Grandma’s and mom’s recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation have arrived here in Rockville.

We as Greeks don’t do anything small; when we gather, we gather big. When we cook; it’s never for one or 2 people, it’s always enough for friends and extended family.

Trapezaria is the celebration of bringing people together with food.

Meal time is the bonding moments we all cherish and hold sacred in our culture.

This, Trapezaria, is what we wish to introduce and extend to our American guests.

  • "The four of us enjoyed a great meal consisting of a few starters and grilled fish (branzino and rock). The food was expertly prepared and served and went well with a bottle of malbec. We will definitely come back and may be we will have room for a desert."

  • "This place has great food and service, offers parking, outdoor seating, and a nice environment (except the A/C was WAY too high even for a hot July evening when I was just there), yet never been crowded when I've been there (which, admittedly, has never been a Fri or Sat night). I'm thrilled to be able to get in when I want, but I'd hate to see Trapezaria fail, so please check it out! It is the best full-service Greek restaurant in MoCo, IMO. Tip: Both the veg and the meat dolmades are outstanding. The spanakopita is also very good, though I don't know why everyone in the DC area makes them as triangles instead of sliced from a big casserole (too much phyllo with triangles). Props for the moussaka and avgolemono too."

  • "This was our first visit and we loved it. The owner greeted us as we came in and our waitress Elenni was outstanding. We shared the cheese Saganaki appetizer flamed at the table with cheers of OPA.. We had the Branzino (fish) which was cooked to perfection and deboned at table side. Galatoboreko was one of the best desserts we have ever had. we will certainly visit this restaurant again."

  • "We had a reservation for a Saturday night and arrived on time. After about half an hour without anyone taking our order we finally caught a man who appeared to be the owner to get a waiter. We ordered appetizers and entrees. The appetizers NEVER came. The food was mediocre. They did comp us a dessert. The noise level was so high (even after some tables opened up) that we had to shout to hear our friends across the table. We came because of Todd Kliman's review in the May Washingtonian - he sure got this wrong! I've never written such a review before but this was so bad I decided to comment."

  • "Good food but service was not paced appropriately. We ordered our food and literally five minutes after ordering, all of our food was brought out to us -- mezze, salad and entree. We asked that the entree be taken back but then while still eating our salad and mezze, the entree was brought back out to us and put on the table. Then we had difficulty getting our bill and getting someone to take our credit card."

  • "Trapezaria was not having a good day. Two different servers came to our table a total of five times before they could finally decide who was our server. Our party of four ordered two $15 dip trios per the menu. Because we ordered two different sets of dip trios, logically we shld have been served two "cones" of pita bread for the two trays of dips. We were only served one initially whch was fine but when we requested a second, we were charged extra. That is simply wrong. We did not make an issue of it, but the likelihood of returning to the restaurant are reduced. Also we had to wait ~fifteen minutes for our server to bring the check. The glowing reviews in TheWashingtonPost etc are incorrect."

  • "Trapezaria provides what the French would call an embarras de richesses; that is, they cook and serve all your Greek favorites here. I enjoyed my fill of beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts, followed by roast lamb accompanied by roast potatoes and green beans in tomato sauce. My daughter found the stuffed grape leaves and spanikopita up to her expectations. The galactibourikos we shared was exquisite. I am looking forward to my next visit to try more of their dishes!"

  • "The food was fabulous, the restaurant was pretty. You need to be in a mood for service that is a bit wired and theatrical. Almost intrusive but certainly not meant that way. I will return for the lamb special - it was the best Youvetsi I've ever had. But the place was so noisy and frenetic at 7 pm on a Saturday night that conversation was impossible, even in their "quiet" area. It wasn't packed - it was the music and the wait staff that made it so crazy."

  • "I want to like this restaurant. And the food is promising. But it needs to fix some kinks. Start with the service. Went on a Wednesday night and restaurant was less than half full. Yet the parade of waiters ignored us; we had to flag down a runner. It appeared that there was some confusion about which waiter "had" our location. Eventually a waiter arrived, took our order, and then we never saw him again until we had to flag him down for the check. Next, we ordered a cocktail - the first one listed on the drink menu - only to be told that they ran out of Prosecco, the main ingredient! Finally, there was a live keyboardist playing Greek influenced music. Lovely, but WAY TOO LOUD, especially as there is nothing to absorb sound."

  • "The food was excellent-- robust, delicious. For four of us, we ordered the 20-dish mezze special for $40 for appetizers. There was so much food, both cold and hot dishes, that it could have filled us all. It included all the usual dips, salad and olives with pita bread, following by baked lamb, Cyprus sausage, and fried calamari. Certainly for 2 people, it would be more than enough food for dinner. We ordered main dishes anyway and I really liked my sampler of Spanakopita, Moussakas, Dolmades Avgolemono, Arni Psito and more delicious baked lamb. Others ordered the grilled octopus dinner special which was meaty and soft; the baked lamb was full of garlic flavors; the shrimp in sauce with rice was good but less interesting. Going back!"

Service was erratic in that at first dishes came at breakneck speed and then, when we said something, quite slow. Took four requests to get bread. But, our server was wonderful and she made the evening fun, with very honest food recommendations. The real problem was noise level, which got pretty high once the place filled. The restaurant would do well to add some "soft" surfaces to absorb sound reflections."

  • "We were guests of friends for dinner. We picked this place, based on Tom Sietsema's review. Bad idea. Tom obviously ate at a different restaurant. Greeting, slow, impersonal and incompetent. Manager seems to wander around, doing nothing. Average age of diners - really old. Avgolemono was very good. I got lamb skewers. Waitress asked what doneness, and I replied rare to medium rare. Skewers arrived (san skewer), and were beyond well done. Waitress then said they couldn't be cooked as I ordered. That was obvious, but why inquire as to how I wanted them cooked? The lamb looked and tasted like road kill. Back it went. This is a bad restaurant, badly run. Poor service and crummy food. Avoid."

  • "The food was authentic Greek - nicely seasoned and the right temperature. We had the lamb and the grilled octopus with appetizers and rice pudding for dessert. However the service was like it was the first night of operation. Wait staff walked around in a daze. One asked us if we had menus? What? was he blind? - there were no menus in front of us! We waited and waited for anyone to take notice of us. My entrée came out with the appetizers. I should have sent it back. We needed more bread and asked for it but never got it until we asked a second time. It appeared that our waiter didn't want to deal with us. The salad dressing was perfect however. The lamb was good but my husband didn't like the cuts he was given - too bony."

  • "enjoyed our meal, despite it being rushed as they accepted a reservation before they were closing for a private party. The lamb & orzo dish was very flavorful - cinnamon came out but not overpowering. whole fish was good - I had to ask for the lemon/oil sauce that should be served with it. the grilled octopus had little flavor, but the grilled veggies were nicely done. I concur with others that many of the "prepared dishes" were served colder than they should have been . Their green beans in tomato sauce side dish was good, but almost cold...which made it disappointing. The tzatsiki was yummy!"

She didn't put in one of the appetizers we ordered, so it never came to the table... even after we asked for it twice. One of our dishes came out wrong due to an error in her entering the order. Requests for lemons, bread, etc. were also forgotten. "

  • "The noise level at Trapezeria made communication a little difficult. Even the waiter had to ask us to repeat our order. The live entertainment is good but it does add to that noise level with the open ceiling. The food is good and presented nicely. All of us enjoyed what we ate. Thanks too to the manager for turning down the air conditioning when we mentioned how cold it was in the restaurant. We appreciated it!"

  • "Noise in a restaurant distracts from enjoying the food and company. Here, one has to shout in order to be heard and we did not enjoy it. In addition, the HVAC system pours cold air from ducts located just above the tables, adding insult to injury. Overall, the food was just OK. Large portions of various lamb dishes featured as specials of the day were well cooked but almost tasteless. the dorado was fine as were the string beans. May be withe a quieter environment the food would have tasted better. We decided to go elsewhere for deserts as we all developed headaches from the noise."

It was pouring rain, we were met at the door by a gracious gentleman who got the door fir us & had an umbrella stand handy to get us out of the elements quickly. Our waiter was well - versed in the food, and made wonderful recommendations. Service was prompt & we were attended to without being hovered over. The food was excellent! The lamb special was outstanding! Excellent seafood, & everything on the sampler platter was delicious! I will definitely be coming back! "

  • " i was delighted with my choice of TRAPEZARIA for my family's Easter dinner. We were greeted warmly at the door. Our server Eleni, was knowledgeable about the each dish served: tsatziki and wonderful pita triangles, magheritsa (like home made), Greek salad with crisp romaine, lamb chunks (braised and roasted and falling-off- the bone tender), delicious Greek potatoes, and Easter bread with a dyed red egg. she treated us as if we were guests in her home. The dessert, galatobouriko, itself was worth a trip to this restaurant (crisp filo and not cloyingly sweet). we ordered a Boutari Greek wine which complemented the food perfectly. the chef also greeted us at the end of our meal. we had wonderful dining experience and are eager to return."

  • "Found Trapezaria on Open Table, seeking a local spot for dinner. Our server, Olga, was very knowledgeable of the menu, she seemed to be in a hurry, but we followed all her recommendations and were quite pleased. The lamb short ribs were delicious, as were the accompanying potatoes and green beans. Serving sizes: huge! The beet salad was delicious, but I could not finish it. Rice pudding was described with golden raisins, none appeared, but the dessert was delicious as well. If the musician is there, you will enjoy his music, but sit in the back, it is a bit loud up close. All in all, an enjoyable evening, we will definitely go back when a desire for Greek food arises. A great addition to the downtown Rockville restaurants."
