A word from Trattoria Dell'Arte
Across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell’Arte features the largest antipasto bar in New York, a sprawling selection of seafood and vegetable specialties perfect for parties of all sizes. Designed after a Tuscan artist’s studio, the rooms include half-finished paintings, oversized sculptures of fragmented body parts, a gallery of Italian noses, a wine cellar dining room, and candle-filled private rooms.

The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.

Diner Reviews
  • "We expected a more adult atmosphere where the ambiance and setting would be more quiet and peaceful. Instead it was very loud, crowded and not to our liking. The food was ok, but nothing to write home about."

  • "Our group loved Trattoria Dell'Arte! We had a lovely welcome compete with complimentary champagne. They were most accommodating with respect to our seating preference. The service was outstanding and all of the food was delicious! Plus they got us in and out in time to make it to the theater. We would definitely go back and recommendation it to our friends."

  • "Surprising only becausse the restaurant is across the street from Carnegie Hall, so there are lots of tourists, which can have a negative effect. But here, we had a long, leisurely, late lunch, trying lots of antipasti. Each was wonderful -special kudos on the mushrooms! I also has continuous hours, which is great if you want to eat a late lunch, or a late dinner. Highly recommended."

  • "Went for pre=theatre lunch on a Saturday in August. The place was noticeably not as crowded or noisy as I expected. Two small salads and splitting a pizza was perfect for the two of us. Desserts looked great, but we didn't have room. Ten-minute walk to our theater matinee. Would certainly go back."

  • "First Class Service. Casual, but elegant and lively ambiance. Carbonara (with pancetta and a fried egg on top) is truly exceptional as is the Escalope Milanese. Can't wait to work through more of the menu on future visits to the City. Add great company and it's a perfect night."

  • "The food no doubt was excellent but just wasn't worth the cost...I understand the location but $39 for 3 small veal scaloppini a la carte?"

  • "Great food, service and ambiance. Desserts were large portions and delicious."

  • "I took my nieces out to dinner and had a great time. The restaurant was busy, but not too noisy, and the service excellent. The food was very good. We all enjoyed our meals."

  • "We always visit when we are in New York City and, often, more than once!"

  • "I live about a block away, have been coming here for years and I have never had a bad experience. The pasta is always delicious and the 101 layer lasagna and chicken parmigana are a must for any first-timers. The service is also especially friendly and attentive."

  • "Honestly I didn't find anything special about this place. It's an avarage level on everything, food, wine, service and price."

  • "Superb service from arrival to departure. Expensive, but typically NYC in this area"

  • "After a 6 hour drive into NYC, this restaurant was our favorite of the whole weekend. Food was great and the service was incredible. The waiter was happy to accommodate our kids (who only like penne in butter sauce) and was very fun and pleasant. Would definitely go back."

  • "The welcome we get when we walk in the door is enough reason to go back -- everyone makes you feel as though you are someone. The food is excellent. Our server went out of his way, and in a polite way, to tell us that the selections we made might be too much food for just two. That alone is unusual. Very friendly and very professional."

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte continues to provide an outstanding dining experience. The food is great, the staff knowledgeable, the environment friendly and General Manager Brandon makes you feel like family. There is a reason it's been around for decades. Enjoy!"

  • "Greatest Antipasto in the town! There are a lot to choose from and you can't really make bad choices. And I thought that could replace the meal!"

  • "The service and food is always great at this resturant, this last dinner I have probably the best soft shell crabs evern the home made pasta is 2nd to none, and the staff is always friendly and attentive!"

  • "The place is always packed so conversation is difficult. Very, very noisy. Food is good and dependable, but not out of the ordinary. If going to Carnegie Hall, it's a good choice, but there are many better and more reasonable Italian restaurants in the area and the City."

  • "I think their selection of appetizers has gotten smaller. Although it had fried baby artichokes (judaica), it was somewhat disappointing. other appetizers, pizza and veal Milanese, however, were good. Getting very pricey - $200 for that (veal - $50)"

  • "Joe was incredibly entertaining and a great server. His recommendations were on point and the food was delicious. We had the Risotto and Haddock, which they split on our plates before bringing it to us. The cannoli is the stuff dreams are made of. I highly recommend"

  • "I've eaten here many times over many years. It used to be sensational, then merely very good, but lately, the past three years, it's been mediocre in every way, especially the attitude of the maitre d'. Reservations were not honored, and it was a mess. VOILA !!!!! New maitre d', new wait staff, and I don't know what's going on in the kitchen, but the food was terrific. This maitre d', whose name I do not know but he is a well dressed handsome man, perhaps 5' 7", dark hair, could not have been nicer or more accomodating, and our wait person was the best, a young lady not only capable but with a great sense of humor. They are now back on my A list, and I only live a half block away, so I will be in there frequently."

  • "Love coming here because of the depth of the menu selections. My party had four different entrees all of which were excellent. Waiter was very helpful on a chianti selection which was excellent and his familiarity with the menu"

  • "We added a note in our reservation that we were celebrating a 25th and 35th wedding anniversary so we asked for a quiet part of the restaurant. There were 8 of us. They have a private wine tasting room that was not reserved that night so we were able to have our celebration in there. It was fabulous. Whenever we visit NY we make a point of going to Trattoria dell Arte because the service is unmatched and the entire experience is never disappointing."

  • "By far the best eggplant parmesan I have ever had. I always get this when I eat out Italian because it's so hard to make. Trattoria's version was light and and melted in my mouth'"

  • "Went the night before and sat at the bar for a light meal with a girlfriend. The man next to us ( a stranger) insisted on giving us a piece of his pizza. It was so good that we decided to bring our other friends the next night. Service was great."

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte is in the heart of mid-Manhattan on 7th Avenue between 56th and 57th Streets. When we were there there seemed to be a lot of energy and bustle around the restaurant. The staff was very friendly. The food is very good. They make their own pasta. There were four of us and we each ordered something different and no one left anything on their plates. We were able to get in and out in an hour as we didn't order dessert or coffee afterwards and had plenty of time to make our show as Times Square is only a few blocks away. This was our second time at the restaurant and I have been very pleased with it."
