needs some updating."
    Dined on 2/7/2014
  • "The food was outstanding. The table bread was perfectly soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, and the balsamic was a little sweet and not at all bitter. The entrees were delicious and very high quality. The tiramisu was delightfully fluffy and the creme brulee a wonderful consistency. My only deduction of a star on Ambience was that the resturant became full (a good thing!) and it got quite loud (not such a good thing)."

  • "Took clients on Friday night--food was outstanding-service was great--made a very favorable impression--glad I remembered this one, haven't been here in over a year and it was perfect! The ravioli with the sage butter was out of this world!! We all really enjoyed meeting Mollie!"
