A word from Trattoria Dell'Arte
Across from Carnegie Hall, Trattoria Dell’Arte features the largest antipasto bar in New York, a sprawling selection of seafood and vegetable specialties perfect for parties of all sizes. Designed after a Tuscan artist’s studio, the rooms include half-finished paintings, oversized sculptures of fragmented body parts, a gallery of Italian noses, a wine cellar dining room, and candle-filled private rooms.

The menu focuses on northern Italian specialties such as the steak Florentine, double veal chop, seafood specialties of the Mediterranean, and unforgettable desserts.

Diner Reviews
  • "Our family was in NYC for a long weekend. Trattoria has always been one of our favorite spots when we come into town. Our family of 5 ordered a bottle of wine, appetizers and dinner. The wine and appetizers came out in a timely fashion. Our dinner arrived approximately 55 minutes after our appetizers. Tables all around were being served their meal that had ordered after us. We were told the kitchen was backed up, our dinner would be right out. The food was good, not great as we had come to enjoy in previous years. When your tab is over $300, you come to expect better service."

  • "Hmmm.. Well, my girlfriend raved about the place and we were looking for a somewhat spontaneous and delicious meal. Unfortunately, the one thing that my gf had so wanted was not on the menu anymore. It was a dish that was always raved about, so unsure why it was off menu. Our waiter offered to see if the kitchen could make it, but returned saying they didn't have the ingredients. Beyond that, our waiter seemed completely distracted the entire night. Slow and inattentive, it was disappointing. At one point, even though they seemed to have plenty of staff, he was seen carrying two bussing bins I'm not a demanding patron, but when we were finished, I had to get up and ask someone to find him, but that just wasn't what I would have expected."

  • "Great food & wonderful service!!! I chose this place online and made reservations. I was nervous because my husband is a type-a perfectionist and has high standards. He (we) loved it!!! My husband had the soft shell crab (seasonal) and I had seafood risotto., and cannoli for dessert. The cannoli was the best I've ever had. We will come back next time we are in NYC! It was absolutely perfect."

  • "The service was outstanding and attentive without rushing us. Location near central park just south of upper west side. The menu was largely poultry, fish, and pork but had decent vegetarian food, and we had the homemade mozzarella capri salad which was the best mozz I have ever eaten. Problem was that the prices were NY prices--meaning, about 40% higher than they needed to be. But then again, so are the plays, the transportation, etc. The dessert, tartuffo, was also great. Had a vegetarian pasta dish which was very good, and a friend had chicken which smelled good (I didn't try because I am more or less vegy. Wish it was cheaper, but dinner was great and would go back"

  • "Wait staff was very attentive. Great selections on the menu. Looks like everyone in NYC is offering Hen in the Woods mushrooms right now. Outside dining is a plus."

  • "I keep coming back for the antipasto and it never disappoints. One issue that i hadn't noticed before: No pizza during the dinner hour ? Seems like at these prices you could figure out how to do pizza and still get the theater crowd out on time. See you again soon !"

  • "This is my 3rd and possibly 4th time at this restaurant for personal and professional occassions. I have been greeted, every time, with enthusiasm, and made to feel very welcome. This last visit my colleagues and I were greeted by Richard who was warm and friendly, and Marco our waiter was incredibly patient as my colleagues and I had not seen each other in so long we had lots to catch up on. Marco was gracious, gave us our space, and suggested some pre dinner yummies while we continued our "lively" conversation, Our meals were outstanding. Thank you Trattoria Dell'Arte for another wonderful evening!! We will be back."

  • "We dined here for dinner after a Wednesday matinee. When we arrived at around 4:45, the place was understandably very empty. We wanted to have a drink at the bar before heading to our table. We were greeted warmly at the entrance by the staff and directed to the bar. When we were ready, the maitre'd was very eager to show us to our table and welcome us. We enjoyed our meal. The service was excellent! We would return again in the future."

  • "I had been to this restaurant several years ago and I though the food was great and the atmosphere was happening. But its lost something. The food was uninspired. The pizza was actually bad - yucky crust, sparse toppings. We didn't come close to finishing the dishes - but no one wanted a take- home bag - not even the just-graduated-college kid on a budget. Its a big restaurant by NYC standards and more than half the tables were empty, which makes it feel a little sad. The one good thing was the service. Excellent waitstaff- seemed like a great cast of actors working with a script they know is poorly written."

  • "A last minute reservation and we were able to be seated on a fairly busy night. The Matre D was lovely - welcomed us and made us feel like we were honored guests. Food was great - pasta, salad, late night pizza and a lovely bottle of wine. Busy neighborhood restaurant near Carnegie Hall - a bit on the loud side - lots of people celebrating and having great conversation. Would prefer a little more quite atmosphere."

  • "While making plans for our Anniversary trip, wedecided on Trattoria Dell'Arte based on neighborhood and a picture of one of their dishes online. It did not disappoint! It was even better than we expected it to be as well as a pasta recommended by our waitress. They brought us a glass of champagne to help celebrate. It was such a great touch! After dinner we decided against dessert because we were insanely full but our waitress brought us a little treat and another glass of champagne. It was the perfect evening."

  • "The food was good but overpriced for the quality. You are paying for the location in the theater district."

  • "Fabulous food, 4 of us shared a selection of antipasti, mushrooms, squid, caprese salad and artichokes. All good but mushrooms were outstandingly wonderful. Two soft shell crab entrees, one veal chop and the lobster linguine made us 4 happy diners. Dessert was a meringue something that was brought out for my birthday. It was delicious as well This is our go-to when visiting NY, has been for over 20 years. We always feel welcome and at home!"

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte is conveniently located across the street from Carnegie Hall, but is easily a destination restaurant itself. The food is authentic and fabulous, and atmosphere is casually elegant. We loved dining at the bar with three "regulars": a couple who dined there every Sunday night and a Long Islander on a business trip who has been dining there for almost 20 years! I would definitely suggest the antipasto bar as a starter or a meal if you would like something on the lighter side. The chicken parm, pizzas and pasta are all amazing! You simply can't go wrong!"

  • "Trattoria Dell'Arte has a great location for Carnegie Hall and is one block away from the Time Warner Center theaters. It's been in that location a long time. The food is not exciting, but good for pre-theatre dining. The service is very warm and efficient. There are large tables for groups, and a big selection of appetizer plates and entrees."

  • "On Saturday night, I was seated promptly in a lovely booth in the quiet back room. The service was attentive without being obsequious and the food was uniformly excellent. Based on that experience I came back again on Wednesday -- it was like going to 2 completely different restaurants. On Wednesday, the place was a madhouse. Although we asked to be seated at a quiet table, the noise level was deafening. The service was careless; we had to remind our waitress several times about everything. The bread was rock hard and, when we sent it back, it took twenty minutes and 3 separate reminders before they brought us "fresh" bread (the rock hard slices were at the bottom of the basket). The food arrived cold and was absolutely awful."

  • "I chose this restaurant after several hours of reading review after review after review. I had never been there nor had I heard of it. I was taking a leap of faith. After having dined there, I can honestly say that it is one of, if not, my favorite restaurants ever! They did everything I asked in the comments section (fast meals to get to our show and a great rendition of happy birthday) and made my girlfriend and I feel comfortable. Our server, Joe, was terrific. He was funny, affable, gregarious, magnanimous, loquacious and a pleasure. He should be made manager or head host."

  • "Periodically visited this place over the last 15 years, and always enjoyed the food. No longer, mediocre at best, even their usually fine antipasto. Filled with tourists, and apparently cooking for them, with little attention to quality of ingredients, flavor and technique. Not awful, not as good as they have been."

  • "We were greeted by a friendly gentleman, who confirmed our reservation and seated us. Unfortunately, the service was downhill from there. We were greeted by a server, who seemed aloof. He never asked if we wanted a starter, never shared the specials. We asked about one thing on the menu, and he said they didn't have it that day. He never asked if our good was okay, never checked on us, never suggested dessert or coffee. He was cold and distant. I actually felt his 18 percent tip was undeserved, but I always tip. The food was great, but I will not go back."

  • "We were in NYC last weekend and went to Trattoria Dell'Arte for dinner Saturday night. Our waiter was outstanding and the food was excellent. The only negative part was when we were at the bar and I ordered a Cosmo and asked for a a glass of ice on the side. There was a little bit of my drink left in the shaker and the Bartendar promptly poured it in a small glass and gave it to 2 girls he was flirting with. I thought that was in bad taste. My girlfriend had gotten there first and did the same thing and the other bartender graciously gave her the extra. Fortunately our waiter and food made up for it!"

  • "The unique Italian fare, from the appetizer bar to the dependable main courses make this a great restaurant. Through in great wine and desserts make a terrific dining experience."

  • "The experience was a festive one. Much credit goes to our waiter, smart, charming and patient, especially responding to the different tastes of seven diners. We don't have an opportunity to visit the restaurant as frequently as we would like, but each time that we have it has never disappointed. You have an excellent wait staff. It was a pleasure."

  • "It's been quite some time since I have dined here, and once again I give highest marks to Trattoria Dell' Arte. I'm always amazed by the experience, from the warm welcome to a meal which is simply one of the best restaurants in town. Excellent service. The lobster pappardelle is amazing. The thousand-layer lasagna is outstanding! And Limoncello pie with a creme brûlée top was out of this world good! Even the pot of coffee was just delicious! This is not inexpensive--but its well worth the splurge. Great for a pre-show dinner or a birthday/special occasion meal. I can't wait to visit again. Thank you Trattoria Dell' Arte!!!"
