A word from Trattoria Grappolo
Trattoria Grappolo is a casual Italian bistro located in the wine-producing region of Santa Ynez, California (2 hours North of Los Angeles). Grappolo is the perfect place to enjoy with family and friends. Walk though the door and a savory aroma of freshly baked pizza and simmering tomato sauce teases the senses. The combination of the pastoral ambiance of Italy with the lush vine fields and oak-studded hills of Santa Ynez helps create the ideal setting to serve up some of Central California's most creative and authentic Italian dishes. Specialties include: Carpaccio, Rollino Veneto - rolled-up pizza pouches stuffed with smoked mozzarella and radicchio - handcrafted pastas and pizzas, aged New York steaks, rack of lamb, and fresh seafood dishes. Desserts such as lavender creme brulee and warm chocolate torte with espresso anglaise are a hit with guests. Trattoria Grappolo features an expansive wine list, and a large VIP wine cellar that accommodates 40 for private parties. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We have eaten at this place 3+ times. After driving for 5 hours was looking forward to a roasted chicken & pasta dinner. Table that I made reservations for was not steady & slanted. After ordering, chicken was very dry and hard as if it was left too long under hearing lamps. When requested for a new one, was told all the chickens where cooked the same way & no reason to get the same thing. Just get something else. My past was light in the sause as well. Maybe a very bad night or a new chef.? No help was given. Disappointing. Left hungry but may try again next year."

  • "Amazing as Always! We have been dinning at Grapoplo's since we moved to the Valley in 2001. The serve is always professional but warm. The food is outstanding. The ambiance is elegant but comfortable. I noticed servers that have worked at Grapolos since I started dinning there. That is a sign they take good care of their staff and in return their staff take great care of their customers."

  • "Dinner with parents...they raised their eyebrows from the appearance out front. Once seated and the wine arrived, everything was GREAT! Great service, GREAT FOOD (Eggplant special), and a nice breeze coming thru the patio area. This IS a great find...I will say no more (I want to be able to get a table the next time I am in Santa Ynez!)"

  • "Great food and great service. We were in town celebrating my mom's birthday and the our waiter was very attentive and sweet to our mom. We noticed that the wait staff and chef knew a lot of guest coming in to dine. It was like the tv show "Cheers". The atmosphere was warm, inviting and friendly. The hostess was gracious and lovely. It was our first time here and everyone made us feel like we were regulars. Next time we are in Santa Ynez we will definitley return to Trattoria Grappolo."

  • "Wine cost was too high. Hostess was not very friendly and seemed unorganized. Waiter and bus service was very good. Inside seating seemed romantic but we sat outdoors and it seemed dirty."

  • "We enjoyed our meal of stuffed calamari & veal piccata. There was a good selection of wine too!"

  • "Nothing fresh or flavorful. Pork chop Milanese was deep fried. All dishes lacked flavor. Nice service. Bad food. Cheap atmosphere."

  • "We celebrated my wife's birthday here and the staff ere great. The stuffed calamari appetizer is unique and amazing. We will be back soon."

  • "Not only was the food superb but they play classic jazz."

  • "I have dined at Grappolo's several times, and always found the food and service lovely, even though a bit noisy. This last time, I met business friends from far away to experience the food, and it was way below par! The Gonococci dish tasted and looked like they opened a can of tomato sauce and poured it over the dumplings and the Shrimp with Roasted Leeks special was SO over oily, I could hardly eat it. It was dripping. Maybe a bad day? I have always been for dinner, this was my first lunch. Maybe the good chef only works at night?"

  • "Wonderful Italian cuisine. Energetic high noise level. It is quieter out on the porch if you want an intimate conversation. "

  • "Great stop on our way from LAX to Santa Barbara. Food and service was excellent and a great beginning to our vacation. Pizza and pasta were real Italian style. Would have loved to stop by again. Will definitely visit upon a return trip. "

  • "We loved the excellent food, pricing, and service. It was a really loud space, lots of hard surfaces reflecting the sound. Tightly packed tables. Made for an intimate dining experience just a little challenging. Great place for fine dining after a day wine tasting at the vineyards."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the Santa Ynez Valley. It was my friends first time and she was very impressed. The food is consistently wonderful and the portions are just the right size. Everyone who comes to the Santa Ynez Valley, should make sure that they try this place for lunch or dinner. They will not be disappointed."

  • "We love Trattoria Grappolo and never miss the chance to go there when we are visiting the Santa Ynez valley. We recommend it highly to everyone headed that way!! "

  • "The food was good; however, the service could have been better. The waitress could have been a bit more attentive."

  • "The food was very good and the service was fine (not overly attentive - we had to ask several times for parmesan cheese). The restaurant is very noisy, so not a good place for conversation. Tables are vary close together which make it feel cramped. Wait staff has trouble moving in and out. If you go don't let them stick you in the corner by the bar. The air-conditioning is so cold you need a jacket and you are up against the bar stools. All in all it is a nice neighborhood restaurant, with really good food, and worth a few inconveniences. The outside patio is the best place to sit."

  • "We go to this restaurant regularly and the food is always very good, clean traditional Italian cooking, not fancy but good ingredients and well prepared. Usually, the service is very good, but this last occasion was Mothers' Day and while the restaurant wasn't really any more crowded than usual, but we had a server who apparently was new to the job so on this occasion, the service wasn't very attentive."

  • "This place not only has incredible food, it is a wonderful place to go. All of the staff are very friendly and want to make sure you are having a good time. We go for special occasions & it is special every time we go. I reccomend Trattoria Grappolo often."

  • "The food was excellent however the service was subpar. The server made us feel like we we're a inconvience. Also the restaurant allowed walking vendors to come through the restaurant selling flowers and strawberries. Which lowered the ambiance of the reauaurant"

  • "Arrived 5 PM on Monday night. Promptly seated in quiet area. Noise level not offensive. Initial service slow but pleasant. Good food suggestions. Chicken was outstanding. Good dessert. Anxious to return "

  • "We now make it a point to eat at Grappolo when we are in town. The eggplant was to die for yummy....and hubby had sausage plate with cannellini beans. The liked the sausage but beans needed more seasoning...he loved my eggplant. We each had a salad and it was very good...my only recommendation would be that owner really paid special attn to locals and not so much to us. He wasn't overly friendly...put our dishes down and walked away without asking if we needed cheese or peppers (which we had to flag someone down to get). We will still return...we loved the food but a little TLC on the service would be very helpful."

  • "While the atmosphere of this restaurant is very charming and the service very attentive, we were very disappointed in the quality of the food. I was served unopened clams and mussels in the seafood linguine, and could not understand how the chef could plate a dish with inedible seafood."

  • "Two of us dined at Trattoria Grappolo on May 3. We had reservations for 6:45 but they were not ready to seat our party until 7:10. A 25 minute wait is disappointing when you have reservations. The food is decent but overpriced. One diner ate a NY Strip that was cooked perfectly but all of the sides were cold. The other diner had a seafood pasta and all of the seafood was overcooked (very chewy). The food obviously sat under heat lamps for a while. Wine selection is good. Service was mediocre. Aside from the slow sitting, our server did not tell us any specials until we asked. The server rarely came back to check in--food runners were efficient and compensatory. We will neither return to nor recommend Trattoria Grappolo."

  • "We enjoy Trattoria Grappolo often. The drive from Santa Maria to Santa Yenez takes about 40 minutes. Parking and access is always convienient. Our last visit porvided the same excellent food, service and ambience that we have enjoyed with previous visits. The varied menu and wine selections produce great taste experiences every time. We look forward to our next visit."

  • "We had an excellent dinner here with another couple. We shared the carpaccio and stuffed calamari and had a variety of mains. Great wine list. Highly recommend."

  • "This restaurant is part of a small plaza which also features a bar/saloon. But do not be fooled by the location or initial appearance. The service and the food were excellent and of good value. If you enjoy a vibrant Italian local restaurant you will not be disappointed. The staff and our waiter in particular were friendly, attentive and clearly enjoyed their work."
