  • "Ordered the Whole Firewood Smoked Bass and Aged Bone-in Rib-eye. Food was excellent. Decor was sophisticated. Service was classically trained and for once I was not handed a check afterwards with the assumption that I did not want desert, because I did. Soft chocolate cake with burnt sugar ice cream to be exact. Starter was the only thing that didn't work for me because the combination of honey and lobster in a popover read better then it tasted. There was absolutely nothing wrong in which the way it was prepared or its freshness. The lobster was delicate and sweet and my assumption is the honey was to play off of that sweetness to enhance it however for me personally it translated to the honey overpowering the dish."

  • "We went there for our anniversary on a slow Monday night. Most of the other Boylston Street restaurants were abuzz with World Cup; Towne was very much removed. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was good, but not great. I was surprised that there were no condiments on table or offered - we had to ask. For what we were looking for - a little quiet and privacy - Towne fit the bill."

  • "As a caveat, we arrived late to our reservation, about 20 minutes, due to traffic on Mass Pike, but we called restaurant from road to say we'd be late, and was told it was Ok. We were sat immediately, which was great. Place was pretty crowded. We got water, but that was it. 20 minutes, no attention. Saw some other tables seemingly having the same problem, and one of our diners asked and confirmed same. We had a show to attend later, and our group of 8 made call to leave due to fear we'd be there for hours. Disappointing and embarrassing for me, as I had chosen the restaurant and made arrangements. I had eaten here before and had good meals with decent service, but this was awful."

  • "Food was great! Service was not as great. Server was really nice, but we ordered 8 oysters and got 20. As nice as it was we couldn't eat all of them and it's not what we ordered. I asked for the Can on tap and got the bottled Cab. Asked for chicken pizza and got the chicken entree. Server did ask if I wanted to have the pizza instead but I insisted on keeping what I got, hate to waste food, but again not what I ordered. I ended up boxing the rest, the next day I went to have he left overs and only had half of what was left on my plate. Polenta and veggies wernt there just the chicken. What happened to the other half of my meal!?"

  • "Celebrated my wife's birthday at Towne. The upstairs dining room was quiet, yet we were able to look out over the outside crowd and the busy kitchen (but there is a glass wall so it is not noisy). Excellent service. Food was terrific. Lobster popovers are a must. The special shrimp dumplings in a miso broth were also a treat. Main course of salmon and fried zucchini was terrific as was the steak frittes. Warm chocolate cake with burnt sugar ice cream and a key lime mousse ended a satisfying meal. Will definitely return."

  • "This was my second visit to this restaurant and probably my last. Service was inconsistent. We had reservations but had to wait longer for a table than expected. The hostess was very pleasant, but our waitress seemed a bit spacey, almost as if she didn't want to work that day. The food was ok, but my daughter's pancakes were not cooked completely. She had eaten one of three before discovering this. When she sent them back, guess what came back? Yep two pancakes! - which was fine but really?"

  • "Very convenient if you are looking for an alternate restaurant by the prudential. Service was slow, as there seemed to be lack of staff on a Sunday, and when brunch came, it was so so. The manager and not wait staff ended up taking our order. Utensils were 'spotty' as if they weren't wiped or dried properly after wash. If we sat outside, you'd get a nice view of Boylston and 'people watching' but it was quite cold that afternoon so we opted to sit inside."

  • "We went for a late brunch after a college graduation. The food was good and fresh but the menu was limited to mostly egg dishes and a few sandwiches. Also, they don't offer dessert during brunch. The drinks were excellent. I would go back but not for brunch."

  • "Our party of 4 enjoyed our experience at Towne Stove and Spirits. We had dinner on a lively Friday night at 8 PM and were pleased that, although we were 15 minutes early for our reservation, we were seated right away. Our server was excellent. The menu, although pricey, offered small plates and pizza as well as more expensive entrees. 2 of us had pizza and 2 had entrees ( a haddock special and the salmon from the menu), as well as accompanying salads, sides & great oysters. All felt that their selections were tasty and well prepared. We had chosen this restaurant because of its location and a friend's recommendation, as we were only visiting Boston for one night, and we were completely satisfied with our choice. "

  • "Selected Towne for a 4-person get together on a Monday night for location, and had seen some good reviews of it. The restaurant is quite large, and the noise level - even though it wasn't full - was virtually unbearable. We were practically yelling at each other to talk. "Energetic" does not describe how hard it is to hear at the table. It was really unfortunate: the food was very good. Chicken was excellent, and portion enough for 2. Service was very attentive, and friendly, and not overbearing. I'd go back, but only if I was not planning on meeting at 7pm/prime time. "

  • "I had heard very good things about Towne Stove and Spirits from friends and checked out the menu online prior to visiting. My companion's meal, a chicken dish, was very good; mine.... I'm not so sure. I ordered the osso bucco and it was fattier than I anticipated. Otherwise it was really flavorful. We split a strawberry rhubarb tart which was quite good. I hadn't expected the restaurant to be so noisy. I don't mind a lively atmosphere, but when you have to strain to hear your dinner companion... well, I hadn't expected that type of setting. If I do recommend the restaurant to anyone I would make sure that's the type of atmosphere they're looking for."

  • "Overall, the experience was great. The food was amazing. The Sangria was fabulous. When the restaurant found out it was our anniversary, they gave us complimentary cotton candy. However, I had requested to sit with a view of the open kitchen. This request was ignored. I later found out that the upstairs seating was closed, but I would have been happier if this had been explained upon arrival. Also, the server was not well educated on the restaurant's drinks. My husband ordered a gin fizz. Although the drink he received was good, it was not a traditional gin fizz. The server openly admitted that the bar tender had never heard of the drink and had to look it up. I ordered ice wine after dinner, which the server was unaware they carried."

  • "This new restaurant on Boylston Street is hip, elegant with a vibe. We're an "older couple" and though most of the patrons were 20-30 somethings we enjoyed the energy of the place. Food was terrific, service was friendly. But you have to enjoy LOUD - by 9 p.m. it was hard to hear the person across the table. Definitely would return, though I imagine in the summer it will be very crowde."

  • "Very large restaurant. Menu looked interesting but when food came out it wasn't...Kale salad had way too much vinegar and maki rolls bland. Waiting 30-45 minutes after appetizers for main course and were starting. Not sure what happened in the kitchen but the table next to us ordered at the same time and waited about the same amount of time as us. Once our food came out it was well prepared, whole sea bass but still didn't make up for bland appetizers and the bad timing of the food. Won't go back again."

  • "In the heart of Boston by the Prudential Center Restaurantier,Lydia Shire, has created a fabulous eatery at Towne. With executive chef Mark Alan at the realm the palate is never disappointed. For an appetizer try the Maki roll. Absolutely delicious and a good item to share for two. The monkfish with the fingerling potatoes and carrots melted in your mouth. The salmon nestled on top of a bed of spinach was equally superb. Both entrees were cooked to perfection. The food keeps getting better and better."

  • "I'd been to Towne before, and loved the bar menu for a quick bite. The dinner offered up for Restaurant Week though, was disappointing. I had the Wonton Soup, which had broth like liquid salt, and the texture of the wontons was too chewy. The sole I had for the main course was much better, but nothing exciting. For dessert, coconut, almond, and sorbet, which was quite good. The highlight of my dinner was actually the cocktail I ordered. I can't remember the exact name, but it was gin and thyme, with a name like "Just in Thyme" or "Out of Thyme." It's a nice place to have dinner with a friend, but there's nothing special here in terms of food."

  • "I used to love Towne for brunch - they had an awesome menu with good portions etc. This weekend I went with some friends in town from NY and told them how great it was, however they rolled out a new menu on this Saturday apparently. The food took a really long time to come out. The server kept repeating "they rolled out a new menu today." The portion sizes weren't great and the new menu choices weren't either. Such a bummer I really used to love this place for brunch!"

We were seated upstairs and it was lovely! It was a little more quiet than the downstairs dining area and not as dark.
