Diner Reviews
  • "Good selection of dishes, desserts were mostly home made and tasted wonderful, interesting art from local artists on the walls and available for sale. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will try it again just for dinner"

  • "We were looking for venues for our wedding dinner and the manager was helpful when we called for information. We decided to have dinner there to check out the food and ambiance and I'm so glad we did. My girlfriend's chicken was cooked on the top but completely raw (pink, white, and wiggly) on the bottom. It was almost like the broiled it. The chicken was presliced into 3 parts so the raw chicken was obvious from the start and had the kitchen even looked at the plate they would have known. Poor quality control. The waitress responded with "oh" when we finally got her to the table. The only time she apologized on behalf of the restaurant was when she let us know they took off a drink because the chicken was bad."

  • "One of the best places around for artisan pizza. Fun place for kids (early in the evening) or date night."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant. Accommodating charming wait staff & owner. They remembered us from our party last summer!! Italian menu included great pizza, pasta dishes and fabulous chicken parmesan--They were happy to serve the pollo parmesan over spinach instead of pasta, and sauce on the side....a fabulous dish! Thank you! My nephews loved the chicken piccata and the pizza. We had a table for 10, and remarkably we could hear all conversation...Lovely place for dinner conversation..not too loud. I'd go there for a dinner for 2 or 10! Beautiful decor, exposed brick walls, Warm & friendly, Also great wine. Our family loved it. A dinner gathering our family will remember."

  • "A trip to visit family in Oak Park would not be complete without dinner at Trattoria 225. The food has always been outstanding, in particular the pizzas. The service is attentive, without being overbearing. I like the variety of micro-brewed beers that are on tap. On the most recent visit, Carissa patiently answered questions my father had regarding the beers as he was having trouble deciding. I am looking forward to returning the next time I am in Oak Park."

  • "Wait staff-Waitress was terrible. She took orders-7 of us- in a rushed manner, after repeating initial orders when given, came back and asked what was ordered. She began serving us the wrong entrees. .She reached over 3 diners to serve plates to others, Several members tried to tell her it was a birthday celebration and she never acknowledged. She had to be reminded about cocktail orders. We had to call her to the table and she did not come around to inquire how things were. Food- 3 diners had short ribs and they were not good.. 2 had pasta which was ok, 2 had steak which they reported as good. Cocktails and wine-good. Bread--great, Salad-ok-very vinegary.-needed oil for balance, desserts-ok. Location- great for us locals."

  • "Good menu, great non-standard Italian choices, along with the staples. Good beer menu as well. Seated quickly, good service, a great overall experience by all."

  • "My husband and I have dined at Trattoria 225 a couple of times now. Food and service are usually pretty. However, this time we had the house salad. Wow. It had the blandest, worst vinaigrette on it we'd ever tasted. For that reason, I barely ate mine. Definitely need to work on that. Their dessert was decent. We had the (triple) creme brulee. We've had better creme brulee, that's for sure; but for the price, the amount they gave us alone was a bargain. We'd definitely would go back, as overall the food and pricing is good and reasonable."

  • "Trattoria 225 would be a fine restaurant in a small Midwestern city, but for a foodie-centric place like Oak Park, it disappoints. Pizza was forgettable. Antipasto plate was tired. Service was attentive, but not sophisticated enough to know the right times to check on us. We felt rushed even though only 3 other tables were occupied."

  • "We enjoyed the New Year's Eve special menu, which is a great value, but we also enjoy going there or ordering the delicious pizzas during the year. Staff is always friendly, and the owner always greats the patrons."

  • "New Years Eve - service was excellent, thanks to Allison. Both of us enjoyed entrees, butternut squash ravioli and braised shortribs. Desserts were so-so. Good value, neighborhood place."

  • "I experienced my first meal @ Trattoria 225 on Saturday after Thanksgiving. Good crowd in restaurant, however we received excellent attention from our server. Calamari appetizer and bread very fresh. Dinner salad good, but could step it up a little with selection of greens and other components. Proportion on main course enough to send leftover package home. Although I finished my mushroom ravioli dish without any trouble. The ladies @ our table enjoyed gelato and bread pudding deserts. Coffee was rich and hot. I often eat on Madison St. in Forest Park when visiting family in OPRF area. Tried Trattoria 225 on recommendation from a relative. Completely satisfied with choice and will have to make Harrison St. a regular stop."

  • "Had Short-ribs of Beef NO FLAVOR! risotto was bland, not worth the time of leaving my home to travel to Trattoria; when the waitress gathered my plate she asked if I wanted a to-go container and I expressed NO! I discarded 80% of my dinner. Date had jumbo shrimp and risotto AND again, no seasoning and only 4 shrimp that were over cooked.. The best about Trattoria was the waitress but that's not what I want to enjoy; it's the food we look forward too. I could not in good faith recommend Trattoria for any reason, BLAND, BLAND, BLAND FOOD!"

  • "The restaurant looks great and the owner is very friendly, however the service leaves a lot to be desired. We were still eating our first course when the waiter brought out our entrees and we had to ask him twice to remove dishes and glasses. The burnt brown butter sauce ruined the butternut squash ravioli appetizer. The Chicken Piccata did not have that bright lemon pop to it and the vanilla creme brulee was curdled. The one good thing was the wine, the Camenere was outstanding and a great value. Unfortunately it couldn't save the evening."

  • "Brought my mom there for her birthday...we had a big group, but were seated fairly quickly. Food & wine were great, they were even kind enough to alter a menu item for someone in our group. It was a fine noise level that we could take across a large table & still be able to hear each other. Classy ambience, but not stuffy or pretentious @ all. Great experience!"

  • "Trattoria is fast becoming a staple of our dining repertoire. Good food with a strong bear and wine list. I love the ambience, which feels spacious and full of energy without being too loud. Very kid friendly. Always something on the menu to fit anyone's taste. Italian influences without being too basic/traditional. We've also done special events here, both special requests and organized by the restaurant, with great results (brunch after confirmation, Easter brunch, etc). My only complaint is that the menu does not offer salads for the less adventurous among us. I'm not a frequent salad eater, but when I have wanted one, the options are a little to exotic for may taste."
