A word from Trattoria Grappolo
Trattoria Grappolo is a casual Italian bistro located in the wine-producing region of Santa Ynez, California (2 hours North of Los Angeles). Grappolo is the perfect place to enjoy with family and friends. Walk though the door and a savory aroma of freshly baked pizza and simmering tomato sauce teases the senses. The combination of the pastoral ambiance of Italy with the lush vine fields and oak-studded hills of Santa Ynez helps create the ideal setting to serve up some of Central California's most creative and authentic Italian dishes. Specialties include: Carpaccio, Rollino Veneto - rolled-up pizza pouches stuffed with smoked mozzarella and radicchio - handcrafted pastas and pizzas, aged New York steaks, rack of lamb, and fresh seafood dishes. Desserts such as lavender creme brulee and warm chocolate torte with espresso anglaise are a hit with guests. Trattoria Grappolo features an expansive wine list, and a large VIP wine cellar that accommodates 40 for private parties. Continued

  • "We had an excellent dinner here with another couple. We shared the carpaccio and stuffed calamari and had a variety of mains. Great wine list. Highly recommend."

  • "This restaurant is part of a small plaza which also features a bar/saloon. But do not be fooled by the location or initial appearance. The service and the food were excellent and of good value. If you enjoy a vibrant Italian local restaurant you will not be disappointed. The staff and our waiter in particular were friendly, attentive and clearly enjoyed their work."

  • "The food was very fresh and local and the chef even participated in the making special wine blends of local wines that bore a picture of the restaurant. We had a "Supertuscan" wine grown in Santa Ynez that was terrific. We would go back to the restaurant in a heartbeat!"

  • "Trattoria Grappolo was an outstanding dining experience overall. The wine list was extensive and I was amazed to find that they had Donnafugata, an Italian wine that I enjoyed while I lived in Italy years ago. We started with the Calamari alla Positano and it was as good as all the reviewers on Yelp have stated. For the main course, my wife and I had the Gnocchi al Gusto di Pollo and the Linguine ai Crostacei. We were sad to hear that the pasta wasn't made fresh at the restaurant, but it was good nonetheless. The gnocchi was pillowy and not too dense and the seafood in the Linguine was cooked perfectly. We finished our wonderful meal off with tiramisu and the most amazing pear tart (Pere alla Finanziera) that I've ever had."

  • "The management was kind enough to set a table for 11 of us. Service was relatively speedy, very competent and helpful, and the food quite speedily served, even though our group was large. They did a fancy little dessert for our one birthday girl, and gave us separate checks, as well. The food is quite good, and they have some unusual dishes you don't usually see at local Italian places."

  • "Great little dinner spot. Great food, service and quality. Good wine list and price. Small feel makes it intimate, but not so crowded you feel cramped. Great time!"

  • "Trattoria Grappolo is always wonderful: food, wine list, atmosphere, and the warm & friendly staff. Chef Leonardo continues to introduce delicious new foods and desserts. Grappolo is our favorite place to eat."

  • "Early seating at 5:15 is our preference because this Trattoria fills quickly. We were seated promptly and our waiters started presenting the fare. Olive oil and balsimic with fresh bread. We sipped a superb white and soon our food was on the table. Everything was delicious and the service was friendly and excellent. This is the reason we continue to visit Grappalo's."

  • "This italian restaurant in Santa Ynez has very good food. It was crowded, and we had to wait for our table though we had reservations. The service was slow, though our food came quickly once we ordered, then it took forever to get our check. Good place to go if you have the time."

  • "This was our first visit to Tratorria Grappolo. We had heard great things and were really looking forward to it. The food was excellent and lived up to the reputation. I had sea bass that was perfectly prepared. There were a couple of downsides however. First, the restaurant was VERY noisy -- and we were eating outside on the porch; it must have been even noisier inside. Second, our waiter was very abrupt, didn't take our full order before rushing off, not accommodating. Third, even though we were dining in wine country, our waiter informed us that Grappolo's offered only ONE type of Chardonnay wine by the glass -- and it wasn't that good. Hence the one person in our party who was drinking White had to order a bottle."

  • "Grappolo has been our favorite restaurant since it first opened. The atmosphere is relaxed but refined, the service is outstanding, and of course, so is the food. We've had almost every item on the menu and many specials, which vary. Everything is fresh, prepared in the kitchen behind a dining bar, so you can watch your meal being prepared. The staff is gracious and helpful and chef Leonardo keeps coming up with amazing new dishes. We love Trattoria Grappolo!"

  • "This is our second time dining...we tried it last time we were in the area and loved the food so we decided to return. We were not disappointed. Hubby had the penne with Italian sausage and I had the Linguini with shrimp/porcini mushrooms. The sauce was very tasty and the pasta was perfectly cooked. Bread is delicious. We split a Caprese salad and the portion was large. Next time we will ask for the dish served as is and get 2 plates. They charge you to split (but it does say that on the menu). We enjoyed a nice bottle of Foxen with our meal and the wine listings were extensive....and provided a good range in pricing. We will definitely return. Our server was attentive and friendly......Thank you for a very enjoyable evening."

  • "Grappolo is our restaurant of choice. Dishes are made from scratch, including pasta's , fresh vegetables, pizza dough is made while you watch if you are at the bar, toppers of your choice. All fresh and natural. Wonderful desserts. The service is impeccable, in a very relaxed, comfortable and friendly atmosphere. The menu has something for everyone. Have been dining there for many years and have never had a meal that was not delicious, from start to finish."

  • "We had a number of recommendations for this spot- from locals, and also people who had been there. I hope we hit it on an off night, as service, while friendly, and prompt, also tried to deliver the wrong salad to our table, and did not know who had ordered what. I had one of the specials of the night, and the pasta was chewy/not cooked properly- far from al dente! I think the rest of the party enjoyed their meals. No, I did not complain- not my style."

  • "Had dinner there. Excellent, though not traditional, Cesar salad. Wonderful pasta with white truffle oil. Went back for lunch the next day, but it was closed, despite the fact that their "Hour of Operation" posted indicated they would be open. Disappointed. Would drive an hour just to have dinner there again. Highly recommended, but call first to make sure they're going to be open."

  • "Needed to have pasta before race & found review for this gem. Had never been past the casino so also discovered Santa Ynez. The descriptions of the stuffed calamari were so intriguing, we had to go. WOW! This is the real deal. Service was excellent - very attentive & friendly. Great wine list, lots of specials not on the menu. But let's start with the calamari. We expected the typical calamari, just stuffed. Not even close! This was beautiful, a whole calamari stuffed and grilled, not chewy. So different and so delicious! Then we had stuffed ravioli with sage & butter sauce. It was a huge order so we split it. Great meal, excellent find. You can't go wrong with this place. Definitely a place we will recommend and return."

  • "We are the type of persons that need a good Italian meal, at least once a week. For appetizers we ordered the stuffed calamari and the eggplant parmigiano. The calamari was disappointing, too chewy and gooey. The eggplant was great. For mains we had the beef lasagna special and the linguini with shell fish. Both were excellent. We finished with a cappuccino and an espresso, they were exceptional, and they gratuitously provided some crunchy almond cookies. We enjoyed a half bottle of good Barolo with our meal. The waiter was attentive and very nice. Upon departure the chef thanked us for coming. A very nice touch."

  • "We came here, because it was my son's birthday. He absolutely thisnks the Linguine with the shell fish is the best he has ever had. He worked in an Italian restaurant, and Still says this is the best. Thanks to all of the staff for a great night."

  • "This is undoubetly the best restuarant in Santa Ynes. The entrees were good, they have a very good local wine list, and given that they were extremely busy, the service was pretty good."

  • "They were booked so we settled for a 5:30 seating. We had no problem with this because we heard so many good things about Grappolo. They sat us outside on the patio but it was chilly for my wife so we asked to be seated inside. You'd think we asked them to change the menu for the night-the stewardess had a bad attitude as she sat us inside the half empty dining room. The server arrived & was not welcoming at all, quite the contrary, rushed us for a drink/wine order. Food was just OK. It made all 4 of us wish we stayed at the Demetria winery and kept chatting with John the owner, who did make us feel welcome. My wife has lived in NYC and we live in Los Angeles, so we're used to the occasional chilly reception at restaurants. We avoid them."

  • "We've dined at Grappolo whenever we're in the area for at least 10 years, now. Most of the time, it's been for Sunday brunch, but when we are actually staying overnight in the environs of Santa Ynez, we show up here for dinner. It has, without exception, been a fun and tasty experience. The staff is over the top and the food is always excellent, featuring specials that change daily. While we say that this is a "very good neighborhood restaurant," we need to point out that it's much, much better than the fare you are normally served at a local eatery. It's just not in the ranks of Del Posto. You'll enjoy your meal at Grappolo and, when you visit, try the Calamari Alla Positano, calamari stuffed with smoked mozzarella and prosciutto"

  • "Trattoria Grappolo never dissapoints. They had a nice size menue and a large "specials of the day" to choose from. The prices are very fair. The owner made his way around to the talbles to greet everyone and to make sure their dinner was good. We were also given a complimentary appitzer (flat bread with chopped tomatoes etc.) The staff was very friendly and attentive and seemed to be glad to be there. The meal was delicious. I hightly recommend Trattoria Grappolo to anyone that like authenic Italian cuisine."

  • "Grappolos is very noisy and crowded but an interesting Italian Cowboy experience nest to the Maverick Saloon. Our gift certificate given to us for $100 was only loaded with $2.00...their mistake. It was corrected but embarrassing for us and the wait staff. Manager did rectify but I now feel reluctant to buy gift certificates there."

  • "We have eaten here a few times and each have been wonderful. Some of our favorites include the cioppino, pizza, caprese salad, fettuccine with bolognese sauce, sorbetto al limone and spumoni ice cream. We highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to our next visit!"

  • "I try hard on work travel to avoid chain restaurants, especially for dinners. This dinner MADE my trip. I had a hand made spinach tortelloni in butter sage sauce a garden salad and Creme Brule.... OMG, all of it was SO good! The salad made me miss the days when I lived in California and the produce is so fresh. Another thing that made it perfect for business travel is that I could sit at the bar, that overlooks a portion of the kitchen. It's always nice to sit somewhere like that when dining alone. I am adding this to my favorites in hopes of traveling to the region with my husband to take him there too. :) Don't miss it. The whole place was empty when i arrived right after opening, it was bustling when i left."

  • "This visit to the Trattoria was just like the others, DELIGHTFUL. We have a 40 minute drive to get here and look forward to each experience. A warm welcome, prompt seating at a table for two, immediate attention with the water, fresh bread and olive oil. A few minutes to decide in a relaxed atmosphere, ordered the chianti and the eggplant pizza. The combination was excellent and we again enjoyed a delicious hour at Grappolo's. Service was excellent as usual. We look forward to our next tasty visit. Completely satisfied in Santa Maria."

  • "First time to Grappolo this year, same menu but specials knocked it out of the park! Cioppino was excellent as usual and Sea Bass special was beyond good. Split an arugula anchovy salad and a bottle of Foxen Sangiovese. Dessert not necessary!"

  • "Restaurant week in Solvang was advertised to begin on 1/19 and Trattoria Grappola was listed as a participant. When we arrived, they said it was lunch only which was disappointing and definitely not as advertised. The second disappointment was the food - it was just fair and all four of us failed to finish our dinner. We ordered the bruschetta and it came out as a small pizza with just chopped tomatoes on top. It was soggy and really had no flavor. I ordered the shrimp risotto and it was very okay but really heavy."
