This place rocks...they sat us at our favorite table, surprised us with a couple of glasses of champagne! While the food menu is short, everything we have tried thus far is just delicious! Romantic ambience, excellent service (Mika & Ben Jordan...both took excellent care for us on our two visits!). On our first visit, we had this incredible chocolate dessert......which was absent from the menu this time...so what do they do...they created a custom "chocaholics" dessert for us...incredible! Most recent visit was for brunch and had a fantastic meal. Our waiter was incredibly nice and accommodating when we mentioned we had an injured guest in our party and would like to sit outside but need a place for our guest to put his foot up. The food was delicious as always. Waffles are my favorite but I tried the chicken sausage club and was very pleased with my decision. The migas were a hit by all - all native Austinites so we know migas. Bloody marys had just the right amount of spice, watermelon juice was extremely refreshing on a warm spring morning, and coffee was great as well. I love the modern details in the decor and the open air feel of the dining room that faces the patio. The food was wonderfully presented and very tasty! My only complaint was that I would've expected better service from the wait staff. They didn't really go out of their way to make sure we were enjoying our dining experience. There were a few times when I had to ask for refills and my brother tried twice to get our servers attention for a cup of coffee. But other than that, It wont keep me away from enjoying Trace again!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely ladies' brunch!Posh with some cozy, and delicious food that was perfectly sized for me & my friend -- just what we needed for a ladies' treat! We hit up Trace for Restaurant Week; I was a little wary of the $17 bunch options of just 2 courses, but my migas was delicious (the accompanying potatoes somehow deliciously reminded me of sausage; the creamy salsa was a nice hint of spicy; and the black beans added a nice filler when I made a mini taco with the migas (yum crunch factor with the tortilla chip-strips!)), and still my friend and I could only manage to split one of the small-sugared & stuffed donut that was my "dessert!" (Her parfait looked deliciously fresh, too, btw.) Loved the silky velvet tufted banquette, the streaming light, and live music!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAlthough my husband and IAlthough my husband and I arrived early, we were seated promptly and had a beer while awaiting our friends. The table was inside, but next to the open patio doors, so we got the best of both venues. The crab hush puppies and the salad were excellent; the lamb shoulder with couscous was tasty; and the Drunken Donuts were divine!

We try for someplace that not only has a sterling reputation, but is a little off-beat. We decided on Trace sight unseen, and we loved it. The food was excellent, particularly the small plates -- and of those, especially the jar of pimento cheese! Our waiter, Scott, was perfect -- appropriately and unobtrusively attentive, and spot on on his recommendations. Food was fantastic, as was our server - when we wanted to order fries, he told us that our plates already came with fries. Water glasses were always filled, and the server was attentive without being a nuisance. He also brought 2 birthday desserts for us to share at the end of the meal.
