A word from TQLA Houston
TQLA celebrates the heritage and flavors of Southwestern and Coastal Mexican cooking by combining the freshest ingredients with a fun and energetic atmosphere. When you first walk into the restaurant you will notice the local artisan pieces incorporated into the decor such as the Tequila bottle tiki torches, the inviting glow of the "worm" bar, the turbulent flow of the dining room ceiling mesh sculpture and the backlit sunset casting a welcoming light on the semi-private dining space.

TQLA’s name pays homage to one of the fastest growing spirits in the world. Tequilas and Mezcals can be enjoyed much like any fine wine or single malt Scotch. With complex flavors and undertones present, there is much more than meets the eye. Our master mixologists use their knowledge of our vast selections to make some of the finest infusions, cocktails and martinis in Houston.

We went there because we've never been there before, got there and it was busy, parked in the parking lot behind the building, which is free for the first 2 hours so that's nice. Service was really good to our surprise but the food was even better. The misses and I shared the fajitas, and I must say the beef fajitas was probably the best I've had.

We had 45 minutes to eat before we had to leave to catch a show, and it was accomplished with time to spare. The server made sure that it happened and was friendly and service oriented as best could be imagined. The food was tasty, and I would definitely go back again. The drinks were tasty as well and more choices on tequila drinks than most. Free parking was a convenient plus as well.

  • Poor Service & a Fire Alarm
    Phoenix
    Dined on 3/21/2014
Great Food but according to our waiter one server didn't show up and another was fired that evening. On a Friday night, this restaurant needs a full staff of servers and bus personnel. The fire alarm (which we were told was a kid pulling a prank) did nothing to help the "ambience". No sound absorbing material and hard walls makes for a cacophony of sounds and at times hard to talk too your dinner partner across the table. Lots of Tequila offerings... the Ultimate Marguerita was the favorite drink. Great salsa's (watch out for the mango habanero) and very tasty food... I'd go back, but I'd leave quickly if it looked like wait staff was a problem.

We had the crab cakes, crawfish hushpuppies, tortilla soup and fajitas. To start off the chips an salsa we good, the red salsa was spicy with a hint of sweetness, i don't remember the salsa verde being much more than just spicy. The crab cakes were tasty. They had a good amount of crab and it tasted fresh. They were a little overcooked for my liking, but they were still good. Also, quite spicy. The hush puppies were surprisingly good. Spicy and sweet with a touch of honey; very well balanced. While everything was flavorful, it was also unnecessarily and abrasively spicy. The fajitas were quite delicious. The soup was pretty awful. It seemed as though they threw everything in the soup but the kitchen sink; very incohesive.

The draw is definitely the bar/drinks/tequila. The food was erratic- guacamole was outstanding while one dish we were finding large chunks of inedible bay leaves. The service was very good with the waiter offering suggestions, but seemed that he had too many tables as he left us for long stretches. OVerall, still a great place and we would go back!

We enjoyed this restaurant. The food was excellent and with a little different twist for Mexican, e.g., crawfish and spinach enchiladas. The host and waitress were great! very knowledgeable and helpful. The food was cooked well, but the flavor was lacking, everything seemed muted. The BBQ duck tamale tasted like poultry w/ mole. The carnitas fajitas was just a chunk of roasted pork shoulder, no flavor. You can't really screw up black beans and rice. The tortillas were fresh and good, salsa was great. I would go back, I just would not order what w had on that visit. It was a Sunday night, so maybe the regular chef had taken off for the day.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 8/14/2013
Table was located right underneath an A/C vent, we asked to move and the server punished us for the rest of the dinner. Everything was an extreme wait, it literally got to the point where we were prepared to go order at the bar, when the server finally took our orders. Scared to not see the server again, we ordered appetizer and dinner at the same time, and enjoyed our meal. The food was good, ambience was nice, had heard great things about the place and certainly could see how others could've had a positive experience, but we certainly didn't. We really wanted to have dessert but after waiting on EVERYTHING all night, we went to another restaurant to finish our meal. That's the thing about Houston, where one place falters, another doesn't.

Fabulous food at this new Heights restaurant. Fantastic service, drinks, food...nice space...the place is fresh and new. Only downside is the music is just a bit too clubby for a meal here...makes you feel like you're in a nightclub, which would be fine if it were late at night and that's what we came for, but during dinner, they need to rethink the music and play some jazz or some brazilian music, or something just lighter...the heavy rock was just not a good fit. Food though was fantastic...everyone declared their dish a winner. Lots of fresh ingredients...vegetable enchiladas were amazingly good!
