A word from Trattoria Dell'Arte
Across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell’Arte features the largest antipasto bar in New York, a sprawling selection of seafood and vegetable specialties perfect for parties of all sizes. Designed after a Tuscan artist’s studio, the rooms include half-finished paintings, oversized sculptures of fragmented body parts, a gallery of Italian noses, a wine cellar dining room, and candle-filled private rooms.

The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.

Great meal. The antipasto is wonderful and diverse and the veal parmisean is a must. It literally hangs over the plate. We will be back next time we are in NYC.

Our ravioli entre was a rich dish as expected but the tapas selection was poor. I have been to this restaurant a few times as it is close to Carnegie hall but I wouldn't get the tapas again. Also it is imperlative to arrive around 6:00 or the noise level is very loud!

A warm friendly welcome was a nice way to start our night making us feel like regulars. The menu offered enough choices though customizing things like regular rice for risotto didn't seem to be possible. Food was 'B' and server was too. I would definitely return. Location is conveinent and close to the theater.

My wife and I could barely hear each other at a table for 2 in the middle of the dining area. While the service was very attentive, the waiter pushed the specials (both entrees and desserts). We selected the specials without asking the prices - which is our fault. We always expect specials to be at a premium, but they turned out to be at least 40% more than comparable dishes on the regular menu that we would have ordered. ($55 vs $30-25). Finally, my wife was looking forward to a particular dessert she had enjoyed on a previous visit. They don't have a dessert menu. Instead, the waiter brings out a tray with samples of what's available. For some reason, he didn't bring the tray, but just told us what he had. He omitted the item my wife was looking forward to, which she later saw presented to a nearby table.

Somehow this place managed to bring out food 2 minutes after we ordered....AND it was cold! Service was okay, ambience was blah. Prices are insane. $18 for a side of cold brussel sprouts served in a 1" deep dish the size of a CD. If you're going to a show across the street, find another place to go. AVOID.

Have loved this place for years but it let me down this trip. Usual warm greeting, but our table was next to a serving station and kitchen entrance. The beet salad was as good as ever but was a much smaller portion than usual. The veal Marsala was tough and gristly. I should have complained about the salad portion...and ordered the pizza, which is always fabulous.

My family and I booked a last minute reservation here and were welcomed with open arms and a huge welcome as we entered. Although the menu prices were a bit high, its normal for that touristy part of town. The Pesto Ravioli was delicious and so was the Anti Pasta Bar! This restaurant had an energetic feel and something on the menu for everyone. Would definitely go back for dinner!

Food was just OK (the seafood pasta was barely OK). We were just unfortunate in our server who lost interest very quickly when he used the wrong language to greet us after hearing where we stayed. Having eaten in trattoria dell'Arte before it is usually better - especially at the bar.

Trattoria is stuck in time. Everything but the prices! Foood was uneven: fried artichokes were good, but the potato gratin was boring, the pesto ravioli was a whole lot of pesto over bland pasta. The ambiance continues to be amusing albeit kitsch and the staff is welcoming and friendly. With so many other choices in NY, there is no need to come back to Trattoria.

After several years, Trattoria Dell'Arte still remains one of my favorite lunch spots in New York City. From the welcoming prosciutto and cheese biscuit, to the warm homemade cookies offered right off of the baking sheet, we felt most appreciated. The menu consists of several delicious offerings for those who want a "light" meal and those preferring Italian favorites. A gem of a restaurant!

I have been to Trattoria Dell'Arte twice. Both times did not disappoint. Service and food are consistently very good. Many people underrate consistency. Food was excellent both times and my guests seem to enjoy the fare. That is a testament as one is 100% Italian. Service is excellent. Very friendly and engaging but not overly bothersome. My water glass was never empty. Sounds like a small thing, but big in my book when it comes to service. Mangia!

Staff treated us very well and we felt welcome. Food is good, but not great and severely over-priced for the quality. Tables are packed together like sardines and they literally have to move the table so you can get into your seat. For the price, you may want to check out some other nearby resturants.

I've walked by this restaurant for years, figuring that it must be a tourist trap with sub-par food given its location. I am delighted to say I've been very wrong and have been missing out! It's quite lively, the food excellent, service unparalleled. They will begin by asking if you have a curtain to make and then not make you feel rushed at all - timing everything perfectly. Sit upstairs for a little more quiet.

But the overall best thing about this restaurant is the people who work there. From the moment we walked in the door and until we left EVERY single person made our experience the best ! Thank you.

We've eaten at Trattoria Dell'Arte many times, but last Saturday night the place was so busy & the service was terrible. We had a 6:00 pm reservation & were seated immediately. However, we didn't see our waiter until 6:20. We told him that we had an 8:00 pm show. There too few waiters for the number of people in the restaurant. The marathon was the next day. The restaurant should have anticipated these crowds. I had pappardelle with eggplant parmesan. What I got was pappardelle with tomato sauce & a few bits of eggplant mixed in. My husband & I shared a caprese salad, which was sliced cherry tomatoes & onions with shaved cheese on top - all very disappointing! We won't return. There are many other good restaurants in this great city.

They certainly know how to get you in and out in time for your Broadway show or Carnegie Hall concert. And there's definitely a madcap energy coursing through the place from the moment you arrive to the end of the meal. It's festive and a real show. Having said that, the food is fine, but nothing special. And it's an expensive proposition. When Trattoria del Arte first opened, it was always a treat to start off with the mixed antipasti from their enormous selection. We shared one order as an appetizer, and were disappointed. It wasn't bad - it just wasn't worth $22 (I think) for the relatively small portion of 3 different vegetables. The cod and pizza as main courses were OK. If you want pizza, try Marta or Otto. No great desire to return.

We were attending a program at Carnegie Hall and specifically looked for a restaurant nearby. This came up on our search, and we decided to try it. It was amazing! The food was delicious, the service impeccable, and although we arrived 15 minutes late, we were still able to enjoy our 3-course dinner and arrive at Carnegie Hall in time for the show. Portions are a bit small, and my husband was surprised that his veal marsala did not come with a side, but the food was excellent. This place is a bit pricey, but it was worth it! It's a great "special occasion" place, and we'll be back again.
