  • "Wanted a stiff drink and a decent burger, got neither. Poorly setup restaurant with a mediocre food selection. Was all edible, just not very good."

  • "Never disappointed when I eat there. Nice choices without having a huge menu. The specials are always worth considering but with a great pulled pork or the tacos it's hard to pass up the regular menu choices."

  • "We were seated by the door. It was difficult to talk when people standing and waiting (for a table) right next to you. The girl's hair literally touching my shoulder."

  • "Polenta sticks yummy and different. Mac and cheese quinoa really good."

  • "Food & service always meet my expectations. But, I would not recommend for lunch meetings!! Too loud!"

  • "I've had great meals at Townhouse, but lunch this week was a disappointment. The quinoa "special" entree with chicken had clearly been sitting on the stove too long, and was mushy. Hope this was unusual, and not a trend."

  • "One of our party ordered Lobster Mac and Cheese - this person felt like her dish was not real lobster but instead crawfish. She left more than half of her meal. One of our party ordered Linquini and Calamari - this person felt like it was way too lemony. One of our party iordered the salad with the turkey - this person felt the salad was average. Two of our party ordered panacotta for desert and both felt like their desert was swimming in sauce and could nopt really taste the panacotta. The third person ordered gelato and felt it was good. This was a business lunch and due to the food content was a little embarassing. Our company will not be reserving at the Townhouse again."

  • "Overall, our dinner here wasn't too bad. Beer selection was decent. Food wasn't too bad as we only had apps (2 rounds). The first round of apps was cold, ICE COLD. The second round showed up after half our party had to leave, 45m after ordering and asking about where it was 2x. The servers, when they showed up, were pleasant. Another drawback was the place was tough for conversation; it was so loud we felt like we were screaming over the noise, on a Tuesday evening."

  • "Yes it's Chicago and yes it's lunch with a client- but the appetizer I selected was more expensive than some of the entre's! I figured 3oz of scallops was good- nope- I think it was 2 scallops barely spread over 3 tortillas!!! For $16!!!! The staff, the restaurant everything else was great- the pricing was truly- let's take advantage of the fact we are serving downtown Chicago. I probably wouldn't have been disappointed if the portion size was better."

  • "Prior to attending a performance at the Lyric Opera, my wife and I decided to visit the Townhouse. Our experience was underwhelming. We started with drinks, a local microbrew for me and "the gourmet". First thing that struck us was not salted caramel rim. Then one sip and it tasted more like Robitussin with no hint of anything resembling chocolate or caramel. Lamb sliders and pretzel crab cake (we also ordered fries). The fries where about the quality of McDonalds, the Lamb Sliders were ok. The enigma was the pretzel crab cake which did not have a trace of pretzel (and we kept looking). Not served on a pretzel bun, not a pretzel crust, maybe it was pretzel instead of breadcrumbs but that was hard to distinguish. Server did not seem to care."

  • "The service is horrible 75% of the time. They take forever to get to your table. At lunch this is really difficult as most people need to be back in the office in one hour."

  • "In fact the noise level was more than energetic. It really interfered with my dining experience"

  • "THE PLACE is very convenient for after work dinner or before theater dining. Food is good and drinks have variety for all tastes. As long as you do not expect to have a conversation. The place is way too noisy and everyone is shouting on top of their lungs. Great place for non-communiicating outing."

  • "my friend & I shared the house burger & spinach salad & both were delicious & plentiful. Was there last week for a business lunch & had the tuna nicoise salad - also wonderful & enough leftover for dinner. Great service w/o being cloying. would go back anytime."

  • "Good flavors, nice presentation. Portion size adequate for hungry diner's (even the small plates). Well rounded selection of small to large plates sure to please even the most finicky. Best if you are on an expense account. I'll be back the next time I need to entertain clients for lunch."

  • "I used to like the service here and that was almost the only redeeming thing about this place. The food is salty or bland. I can't bring myself to come here more than once a year. Definitely too expensive for what you get."

  • "The menu is limited and never changing. I belong to the frequent diners and they have never gotten the right points. I would make this a MISS"

  • "I had the Townhouse burger (grass fed beef) and it was awesome! There is a sauce on the burger, not sure what it is, but it has a fab taste. And of course the sweet potato fries. YUM!!"

  • "The Food is very good - Menu changed from my last visit 6 months ago - which is good. I like restaurants that change with the seasons and/or periodically. Great place for a business lunch or a date during the day."

  • "Townhouse is ideally situated for the business lunch crowd wanting a full service experience. I ordered the pork sandwich which was not lender as the menu suggests, nor was it hot. I certainty will visit again and will try once more as the staff was very pleasant."

  • "Tried this place for Restaurant Week since the menu looked promising (components of each dish seemed well thought out & balanced in flavor), but I suppose not all food that sounds good on paper tastes good. The starter, indicated as a SCALLOP dish, was actually a large bowl of hot sunchoke puree "soup" with a few small scallops, 3 grapefruit segments, and a sprinkle of napa cabbage as garnish on top. It was a bit salty, which made any sunchoke flavor indistinguishable, but still edible thanks to the acidic grapefruit. The duck breast in the entree tasted alright with good seasoning, but the quinoa had an oily charred aftertaste and the (obviously canned) cranberry reduction tasted like cherry cough syrup. Dessert & service were both decent."

  • "I would really like this restaurant if the food was even remotely good. The service is great but they need to change out their kitchen staff. A place like this really deserves to have much better food."

  • "This place is convenient for many who work in the Loop, but the convenience has a downfall. The place gets crowded quickly and reservations for ideal lunching times book up quickly. The lunch crowd can be loud, but perhaps its the building itself that allows for hard of hearing with the high ceilings and such. Overall a snazzy place to dine and perhaps even impress a client."

  • "Made a review on open table. Got to the restaurant and were seated fairly promptly. Was bustling and loud on a Friday night. (Very loud.) Ordered drinks and received them w/n 10min, which was good, but after we got them our waitress didn't check back with us for 20 minutes. When she did check back our drinks were gone & she asked if we wanted another round. Somehow she must have had the impression we were not eating, which was strange since we made a reservation. We almost did not stay to eat because of the poor service from the get-go. However, once we initiated an order and placed it everything else went smoothly. The food was good but not great, and slightly overpriced for the portions. Wouldn't go back for dinner."

  • "Reliable sit down option in the loop for lunch. Menu is diverse enough to be interesting and they have a few specials for those of us who have worked their way through the whole menu. It gets crowded at lunch so a reservation is a must if you want a noon time table. the table are very close together and at lunch it is pretty loud but other than that, great reliable lunch place."

  • "Noise level made it hard to talk. Service was not great. Sat near the front door which people kept leaving open and restaurant staff did not seem to care to help keep it closed!"

  • "I always enjoy the food here and the service is consistently good. We were seated near the window, which wasn't the best choice. The restaurant has very high ceilings, so the heat doesn't circulate well. The seating near hte windows was exceptionally cold. My guest and I also noticed the noise level as being exceptionally high. I'll go back, but will try to figure out a different seating spot."

  • "We were looking for a before-theatre spot, and found when we walked in that it's the after-work hangout for the financial district. The ambiance made it tough to enjoy the food. I had the jambalaya and it was fine. The wine list isn't extensive, but it works. I'd just say that you need to know where you're going and then you won't be too disappointed."

  • "Met a couple of friends here for dinner - they live in the city, I live in a far suburb. We chose it based on proximity to Union Station. One friend had the lobster mac, the other and I both had the Townhouse burger. The burgers were good - cooked correctly, interesting flavor combos - I would have it again. My first friend's lobster mac however, appeared dry and the lobster had a different taste than expected - fishy, yet processed- I would not suggest that dish. Drinks were reasonable (for the Loop, at least) and had a bit of a quick - the drink concoctions were also creative, which is nice. However, service left much to be desired. Yes, it was busy, being a Tuesday after 5p, but I don't care. Get it together, that's the job."

  • "Food was very good. Service excellent. We were going to the opera and the wait staff paid close attention to the timing. A vibrant, bar atmosphere, it was loud (happy hour) but we could converse without shouting. Hamburger and turkey burger really delicious. Unusual pre- opera dining experience. I'd go back."

  • "The one item on the menu that I wanted to order, they were sold out of. However, the waitress only told us that after I tried to order it, although she had stopped by the table 2-3 times to see if we were ready (was catching up with an old friend so ordering was not on our priority right away)."

  • "Was seated a table right next to the door at a high boy even though I had a reservation for lunch and it was a little chilly. Food was good but not great. Ordered the quinoa bowl which was interesting, had good flavor and was good for me as I have celiac disease and the option for gluten free items on the menu was a bit limited. Waiter was attentive and overall it was a good experience."
