A word from Trattoria Il Panino
Trattoria Il Panino is the kind of place that one would expect to find along the Amalfi Coast. It is a warm, friendly, unpretentious and a food-focused environment. From the casual and positive energy of the atmosphere and waitstaff, to the serious and professional energy of the kitchen, the front and back of the house form a desirable marriage. Il Panino is what it is, thank God!Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "IL Panino never disappoints. From the friendly greeting, attentive wait staff, great wines and service to the most important - excellent food expertly prepared and served, Il Panino is the perfect place. Even though small in the main room(my favorite) you never feel over crowded or cramped. Like dinning with good friends all around. The fettechini with pesto is the best in the North End! Veal Saltimboca also excellent.. I have never had anything I have not liked and that dish becomes my favorite until I try another dish. Great value and eating experience."

  • "I come here every time I am in Boaton and am never disappointed. It is always amazing!"

  • "The food was very good (please note that I am Italian): I had a bresaola carpaccio and pasta panna prosciutto; my wife had shrimps al limoncello and then a mixed grilled fish. Everything was fresh, well cooked and the plates looked nice. The waiters were nice and open and spent a long time talking to us about their stories, how they came to the US, etc. It was all very nice and personal. However, just to be clear, they did not waste any time and we had dinner in about one hour. The Chianti wine they suggested was excellent. We spent $55 each including tip. Very affordable for a romantic birthday."

  • "My dinner was absolutely delicious and one of the best pasta dishes I have every tried, but my two friends were less than satisfied. This of course is based on personal tastes. As for the service, we were overcharged by $8 for the bottle of wine we ordered and the waitress was presumptuous in serving us bottled water for $5 instead of tap water (which is great in Boston). Trying different places in North End is always a hit and miss and, despite the great reviews, next time I will probably stick with one of our favorites instead of Tratoria Il Panino."

  • "Seated immediately, Server a bit slow in getting to the table initially. Food was fantastic!! Need to consider a full bar, only serve beer and wine."

  • "Host was very accommodating, but there is a limited number of decent tables. Would still go back but will wait for warmer weather."

  • "We went off the menu and asked for chicken marsala rather than veal - no problem, and it was delicious! Also, we had ziti as a side and the sauce was very flavorful. Desert connoli also delicious. Only drawback was no cappucino, but cafe americano was great (but only milk; no cream) Overall, a great meal and wonderful service!"

  • "I am from NJ. I picked this restaurant based on the menu I saw on line. I was with friends and we all loved this place. Food was fantastic and our waitress Antonella was excellent. I wish I lived closer so I can eat there with all my friends."

  • "Best mussels and scallops! Pasta was ok to, but the seafood was the standout."

  • "My husband and I were transported back to our month long stay in Italia when we visited Trattoria Il Panino . Bread was so, so good, the calamari perfectly cooked, the zucchini blossoms a special treat and the pasta fagiole dense, flavorful and hearty. A wonderful lunch for a very cold and quiet winter day. Service was perfect."

  • "This was the second time we dined at Trattoria Il Panino. It was as fabulous as the first time. We ordered the stuffed artichoke which is my daughter's favorite. We also ordered the calamari. It was very tender and crispy. We enjoyed pasta dishes, good bread and excellent wine. This place is like eating at home with family. The staff is welcoming and attentive. We loved it."

  • "We tried Il Panino for a date night, and we probably won't go back. I wouldn't rule it out for life, but date nights are so rare that it's really a bummer when it's a disappointing experience. We were seated next to the soda/wine cooler, which really killed any potential ambiance. The ceasar salad was fine, nothing special. The chicken parm was rubbery, definitely nothing special. The mushroom ravioli was fabulous and we devoured every bite. I agree with a previous reviewer that the bread was stale. They must have cut it early in the night and let it sit out. The service was okay in that the server was polite. They brought us the wrong meal 3 times (yes, 3) before they eventually brought us what we ordered."

  • "Great Italian in the North End. Big plated entrees, though appetizers are pricy for their size. Would come here again though."

  • "It was great. Both the food and the service were outstanding."

  • "This has long been my favorite North End restaurant. My meal this time was the first disappointment in more than a dozen visits. While I typically get fish or pasta, I tried a veal dish this time. It was dry and boring, plus breaded, fried and not healthy. I hope to go back, but will stick with the dishes they do best! Service is always wonderful."

  • "This was my third time at the restaurant and the food was excellent as always, the service was also great. I did notice that many customers came in to read the menu and walked away The staff had plenty of upportunity to offer the Restaurant Week menu but instead they chose not to offer it. The restaurant was almost empty. The restaurant week menu was not offer to me also like other restaurants do. I also notice the same with other customers that came at the end of our service. Those menus were offer once you asked for them. I did not like that concept but the service, the food, the portions were excellent. I this this should be address to the owner. I will go again."

  • "Took my sister out to dinner for her birthday and from the moment we sat down to the moment we left everything was great. Delicious food, great wine list which lead to great convos. Can't wait to go back! The only negative thing was we sat in the tent which is technically outside patio and we were sitting right under the heat lamps which was hot at times but in general I will still and always go back because it was worth every bite."

  • "Four of us went to Il Panino on March 1st. Everything was great except for the fact that they sat us in what would be their outside seating in better weather. It was tented. The place was heated above the tables, but there was a tremendous cold draft below the effect of the above heaters. That's the only complaint. This was one of the better food places in the North End and we all agreed we would be back despite the cold draft. The staff was so friendly."

  • "The food was good, nothing special (other than the mozzarella, which was the best we ever had). The bread was a bit stale, the olive oil was fine. Both of our meals were fine, but again, nothing remarkable. Our waitress was very engaging and attentive. It was early when we arrived, and we were one of two parties in the dining area. The waitress remained generally attentive as the place filled up. On a side note, the shared rest room is literally in the kitchen, and the door is such that you almost fall into the salad prep area when exiting. Something about the proximity of the one to the other doesn’t do much for one’s appetite. (Maybe skip the salad!)"

  • "The food was AMAZING. I had the gnocchi which was like little clouds in my mouth and perfectly portioned. We started with a cheese plate that was also awesome. My only complaint was that the service was just so so and there were birds flying all over the place. Made you look twice before you touched anything (yes, it was indoors.)."

  • "Came on a date with my boyfriend. We were seated near the door and it was quite cold outside, but otherwise a great ambiance. It did take a while for a waiter to come over to us in the first place, but we had great service otherwise. And the food was fabulous. I'd definitely go back again."

  • "Food was absolutely delicious!! The only reason why I gave this a 4 was due to the service. My husband and I sat at our table for quite some time before anyone waited on us. Otherwise, the waiter was friendly and the food was delicious!"

  • "It was very cold in the restaurant, although we went in January. People had down jackets on inside. In the summer, the outdoor seating is a real highlight, though. My other feedback is that the waitress did not list all of the specials and when we overheard another waitress list them to the table behind us, we regretted not having ordered those items since they sounded so good."

  • "Have visited many restaurants in the North End and stopped in at Trattoria Panino at the recommendation of a sales person at a local boutique. It was fantastic. The mushroom stuffed raviolis are simply "to die for!" Make sure to order a side order of broccoli rabe."

  • "We truly enjoyed our meal here - the Mushroom Ravioli in the cream sauce...amazing! Husband had the steak and he could cut it with his butter knife. Big portions. Calamari was well cooked and a good starter to split. Server was helpful with suggestions (but we didn't get the specials told to the other tables). No liquor only beer and wine (beer selection is limited but works just fine and a good wine selection). We will definitely return and this should be a stop on everyone's list in the North End. Remember to make reservations. We sat in the "outside" area that is converted for winter. A bit hot / cold with the heaters on trying to regulate the temps but this will be a perfect spot for summer/fall dining al fresco."

  • "Been here many times and is always my go to place. I had the veal saltimboca and a caesar salad. Both were great. My friend had the patsta carbonara and finished it- was delicious and a large serving. They have a good wine list. As always i recommend strongly this trattoria."

  • "I used to frequent this place, but after my experience on Tuesday, will never return again. The food was bland, not to mention that it was prepared in a microwave...in plain sight of the patrons. At least they are not hiding the fact that their food is microwaved! This place is going downhill fast."

  • "Amazing dinner! The eggplant is a deep dish, not what we expected but amazing nonetheless. We couldn't decide on the mushroom or the rage so ordered both - also amazing. Paolo was entertaining and informative."

  • "The restaurant's cuisine was similar to food we ate while on the Amalfi coast in Italy, including a lovely tasty and non-acidic tomato sauce on the pasta dishes. The stuffed artichoke appetizer was delicious - especially the sauce! Thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The only negative was that we were there on a Friday evening in November and the wait staff seemed a little too eager to clear the plates after each course. I know they want to turn tables but the hovering of the staff could be turned down a notch."
