On this occasion it was the first time when I was disappointed with the food. I tried something new - the Frittata. I don't think I will order it again... in my experience it was dry, over cooked and bland. I think the chef could do better. The bistro fries, however, were delicious as usual!

I know it's an oxymoron but Trafalgar's has the charm of down-to-earth fresh food mixed with considerable attention to detail. Gnocchi with a 63-degree egg--is this a new Vancouver trend? Rabbit terrine with mushrooms and savoury accompaniments? Even the Underhill Pinot Noir--never heard of it, am not a wine snob, just an oenophile, was scrumptious. Eat here!

We have been dining at Trafalgar's for years as the location is convenient for us. But finding the menu now uninspiring. Mussels have been on the menu forever. As has the lamb burger. Food is good but no wow factor. Service very good. I found my dessert heavier and sweeter than I remember it being. No complaints but didn't feel that I want to rush back.

  • Need crunchier lettuce

Given the quality of the overall restaurant scene in Vancouver, I think to remain competitive your dishes need to be a little tastier, a little more distinguishable and the lettuce crunchier. I had a caesar salad that was indistinguishable from something I would get at a chain restaurant. The atmosphere gives the impression that you are somewhere happening--which is good. Now to the menu--make it happening.

Trafalgar's Bistro never disappoints - easy parking in a lovely neighbourhood, attractive patio, and a warm welcome; comfortable seating in an elegant but unpretentious room with quiet, pleasing and timeless decor; excellent lighting; consistently interesting and tempting (but healthy!) seasonal menus of mostly local food served most professionally by friendly staff, plus a good wine list; food is always attractively presented and delicious; wonderful dessert options! Our Sunday lunch choices included poached eggs with smoked salmon on potato latkes accompanied by a zesty tomato and onion salsa, much enhanced by a pousse rapier and good coffee. All this is followed by a reasonable bill ...

I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened, and it's still my all-time favorite in Vancouver. Why? Food's excellent, service is great, and it has a yummy wine list. Not to mention comfortable seats and a really pretty wrap-around patio in the summer. Best desserts in town, and the bistro fries (salt, Parmesan and a little truffle oil on crispy frites) are to die for. Desserts? Never skip the warm toffee cake with vanilla ice cream, and my other perennial favorite, chocolate banana crepes. If that's not enough, they are also the greenest restaurant I've ever been in; they do their part for the environment.

I was happy to find an Oregon pinot noir by the glass to start. The soup and the salad were pretty good but I really enjoyed the buttermilk chicken I had as my main. I was surprised to see a three page dessert menu before I remembered that they have a partner bakery just next door. Dessert was fantastic and the service was enjoyable. There are not many French restaurants that do lunch on a Monday.

The third time I have eaten here recently! The first thing to say is that the service is superb, whether inside or out. The wine selection, especially by the glass, is very good. What lets it it down is certain aspects of the food. For example on my last visit I have the all-Day Breakfast; nothing was freshly cooked! It had all been previously coked and served up. On the three occasions i have been there my guest has ordered there special fries for the table. Each time they have been kept warm rather than freshly cooked. This ought not to happen in a restaurant of this calibre, there's no excuse. A good restaurant, like so many others needing a little more attention to detail.

Clean and quiet ambiance with above average food. Young waitress was prompt in seating me even though I was 15 minutes early for a 10:30am reservation for 5 people, and in offering menus & cold tap water. Once the other members of my party arrived (3 arrived on time) I appreciated that she let us settle in for about 10 minutes before offering to take our orders. Once our orders were placed however it took the kitchen quite a long time (20 minutes) before our meals arrived. Restaurant had 4 other tables with 2-4 people each to serve, so it wasn't exceptionally busy. Fortunately the bistro offers warm baguette slices and creamy butter before our fresh meals arrived.

Trafalgars Bistro is consistently good. When I tire of trying other places which prove to be disappointing, I come here. The food always tips its hat to current trends without going "over the top". There there are my favourites, the moules et frites, the lamb burger and the salad nicoise. I hope they stay on the menu forever.

My guests had been to the restaurant before, as had I, however, all three of us were disappointed with the food. Salade Nicoise did not taste fresh or crisp, somewhat on the wilted side, with a very mediocre presentation for the price and the dessert was terrible. A pasty chocolate tart that claimed to have caramel which we couldn't taste. A very expensive lunch for little return. Only the wine and cappuccinos were great..

There was a large party in the restaurant, which caused us to move outside. They were very loud. The patio was actually quite lovely, but 3 of the 4 of us chose one of the specials. The meal was OK, but not as good as I would have expected (it was the cod on pasta). We have been to Trafalgar's many times, and this was not up to what they would typically serve. The service was also OK, but also not great also. We ordered some more wine when the first bottle was empty (about the time the main course was served), and it was not until dessert was being served that the server asked if we wanted it. Having wine with the main course seemed more appropriate than with dessert. We declined the wine. Could have/should have been better

I took my parents, upon my Fathers request, to Trafalgars for lunch. We sat on the patio even though the black clouds circled over head. My family are staunch vancouverites - a chance of rain can't scare us. The restaurant was not overly busy and this sometimes is a bad sign. But not in this case. The servers were friendly and helpful and genuinely laughed at my fathers corny jokes. Our food came in a timely manner and was fresh and flavourful. I have been to the cafe but have not eaten in the restaurant. I would return in a heartbeat with friends. Excellent choice on Father's Day and it never rained.

This is a lovely neighbourhood spot. It's been here for years and now that my mom has moved into the area I selected Trafalgars. The ambiance is warm and welcoming and comfortable for my mom who is a senior. The vibe may change a bit later on but dining at 6pm with an 83 year old the server was so friendly and patient. We started with the special which was assorted fresh mushrooms on grilled bread with goats cheese, mom had the lamb burger which is the perfect size-not too large and I had the mussels in white wine accompanied by frites with parm and assorted herbs with aioli. A glass of sparkling wine to top it all off and the meal was perfect. Many amazing looking desserts on the menu but we were too full. Next time!

I found the menu to be somewhat restricted to foods prepared very unconventionally. That being said, the shrimp with avocado mousse was very tasty especially with the frites which the restaurant does very well. The mussels were done in the standard wine broth with leeks which was also very good. Their forte is their desserts which were excellent. My only complaint is that the tables are quite close together and the noise level becomes quite loud. I would recommend dining outside if weather permits.

Between the two of us we enjoyed the organic greens, the spring-like sweet pea, leek and mint risotto, the good and very filling lamb burger, and a shared banana and chocolate filled crepe. Their complete dinners were $35 or $45, (appy, main & dessert) but you could order each course individually. In the lower group was a burger & pasta, I recall. In both groups some dishes had surcharges. Dessert choices are many. All four of us had complete dinners. We agreed it was fine, but we likely wouldn't return.

The short ride on transit from our downtown hotel into a lovely residential neighborhood. Stop in Sweet Obsessions bakery next door owned by Trafalgars to live vicariously as a preview to the dessert tray waiting at the end of the meal. Quiet Monday diners and a warm greeting. Perfect Manhattan and Rob Roy to start. Prix for two - Dungeness Crab Crepe n Sweet Breads for apps were delicious - local BC Wild Salmon was a memorable entrée. Local white BC wine by the glass made nice parings - Kettle Valley Viognier was particularly good. Salted Caramel Tart and Triple Chocolate Mousse were sublime with a roasted rich cappuccino. Service throughout was attentive, personable and knowledgeable. Ambience was cozy and warm. Great night out.

Came here for an impromptu early lunch after a workout. The service is always warm and cheerful. I had the lamb burger -- I love how they service slightly pink -- so juicy and delicious. This place truly is a neighbourhood gem.
