The food is fabulous and the service is always excellent. The wine, the pasta, the antipasto, and the gelato are all outstanding. My only small quibble is that the menu seems to have gotten more traditional lately. Before there were several unique touches to the food; now it seems like classic Tuscan. However, everything is executed perfectly. Highly recommend. Fortunately we found Trattoria Lisina. Located in the country beside a winery and vineyards, it is in a very pleasant setting. The staff was welcoming, efficient and very helpful. The atmosphere was upscale but comfortable and quiet. We went on a Sunday evening so that may have played a part in it.
I am not big on most Italian food but this was excellent - reminding me of Da Mario's in Rome near the Spanish Steps and Piazza del Popolo. Their focus is on preparation of tasteful food and not on globs of cheese, sauce, etc. Reasonable prices on food, wine list was over-priced.

There was a wedding party going on but in a separate room so they could have all the fun they wanted and we could enjoy our dinner. For example, the waiter was asked and recommended a perfect wine (that was not too dry and not too sweet) for us to celebrate our 42d Anniversary. It's a 40 minute drive but we do it because this place is worth it. If you are there with a date, get in the outer rooms, a lot quieter and a great view of the grounds. The first time was for a college alumni get together, with a set menu - it was terrific. We recently came back, no reservation, but got right in. It was mid week, and food and service was terrific. Our guests were from Phoenix and loved the atmosphere as well as the food. We came back this last weekend and again were not disappointed. Once we arrived, we were stunned by the beautiful grounds. We really felt like we were in the Italian countryside, not the middle of the Texas Hill Country. I really wish we had come a bit earlier so we could have time to explore the grounds and check out the winery.
We had some severe issues with the service provided by our waitress.
However, the place is beautiful and the food was decent. Despite the welcome attention to families with kids, in the evening it was full of couples and wedding parties. It was bustling and fun, with attentive servers, a realistic old Italy ambiance with beautiful grounds overlooking the vineyard. The menu is smallish, with daily off-menu chef's specials and choices like rabbit, halibut, and lots of veal, but also had pizza and some interesting salads. The calamari was decent, and the bread and olive oil they serve made us both agree it is the best we've had! Prices were mostly in the $25 to $35 range. We ate in the large main dining room, near the kitchen and the well stocked wine locker. While the room is large and quite attractive it contains a number of large, hard, flat surfaces, the effect of which is to make the room quite noisy.
