Service was fantastic and atmosphere was great. Would have liked a little more options for vegetarians, especially entree wise. The cheif however was accommodating and created a delicous entree. A less adventurous person probably wouldnt enjoy going that route and would've ended up ordering a boring salad. My meat eating collegues love the food.

The web site shows upscale decor and formal dining. The actual is more like a family style informal restaurant. Very loud and difficult to hold conversation - especially for older guests or any with reduced hearing. There are many better places to dine in Boston. We would not return.

It's my sixth time at Towne. Might have been an off night, since the previous five were outstanding. This Saturday evening the upstairs was 2/3 full, the bars downstairs likewise. Service was slow. A more experienced server had to help out or we would still be there. Tomato salad- small, tasty. Caeser Salad- don't bother. It was a party for a food processor- more like confetti than salad. Oysters were perfect. Bar was capable. My flatiron steak was over over salted. The bass got a good report. Cotton Candy for desert was a $6 spool of exactly what you get at the circus. Fun, but out of place. I think Towne has changed to a more current trend- lower prices, smaller portions.

My wife and I decided to take advantage of Dine Out Boston to try Towne Stove and Spirits. It proved a good choice. Our server was pleasant, well informed and efficient. The fixed price menu offered a variety of interesting choices. My wife's choice for a pre dinner cocktail was complicated, but the server was patient & got it right. Our meals were excellent and served in a timely manner without any sense of being rushed. The lobster popover starter was especially delicious. It was full of lobster with a light Golden Syrup. The restaurant is attractive. There's construction next door which blocks the view and we went on Sunday so there was no activity. It might be noisy during the day. We will be back to try the full menu.

The food was great. We went for restaurant week. Tuna tartar with avocado appetizer was the best. Lobster popover was good but I hope for $16 on menue they serve several. Salad had lots of excellent feta. Peach gnocchi was interesting but too sweet for a meal. Short rib was nicely cooked & taste. Choc dessert was perfect end.key Lime mousse was interesting if you like that type of flavor. Tart. Flavorful

Went during Dine Out Boston and this restaurant did not gain a new customer. Breadsticks and accompaniments which were free although I had to ask for them were great. And the dessert was excellent. Everything in between was too salty...and I am usually the one asking for a salt shaker. The vegetables were uninspired. I expect more from a Lydia Shire kitchen than completely plain vegetables a child could prepare. The only reason I knew the corn chowder didn't come from a can was that it was so salty. I took the short ribs bourguignon home to see if I can salvage this great cut of beef. Add the hostess in short shorts and, well, just not what I was expecting.

We ate at Towne recently to celebrate our anniversary. The reason we picked Towne was because the menu appealed to us. We were not disappointed. We both enjoyed both the appetizers and meals, although my husband thought the prime rib was a little tougher than some he has had. The restaurant was fairly empty for a Saturday night, but we attribute that to the fact that is was a nice summer night and Towne is at the Hynes Convention Center, not on the waterfront. Our waitress, could not have been nicer or more helpful. All being said, we would recommend and return to Towne.

Ordered the Whole Firewood Smoked Bass and Aged Bone-in Rib-eye. Food was excellent. Decor was sophisticated. Service was classically trained and for once I was not handed a check afterwards with the assumption that I did not want desert, because I did. Soft chocolate cake with burnt sugar ice cream to be exact. Starter was the only thing that didn't work for me because the combination of honey and lobster in a popover read better then it tasted. There was absolutely nothing wrong in which the way it was prepared or its freshness. The lobster was delicate and sweet and my assumption is the honey was to play off of that sweetness to enhance it however for me personally it translated to the honey overpowering the dish.

We went there for our anniversary on a slow Monday night. Most of the other Boylston Street restaurants were abuzz with World Cup; Towne was very much removed. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was good, but not great. I was surprised that there were no condiments on table or offered - we had to ask. For what we were looking for - a little quiet and privacy - Towne fit the bill.

As a caveat, we arrived late to our reservation, about 20 minutes, due to traffic on Mass Pike, but we called restaurant from road to say we'd be late, and was told it was Ok. We were sat immediately, which was great. Place was pretty crowded. We got water, but that was it. 20 minutes, no attention. Saw some other tables seemingly having the same problem, and one of our diners asked and confirmed same. We had a show to attend later, and our group of 8 made call to leave due to fear we'd be there for hours. Disappointing and embarrassing for me, as I had chosen the restaurant and made arrangements. I had eaten here before and had good meals with decent service, but this was awful.

Food was great! Service was not as great. Server was really nice, but we ordered 8 oysters and got 20. As nice as it was we couldn't eat all of them and it's not what we ordered. I asked for the Can on tap and got the bottled Cab. Asked for chicken pizza and got the chicken entree. Server did ask if I wanted to have the pizza instead but I insisted on keeping what I got, hate to waste food, but again not what I ordered. I ended up boxing the rest, the next day I went to have he left overs and only had half of what was left on my plate. Polenta and veggies wernt there just the chicken. What happened to the other half of my meal!?

Celebrated my wife's birthday at Towne. The upstairs dining room was quiet, yet we were able to look out over the outside crowd and the busy kitchen (but there is a glass wall so it is not noisy). Excellent service. Food was terrific. Lobster popovers are a must. The special shrimp dumplings in a miso broth were also a treat. Main course of salmon and fried zucchini was terrific as was the steak frittes. Warm chocolate cake with burnt sugar ice cream and a key lime mousse ended a satisfying meal. Will definitely return.

Very convenient if you are looking for an alternate restaurant by the prudential. Service was slow, as there seemed to be lack of staff on a Sunday, and when brunch came, it was so so. The manager and not wait staff ended up taking our order. Utensils were 'spotty' as if they weren't wiped or dried properly after wash. If we sat outside, you'd get a nice view of Boylston and 'people watching' but it was quite cold that afternoon so we opted to sit inside.
