I know how restaurants have to deal with this on a nightly basis. They were very nice about it and sat us immediately at a table for two. I like the cozy atmosphere. We had a nice conversation with the couple next to us. The food was wonderful and priced very well. The only little blip we had was the wait between the delicious beet salad and the entree, but the place was packed. All the employees were friendly and had smiles on their faces. It is a small venue with very friendly hostess and waiter. They welcomed us and made us feel like family. Our server was attentive and not obtrusive: our courses arrived without long waits and without our feeling rushed. The kitchen is very cooperative in splitting salads. The convenience of location on the Powell/Mason cable car line is a real plus. But the food is good, very substantial, and like an updated version of the neighborhood restaurants that used to populate most of North Beach. Because it is a long block off the main drag, Columbus Avenue, it is less touristy and more traditional. Yet the large windows give you a perfect view of the Cable Cars as they turn.
