A word from Trattoria Dell'Arte
Across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell’Arte features the largest antipasto bar in New York, a sprawling selection of seafood and vegetable specialties perfect for parties of all sizes. Designed after a Tuscan artist’s studio, the rooms include half-finished paintings, oversized sculptures of fragmented body parts, a gallery of Italian noses, a wine cellar dining room, and candle-filled private rooms.

The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.

Diner Reviews
  • "A last minute reservation and we were able to be seated on a fairly busy night. The Matre D was lovely - welcomed us and made us feel like we were honored guests. Food was great - pasta, salad, late night pizza and a lovely bottle of wine. Busy neighborhood restaurant near Carnegie Hall - a bit on the loud side - lots of people celebrating and having great conversation. Would prefer a little more quite atmosphere."

  • "Great find for pre-theater. The food was good and the service was friendly and they were very attentive to our need to get out to the theater."

  • "While making plans for our Anniversary trip, wedecided on Trattoria Dell'Arte based on neighborhood and a picture of one of their dishes online. It did not disappoint! It was even better than we expected it to be as well as a pasta recommended by our waitress. They brought us a glass of champagne to help celebrate. It was such a great touch! After dinner we decided against dessert because we were insanely full but our waitress brought us a little treat and another glass of champagne. It was the perfect evening."

  • "The food was good but overpriced for the quality. You are paying for the location in the theater district."

  • "Great food and service which you expect considering the prices."

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte is conveniently located across the street from Carnegie Hall, but is easily a destination restaurant itself. The food is authentic and fabulous, and atmosphere is casually elegant. We loved dining at the bar with three "regulars": a couple who dined there every Sunday night and a Long Islander on a business trip who has been dining there for almost 20 years! I would definitely suggest the antipasto bar as a starter or a meal if you would like something on the lighter side. The chicken parm, pizzas and pasta are all amazing! You simply can't go wrong!"

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte has a great location for Carnegie Hall and is one block away from the Time Warner Center theaters. It's been in that location a long time. The food is not exciting, but good for pre-theatre dining. The service is very warm and efficient. There are large tables for groups, and a big selection of appetizer plates and entrees."

  • "Absolutely delicious special with seafood, especially nice in the summer."

  • "On Saturday night, I was seated promptly in a lovely booth in the quiet back room. The service was attentive without being obsequious and the food was uniformly excellent. Based on that experience I came back again on Wednesday -- it was like going to 2 completely different restaurants. On Wednesday, the place was a madhouse. Although we asked to be seated at a quiet table, the noise level was deafening. The service was careless; we had to remind our waitress several times about everything. The bread was rock hard and, when we sent it back, it took twenty minutes and 3 separate reminders before they brought us "fresh" bread (the rock hard slices were at the bottom of the basket). The food arrived cold and was absolutely awful."

  • "I chose this restaurant after several hours of reading review after review after review. I had never been there nor had I heard of it. I was taking a leap of faith. After having dined there, I can honestly say that it is one of, if not, my favorite restaurants ever! They did everything I asked in the comments section (fast meals to get to our show and a great rendition of happy birthday) and made my girlfriend and I feel comfortable. Our server, Joe, was terrific. He was funny, affable, gregarious, magnanimous, loquacious and a pleasure. He should be made manager or head host."

  • "Periodically visited this place over the last 15 years, and always enjoyed the food. No longer, mediocre at best, even their usually fine antipasto. Filled with tourists, and apparently cooking for them, with little attention to quality of ingredients, flavor and technique. Not awful, not as good as they have been."

  • "We were greeted by a friendly gentleman, who confirmed our reservation and seated us. Unfortunately, the service was downhill from there. We were greeted by a server, who seemed aloof. He never asked if we wanted a starter, never shared the specials. We asked about one thing on the menu, and he said they didn't have it that day. He never asked if our good was okay, never checked on us, never suggested dessert or coffee. He was cold and distant. I actually felt his 18 percent tip was undeserved, but I always tip. The food was great, but I will not go back."

  • "We were in NYC last weekend and went to Trattoria Dell'Arte for dinner Saturday night. Our waiter was outstanding and the food was excellent. The only negative part was when we were at the bar and I ordered a Cosmo and asked for a a glass of ice on the side. There was a little bit of my drink left in the shaker and the Bartendar promptly poured it in a small glass and gave it to 2 girls he was flirting with. I thought that was in bad taste. My girlfriend had gotten there first and did the same thing and the other bartender graciously gave her the extra. Fortunately our waiter and food made up for it!"

  • "We picked items from the menu -- and for two of those we selected, the waiter later told us one wasn't available and the other "the chef is doing it differently today." wish he had mentioned it before we had ordered."

  • "The unique Italian fare, from the appetizer bar to the dependable main courses make this a great restaurant. Through in great wine and desserts make a terrific dining experience."

  • "The experience was a festive one. Much credit goes to our waiter, smart, charming and patient, especially responding to the different tastes of seven diners. We don't have an opportunity to visit the restaurant as frequently as we would like, but each time that we have it has never disappointed. You have an excellent wait staff. It was a pleasure."

  • "It's been quite some time since I have dined here, and once again I give highest marks to Trattoria Dell' Arte. I'm always amazed by the experience, from the warm welcome to a meal which is simply one of the best restaurants in town. Excellent service. The lobster pappardelle is amazing. The thousand-layer lasagna is outstanding! And Limoncello pie with a creme brûlée top was out of this world good! Even the pot of coffee was just delicious! This is not inexpensive--but its well worth the splurge. Great for a pre-show dinner or a birthday/special occasion meal. I can't wait to visit again. Thank you Trattoria Dell' Arte!!!"

  • "Grossly overpriced for mediocre food. Outrageous pricing on specials wit no warning. $47 for 2 soft shell crabs. Extremely noisy. Overly warm greetings with handshakes. Fit for suckers. Ordered calves liver which came diced and tasteless. Would never return"

  • "Had a 7:45 pm reservation on a Friday night. My sister and I were treated like valued friends, and seated in a quiet booth for 4 under the "big lips." We chose all vegetarian items. The food was fantastic! Don't miss the eggplant caponata, and the roasted cauliflower pizza. Treat yourself to a couple of cocktails, too. They know how to make a perfect Manhattan."

  • "We went for a special night out before our Broadway show. We were on our honeymoon and the server was one of the best servers I have ever encountered. She brought us many free things as a celebration of our wedding and was attentive, friendly and always smiling. Truly what service should be. The food was unbelievably delicious and reasonably priced. Would go back in a heartbeat and recommend to anyone going to New York."

  • "The Trattoria dell"Arte is a long standing asset just below Central Park on 7th Ave. The owners also own Fiorello's, across from the Met Opera, and the two restaurants have some similarities in their atmosphere and menu. The service is fine; the food is good, but not great, and it's generally enjoyable. But it is noisy. Two or three times here, and you'll become a regular. The people are very friendly."

  • "Last minute Father's Day pick for 4. Very accommodating maître d and attentive wait staff. Patient and engaging with the kids. Good standard food. Father's Day tie cookies a big hit! A tad pricey but it's midtown and plenty of space between tables."
