  • "For groups they automatically charge 18% gratuity and then leave room for you to tip more. They even provide for your "convenience" gratuity calculations from the total check including all taxed and the already included gratuity!!! This is a rip-off."

  • "While visiting LA recently, took advantage of an opportunity to dine at Trader Vic's in the LA Love complex. It proved to be a terrific choice with an ambiance that let you knew anyone else was a mere copy cat and food that was incredibly well prepared and delicious. I enjoyed the slow cooked over wood fire Hawaiian Pork chop, my date had the Ahi Tuna, both delicious. And the Mai Tai's (from the place that invented them) were also excellent. I cannot say enough about the attentive service. Occasionally you hear horror stories about dining spots in tourist locations but I can attest that this is absolutely not the cast at Trader Vic's. We will make sure to reserve again when coming back to SoCal."

  • "Dinner reservation was at 5:00. We were seated promptly. Workers were still arranging tables in the dining room area. We weren't served bread, I don't think it was baked yet. I ordered the seared ahi sandwich, but the server returned and said it wasn't available yet. I ended up ordering a turkey burger with fries. The food was good, service was pretty good too."

  • "Food was over priced and not good quality. Calamari appetizer was in edible. I went with two 19 year old boys and we barely touched the appetizers. Their salmon was small and the sides were not good I ordered a filet mignon (medium). It was over cooked and poor quality. Only good thing was location to staple center, but we should have had dinner at one of the crowded restaurants...trader Vic's was empty for a reason."

  • "Having never been to Trader Vic's, I was looking for a good mai tai, fun atmosphere, and good food. I found it all here and I would visit Trader Vic's again. I wouldn't order the same menu items, though; I'd probably get something from the wood-fired menu. As for the mai tais, they were a bit pricey at $11 each. However, they were definitely made properly and I'd order again. Trader Vic's was nicely decorated and did a fine job of capturing a Polynesian atmosphere. I visited on a Wednesday evening and, while I made reservations, not knowing how busy the restaurant would be, there was no need. We, quite literally, had the entire restaurant to ourselves. It made for a very nice evening. I'd go back."

  • "We chose to got to Trader Vic's when there was no activity at Staples or Nokia. Also, it was the night of the Oscars. The restaurant was empty--lovely. Great food-great service."

  • "I think of this place as more of an appetizers and drinks place. Trader Vick's does those two thing great."

  • "The restaurant is fun and nostalgic with lots of tikis and Hawaiian motif. Our table was ready and everyone was nice. The service was a bit rushed and not that personable and the food was adequate, but not that memorable. My seared ahi had no spice or flavor and was a bit pricey. We chose this spot because the other LA Live restaurants were too long of a wait and we had Lakers tickets. The boys with us liked their burgers."

  • "The service was good, the waiter was friendly and efficient, but when faced with a minor issue over a dessert drink, was evasive and unresponsive to addressing the issue. The issue was a watered down drink. It was a Tahitian Mudslide to be made with Gold rum, Baileys,Amaretto, Kahlua and creme. What was served was a flavorless glass of crushed ice that tasted like watered down milk. Both I and my partner agreed about the quality of the drink. When politely brought to the attention of the waiter, he simply dismissed it with a remark not even remotely related to the issue and walked away. After spending $169 on two meals, bottle of wine, and a couple drinks, it seems like we just got the heave-ho over one small request."

  • "We went to Trader Vic's for my Mom's Birhday as well as a late Valentines Day celebration. Each person in our party of 5 ordered something different. Plus we ordered 2 appetizers, 3 mixed drinks and one dessert. (The restaurant provided a very yummy dessert for the birthday girl!!!) The food was really delicious. Hightlists were the 9 Spice Chicken, Ahi Tuna Salad and the Sea Bass. But my favorite was the Poke Tuna appetizer. Our server was GREAT!!! There were just no glitches at all. The only drawback was that the music from the bar (which was good music) was just a bit lout and made conversation in our location (close to the bar) difficult. I will definitely recommend Trader Vic's."

  • "overall it was very nice. We had reservations & we're seated immediately; however, Valentine's had a special menu & we wanted to order from the regular menu which they told us we had to move to the lounge area. Sitting in a different area didn't bother me, but I do wish they informed customers about the designated areas first so avoid the moving. The lounge had nice live music. The waitress was really nice. The food runners however were unclear as to where orders went. There were three instances they attempted to bring food to our table that wasn't ours. Then we received our appetizer and one of two entrees at the same time. My husband's entree did not come for another 15 minutes. Being that I wanted to eat with him, my food became cold."

  • "We visited here at LA Live before going to a Clipper game at Staples Center. Service was very fast. We enjoyed a selection of "pupus" appetizers. We enjoyed this very much. We were late for our reservation due to heavy traffic and we appreciate that the restaurant held our table and the hostess was very friendly as I called ahead to inform them of our delay."

  • "My mom and I had a really nice evening here. The only thing is that they were out of Butter Rum for one of their signature dessert cocktails. Other than that we had an enjoyable meal and really liked their Rum Keg cocktail. I would recommend this restaurant"

  • "Took a business colleague to Trader Vic's before a Lakers game. Reservation was in order and we were seated immediately. Service from both our server and busboy was excellent. Good beer selection and I enjoyed the Trader Vic's Mai Tai. Shared the "Cosmos (I think) appetizer plate and it was very good and perfect for two. I had a burger. It was cooked perfectly and very good. My colleague had the fish and chips and it looked good too. We both liked the house-made peanut butter served with bread. Will go back."

  • "Our poor waiter had so many tables... we never even got a hello till after we were seated for 15 mins; I could tell he was running around like crazy BUT he never apologized for it, or told us the situation. So we were ignored all night. The food was mediocre at best. It's not cheap $35 each, and I wish I had gone to in&out instead... mushy fries, soggy egg rolls, and bland meat."

  • "Recently went to a Kings game and wanted to have dinner before the game. Tired if the crowds and long lines, I made a reservation on Open Table for Trader Vics and getting seated was a breeze. If you want a nice alternative at LA Live, this is a great option."

  • "We were a group of 5 going to a concert at the Nokia Theater and all I can say that the drinks are good (extensive alcoholic menu); food was OK for our taste; we all found our dishes a little too salty and I have to say that for the prices on the main menu items the portions are too small; a friend on our party ordered the steak and we were surprised that the steak was so small and comes with French fries for $25.00; I ordered the paella plate and it was also very skimpy on the portion for $30.00; the other meals were not memorable either; the wonton soup was so salty and dark like it was just salty water and soy sauce and with about 3 wontons on it and I believe that was about $10.00??Not a very happy dining experience for our group."

  • "Great food, reasonably priced and right next to Staples center, so perfect before a show. It was kind of weird that they had wine but no wine list- the server had to "go see what they had.""

  • "Started with the crab ragoons- soggy mess. My husband ordered fish and chips - it was more like microwaved fish sticks. They were soggy and very greasy. I ordered chicken chow mein - I had to send back because the chicken was so dry it was not edible. They brought me fried rice- it was crunchy, dry and had no flavor. At this point we were about to miss the kings game and needed to go. We were celebrating my husbands bday - they brought us out a melted cup of ice cream and charged me 8 bucks for it. We looked at each other and decided it was time to go. What a horrible birthday dinner. Don't bother making a reservation the food is horrible!!!"

  • "The first theme restaurant in US falls short on food service and quality. Wanted a spot for dinner before Buble concert this spot is close looked interesting. Cute Polynesian decor, however overshadowed by Christmas carols blasting. Their famous mai tai over burdened with too much alcohol was a disappointment However the cocoanut shrimp was terrific. Lackluster bread served with a peanut butter like concoction that was strange . Main course the miso glazed sea bass was also less than fabulous .Fish had a strong odor and was sitting on top if a pile of overlooked vegetables. Never again . Memorable for all the wrong reasons. However Bubke saved the evening with an AMAZING concert !!"

  • "My husband and I had reservations to celebrate our anniversary. Everything was fine at first. The Mai Tai's were tasty, the appetizers as well. Then we just sat and waited and waited. We sat down @ 6pm and be 7:30PM we still didn't have our dinner. Yet, the table next to us was personally being served by the manager and other tables that were seated about the same time as us were getting their food. We ended up cancelling our food order as we had a concert to attend. We were so disappointed. Our server said the kitchen was backed up. Needless to say, we will definitely not be returning and not recommending. Worst dining experience!"

  • "Food was pretty good and service was about average, but the ambiance is was you pay for and you get a lot of that! One of the better "old time" LA establishments. Too bad the Beverly Hilton closed the original Trader Vic's and replaced it with this one. It just doesn't have the classy, kitschy feel of the old one. The Beverly Hills Hotel has just a Trader Vic's lounge which is nothing like this restaurant. Tried it once and probably won't return as there are many other better restaurants in the area that have a better quality of food, service and ambiance....."

  • "This is an updated less specialized menu and is good if you seek something with an Asian flair while at LA live. However, it lakes the elegance, charm and culinary flair of the original 5 Star Trader Vic's brand. Overall, good experience and great service."

  • "Went to Trader Vic's to celebrate my 50th (I chose the place). We all really enjoyed the drinks and atmosphere. Our waiter told us they didn't have any tiki mugs to buy as souveniers because they were out of them. Disappointing, but it was my birthday so they broke loose with one. No swizzles or matchbooks or other swag to be found. We enjoyed the food. I had sea bass cooked in the Chinese wood oven and it was awesome, as good as any fish I have ever had. The ahi poke was a favorite of everyones as well. The pork sliders were just ok, my daughter said they were a little boring and bland. All in all, we had a good time and enjoyed the place. The service from our waiter was good, and the drinks and food all came without delay. Decor is cool."

  • "Something has gone way south at Trader Vics. After a great experience in the bar a few months back we went back with our kids. Our waiter while pleasant enough spoke very proper English but with poor accent that was hard to follow and we had to repeat almost everything we asked of him sloooowly and point to things on the menu. My friend wanted white wine but they don't have a wine list as they were reprinting. My other friend wanted absolute and tonic , no Absolute. Then we ordered . No rib eye , no recommendations. All this took several back and forth trips and when we expressed our dismay our server said " I am only the waiter". Finally when the food came it was only marginal. Sorry Trader Vic's your past your prime."

  • "We were craving the ribs. Before the menu changed, the smoked ribs (cooked in a smoker) were amazing though overpriced. The ribs at LA Live were cooked in an oven. Not amazing served cold. Sent them back twice to be warmed and overpriced. ($15 for 6 pork ribs). Food was okay. Not noteworthy. Expensive. Drinks are fabulous. Would go for drinks again and dine elsewhere"

  • "I love that Trader Vic's is in my neighborhood. The Duck Tacos and Beef Cho-Cho are great appetizers. I usually get the Wasabi-crusted Filet Mignon or the Trader Vic's Salmon. The Polynesian Snowball is a great dessert. Always great service. Go before the game or a show at L.A. Live."
