Diner Reviews
  • "I've only been here twice but the food is always good. Wish they'd do something about those fruit flies."

  • "We have dined at Trafalgar's often but our experience on Saturday night was the best ever. The new menu offered some great options. The squid appy was delicious. The chicken and braised brisket , equally delicious. The servers are very professional, but approachable. Looking forward to going back soon."

  • "There was a large party in the restaurant, which caused us to move outside. They were very loud. The patio was actually quite lovely, but 3 of the 4 of us chose one of the specials. The meal was OK, but not as good as I would have expected (it was the cod on pasta). We have been to Trafalgar's many times, and this was not up to what they would typically serve. The service was also OK, but also not great also. We ordered some more wine when the first bottle was empty (about the time the main course was served), and it was not until dessert was being served that the server asked if we wanted it. Having wine with the main course seemed more appropriate than with dessert. We declined the wine. Could have/should have been better"

  • "My guests had been to the restaurant before, as had I, however, all three of us were disappointed with the food. Salade Nicoise did not taste fresh or crisp, somewhat on the wilted side, with a very mediocre presentation for the price and the dessert was terrible. A pasty chocolate tart that claimed to have caramel which we couldn't taste. A very expensive lunch for little return. Only the wine and cappuccinos were great.."

  • "I took my parents, upon my Fathers request, to Trafalgars for lunch. We sat on the patio even though the black clouds circled over head. My family are staunch vancouverites - a chance of rain can't scare us. The restaurant was not overly busy and this sometimes is a bad sign. But not in this case. The servers were friendly and helpful and genuinely laughed at my fathers corny jokes. Our food came in a timely manner and was fresh and flavourful. I have been to the cafe but have not eaten in the restaurant. I would return in a heartbeat with friends. Excellent choice on Father's Day and it never rained."

  • "This is a lovely neighbourhood spot. It's been here for years and now that my mom has moved into the area I selected Trafalgars. The ambiance is warm and welcoming and comfortable for my mom who is a senior. The vibe may change a bit later on but dining at 6pm with an 83 year old the server was so friendly and patient. We started with the special which was assorted fresh mushrooms on grilled bread with goats cheese, mom had the lamb burger which is the perfect size-not too large and I had the mussels in white wine accompanied by frites with parm and assorted herbs with aioli. A glass of sparkling wine to top it all off and the meal was perfect. Many amazing looking desserts on the menu but we were too full. Next time!"

  • "We love this place every time we go. It is great to see that this bistro and its genesis, Sweet Obsessions, are still there and still delivering great service and wonderful food. Great location, ambience, menu, and always an enjoyable experience - both lunch and dinner. I wish we could find a Sweet Obsessions dessert that was allergy safe (no egg, no nuts), but the sorbet and sponge toffee is a delicious option."

  • "Between the two of us we enjoyed the organic greens, the spring-like sweet pea, leek and mint risotto, the good and very filling lamb burger, and a shared banana and chocolate filled crepe. Service was good on Saturday evening in a room which was quiet when we arrived but almost full by the time we left, with noise rising to the "energetic" level."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "I found the menu to be somewhat restricted to foods prepared very unconventionally. That being said, the shrimp with avocado mousse was very tasty especially with the frites which the restaurant does very well. The mussels were done in the standard wine broth with leeks which was also very good. Their forte is their desserts which were excellent. My only complaint is that the tables are quite close together and the noise level becomes quite loud. I would recommend dining outside if weather permits."

  • "The food at Trafalgar is simply outstanding. Tastes are sublime. Menu very good and presentation superb. It is a comfortable and welcoming decor with good use of oak trim and a layout that leaves many tables with a sense."

  • "Back again given its clean environment, well suited for conversation and not overcrowded. The prix fixe menu was a great choice given the varied plates. The food was great and generous portion of pate was more than one usually gets at other restaurants and well appreciated by our guests. Service was great and timely. "

  • "Really good food; but wooden floors made atmosphere really noisy."

  • "WE had a nice brunch, soup and salad were both good "
    Dined on 5/19/2014
  • "Their complete dinners were $35 or $45, (appy, main & dessert) but you could order each course individually. In the lower group was a burger & pasta, I recall. In both groups some dishes had surcharges. Dessert choices are many. All four of us had complete dinners. We agreed it was fine, but we likely wouldn't return."

  • "First timer - meals were good but my wife had the pork loin that was not up to snuff (I don't eat meat so can't comment). really loud and space bounces and enhances the sound. Will go back though! "

  • "This restaurant had a unique and carefully crafted menu. The food was all local and conscientiously sourced. We thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the meal, and would recommend it to anyone seeking a refined and delicious experience. "

  • "Came here for an impromptu early lunch after a workout. The service is always warm and cheerful. I had the lamb burger -- I love how they service slightly pink -- so juicy and delicious. This place truly is a neighbourhood gem."

  • "The short ride on transit from our downtown hotel into a lovely residential neighborhood. Stop in Sweet Obsessions bakery next door owned by Trafalgars to live vicariously as a preview to the dessert tray waiting at the end of the meal. Quiet Monday diners and a warm greeting. Perfect Manhattan and Rob Roy to start. Prix for two - Dungeness Crab Crepe n Sweet Breads for apps were delicious - local BC Wild Salmon was a memorable entrée. Local white BC wine by the glass made nice parings - Kettle Valley Viognier was particularly good. Salted Caramel Tart and Triple Chocolate Mousse were sublime with a roasted rich cappuccino. Service throughout was attentive, personable and knowledgeable. Ambience was cozy and warm. Great night out."

  • "They easily fit our larger group, and we had plenty of space. The service was great - didn't feel rushed at all. The food was fantastic. We all got different meals, and everyone was very pleased with their food. I recommend for a casual or special occasion night. We will definitely be returning :)"

  • "Imaginative menu and really great service, now a regular spot for us."

  • "Trafalgars has stepped up their culinary game. For dinner, they've gone to a mostly prix-fixe/3-course menu at two pricing levels, $35 and $45. Our starters (sweetbreads and wild greens) were delicious - creative preparation (loved the "parmesan cream egg") and beautiful plating. The entrees we had (pork and lamb) were also well-prepared and delicious. And of course, the desserts were fantastic (we opted to have one of them "to go" as the dinner portions were generous). Service was attentive without being obtrusive."

  • "The checked items under the recommendation for this restaurant tell the tale, more or less. Open Table should add another " Will you return ?" Well, the answer is a resounding YES !!! The staff were extremely personable and non-intrusive, but always around. And we loved that they did not "pester" us. A great Dining out for Life luncheon experience."

  • "We both had the lamb burger. Fabulous. As it's out of our local neighbourhood, we sometimes forget about this restaurant. We were reminded how terrific it was and put it back on the top of our list. Worth the extra few minutes drive, for sure."

  • "One of my favorites! Be casual, be fancy, this restaurant has some of the most genuine staff ever!! Food is great!! The place is wonderful!!!"

  • "Following a slump in food quality that kept us away from what used to be a local favourite, we gave Trafalgar's a second chance this weekend. The old Trafalgar's is back with a new menu and a new chef. Outstanding neighbourhood bistro fare with perfect service and a warm atmosphere."

  • "Excellent restaurant, staff were very attentive and professional. We shared the scallops for an appetizer, best part of the meal."

  • "Went there for a birthday dinner and we found the place to be a great find. Food was well presented, imaginative and excellent quality. Service was superb. Is now on our list of places to go back to. Even though it is set up (by location) as a neighbourhood restaurant it is worth a drive to enjoy the food."

  • "This is a great high class restaurant with a wonderfully creative menu located in a good neighbourhood. Calling it a "neighbourhood" restaurant doesn't do it justice. Attentive service, calm ambience, lovely food - everything is super."

  • "We had a great experience at this restaurant. The staff was really friendly and very attentive to our special requests (dietary restrictions). The food was great, I especially liked the lamb ragu with linguini (I believe it was the day's special)."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner at Trafalgar Bistro. This is truly a fine restaurant with creative, delicious menu options. We can't wait for the next special event to celebrate, as we definitely know we'll be coming back to the bistro. Thank you for the personal touch, friendly service and a dining experience to remember."

  • "This was a perfect spot to take my friends from Seattle for a holiday season brunch. They liked being at the greenest restaurant in Vancouver, knowing where the food was sourced, and the warm friendly service. Above all, we appreciated not having to scream across the table to engage in deep conversation. Unlike at so many restaurants these days where the music is so loud and successfully encourages eat and run, we enjoyed the pleasure of lingering after a good meal….what a civilized experience! Food quality was excellent, although I found the Hungarian goulash (special of the day) somewhat lacking in excitement."
