A word from Tra Vigne
Tra Vigne is a ristorante set apart among the vines, creating the illusion of an enchanted Italian village. Behind the ivy covered walls are Three distinct environments: The grand dining room with 30 foot ceilings and a hand-carved bar, the courtyard with alfresco service, and the Magnum Library for special events. Chef's creations from antipasti to pastas, entrees and desserts pay passionate homage to traditional Italian cookery. The restaurant's extensive wine cellar features Napa Valley vintners and Italian varietals.

Diner Reviews
  • "Lunch (brunch) menu was a little limited for this price bracket. However, what selections we had were scrumptious."

  • "We had booked reservations well in advance and arrived on time but had to wait an additional 30 minutes to get our table. We were seated outside which we requested. It is a very nice atmosphere and because it is outside, it wasn't as noisy. The food was fantastic, we had crostini with fresh mozzarella and heirloom tomato which was awesome. The main dishes were well prepared and very tasteful. We did have one issue. The sommelier suggested a wine after we gave him our preferences. The wine list showed it was a 2009. We didn't initially notice that we received a 2011. After bringing this to his attention, he very politely removed this from our bill at the end although we did not make a fuss about it. This was very nice."

  • "As we arrived to Tra Vigne we found it tough to find parking overall it was a pleasant experience. Our waiter sang to us in his beautiful Sinatra like voice. Out of all the dishes my gfs and I tasted we highly recommend the short ribs. Heaven!!! I would definitely come again but sit in the patio under the lit trees."

  • "This is a lovely Italian restaurant with old world charm. The outdoor patio area is beautiful and cozy with overhanging lighted trees, water fountain, rustic wall, etc. The service is excellent and you are allowed to proceed at your own pace. The home made mozzarella appetizer is not to be missed. The home made pasta with rabbit ragout and the beef short rib entrees were wonderful. This is clearly a place that locals also come for a Friday night outing, and the combination of great food and wine with outstanding ambiance makes for a memorable evening."

  • "We were visiting wineries in Calistoga/St. Helena area. Had not been to Tra Vigne in many years. Enjoyed our meal immensely. Had a wonderful table outside. Perfect and delicious way to end our day in the wine country."

  • "Amazing place great food, great service our waiter was kind enough to comp the corkage fee upon learning it was our 10th anniversary and we were sharing special wines that had special meaning to us"

  • "The evening was cool and we sat outside. Even had to turn on the heater later. My wife and I were joined by friends and we enjoyed the food. The short ribs were tender, fall off the bone. My wife had the pasta (can't remember the name) with the lamb pieces and wine sauce - it was fantastic! Full of favors. We started with the mozzarella cheese al minuto. Fun appetizer, nice kind of smokey flavor. Had been recommended to us by friends. The wine list was quite extensive, but very, very pricey. The whole menu is also available at the bar."

  • "We came here for my wife's 50th birthday. The modzerlella starter is to die for. The enviornment and service was awesome. The food was also very good. We both had the chicken and we both loved it. I highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out. We had a great time."

  • "tra vigne never fails to impress. as a local that has dined at tra vigne countless times, we most recently went with out of town guests and everyone was thrilled with their meal. from the fresh, still warm mozzarella to the smoky carbonara, each dish was delicious. the staff was attentive, friendly and accommodating, as usual. highly recommend!"

  • "We arrived 45 mins. early for our reservation but were still seated in 15 minutes. Our dinner and service was perfect- everything was great. The lamb/pasta dish was well-seasoned as was the asparagus and cheese-filled ravioli, preceded by delicious mozzarella on toast and carpaccio. Our waiter did a wonderful job. The outdoor area is quiet and romantic, overlooking a plaza=like patio. All was very good. It is a little pricey, but well worth it."

  • "We had a wonderful dinner here and started with their mozzarella al minute appetizer. It was the best we have ever had. I had the pork tenderloin and Andy had the halibut. Both were terrific. We went back two days later and had the mozzarella appetizer for lunch! Not to be missed"

  • "Always LOVE Tra Vigne! The house made mozzarella is superb as is everything on the menu. Our server said that there were no specials, but that EVERYTHING was special, she was right!! Oh, and don't forget the strawberry shortcake - we ended up fighting over it ... in a polite and genteel way, of course!"

  • "This dining establishment offers it all . . . from their large parking lot to the stunning ambience (inside & out) to the entire waitstaff, beautiful full bar and most of all, fantastic food at reasonable prices. An incredible appetizer is the fresh and creamy Mozzarella "Al Minuto" lightly grilled bruschetta (4 large pieces) drizzled with Napa Valley olive oil & served table side ($14) you'll look at your dining guest(s) and wonder (and trust me, they will too) if getting a second order would be too much (wink) The Halibut in a lemon caper & white wine reduction with mixed pea shoots ($28) was Crazy Good. The creamy risotto with duck leg ($25) was simply Outrageous. One of the best overall restaurants in the Napa Valley, hands down."

  • "Best experience to start our short Napa Valley visit, a wonderful delicious dinner coupled with a great tasting white...from the reservation, to finding a great table outside in the court yard, to a most knowledgeable and polite waiter to the oven baked fish or seafood special dish my friend enjoyed - all was magical and set the tone for our trip. Would highly recommend Tra Vigne to anyone that wants to enjoy great food, ambience, service and wine selection second to none... of course it is most well known restaurant in Napa Valley.... It is as fantastic now as it was 16 years ago when I ate my first dinner there..."

  • "Tra Vigne is still one of the best restaurants in the Napa Valley. The food has a distinctive flavor from the wood grill. The rabbit ragu is outstanding. We keep going back year after year and are never disappointed. Top notch."

  • "From the moment you walk through the doors to this beautiful restaurant, you feel the spirit and charming ambience. The staff are all cheerful and professional, and the food was delicious. A very nice way to cap off a day in picturesque Napa Valley...and you won't spend a fortune!"

  • "We had been looking forward to a "Steak for Two" entre , but there were some issues and it wasn't available:-( We were disappointed until we started enjoying our two entres , the back ribs and pork tenderloin . They were both outstanding! Also on Monday's they have some very good wines at half price so we had a $150 bottle for $75... The noise level is prefect , very unusual. Overall we will be back here often. Jack"

  • "We have been coming for years and always find it be fresh and charming and completely satisfying. Patio dining in the evening is perfectly magical. Service is impeccable. And year after year the food remains interesting, delightful and simply wonderful. Every visit is a return to Italy in all it's glory."

  • "The mozarella starter was a big hit. Our group had a salad, shared a whole brick oven roasted fish and had a pasta dish. All good."

  • "We felt rushed in, and it was early ! They did'nt even look up at us. We were given the table outside, that was the furthest away, near a wall. The seats were very hard. Then we asked to be moved , they seemed very disturbed by this request, even though it was empty at the time. The table was small and the food was crammed on the table. When I was served the Whole Fish, the waiter stated that he should really be tipped a Twenty, for deboning the fish. I found the staff to be very unfriendly ! I did not feel comfortable at all, in this restaurant . Very snobbish ! Food was Okay !"

  • "While there's nearly no such thing as a bad meal in the Napa Valley, some places soar above. Tra Vigne is one of them. We had the most relaxing, awesome Sunday afternoon meal that was heaven, beginning with a caprese salad we assembled ourselves and ending with a death-sentence panacotta. Every molecule of that meal was fresh, vibrant, and tasty. The 2011 Frank Family cab (unbelievably available by the glass) was so good we ended up buying a case from the winery after we got home. The little garden area near the restaurant entrance was charming and perfect for a stroll afterwards. We aren't that far away and will soon return -- with Michigan guests in tow who are in for a big treat."

  • "Went to Napa for a getaway weekend and dined here with my husband after a day of relaxation in Napa. I had been here before many years ago but it was my husbad's first time and we loved our dinner. The service and food were excellent and it was not expensive for the two of us! We started with the mozzarella cheese appetizer, and it was excellent. My husband raved about the pasta carbonara and I really enjoyed my ravioli. All pastas here are home made and it was lovely! We will definitely be returning!"

  • "Tra Vigne is our favorite restaurant in Napa Valley because the food and service has been consistently good for over 20 years. The wine selection is outstanding!"

  • "Gorgeous fountain is wonderful in a beautiful courtyard. Sipping a cinnamon trimmed glass of Drop de Cello and wonderful wait staff make it relaxing. Eating indoors on a hot afternoon is suggested. No fans or mist system to make patrons or the formally dressed staff more comfortable. Most of the menu items were delightful! Corn Chowder was the choice favorite of our group. No to the Tagliatelle Nero, too fishy! Tra Vigne is a place to stop if you love gourmet Italian style meals. If on a budget, try a menu item from each section of the full menu and share."

  • "We've been coming here for 25 years and this may have been the best meal here yet! So happy that they have kept up the quality of food. One special treat was the level of service. Everyone worked as a team and performed a flawless service. Looking forward to coming back soon!"

  • "Fresh mozzarella appetizer, wine, any entree & butterscotch panna cotta for dessert. Nothing else to say except, what are you waiting for?"
    Dined on 8/1/2014
  • " Fabulous pastas - I especially love the sage-infused pappardelle with the rabbit ragu. All of their pasta is silky-tender: nothing heavy nor too cheesy. Speaking of cheese, their mozzarella al minute appetizer is wildly popular for good reason - tender, fresh, house-made mozzarella hand stretched at the table, served on nicely garlicky crostini. Order some heirloom tomatoes or pardon peppers to go with it if you're there in summer."
