A word from Town
"Local first, organic whenever possible, and with Aloha always" is the mantra upon which this unpretentious neighborhood bistro was founded. With a menu that changes daily to reflect the freshest market ingredients, Town features hand-cut pastas and gnocchi, slow-braised meats, fresh local seafood, a wine list of small artisan producers, and hand-crafted cocktails. Drawing inspiration from classic recipes of the Mediterranean, Town's cuisine is best described as Contemporary American with an Italian sensibility, where the ingredients are allowed to shine and nothing is wasted. With bar and "dog-friendly" patio seating reserved for walk-in guests, the restaurant has become a favorite for casual impromptu dining as well as for special occasions. Town is located in hip Kaimuki, just minutes from Waikiki, and is loved by locals and visitors alike. Go to Town.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We definitely enjoyed our dining experience at Town. The food was tasty and prices were fair. The staffers were prompt, attentive, and seemed to enjoy interaction with their customers. The menu was easy to navigate and they don't try to be over the top w/ too many offerings. Chef Alika Chung has focused on doing more with less. Looking around, I gathered we were likely the only mainland tourists in the place, which made me appreciate everything more. I would definitely return on my next visit to the city. "

  • "Town is always a great dining experience. We have eaten here 4 or 5 times and also pay a visit when we are in Honolulu. The food is fresh, interesting and delicious!"

  • "I took a family group of ten and perhaps that explains the service. When the food finally arrived it was delicious! "

  • "Our host was gracious to us in welcoming us with a friendly manner despite our arrival 20 minutes after our scheduled reservation. Our waiter, Ally, enjoyed accommodating my grandmother in recommending a light dish and she described multiple dishes and appetizers quickly and accurately after we shot out several questions. Atmosphere was energetic, yet intimate within our table space, preparation speed for our dishes was fitting, and the dishes themselves had a unique local component. Aloha connects for each other and the food we eat connects us all in this place. "

  • "We enjoy bringing newcomers to Town and watching their enjoyment and surprise at the amazing food! The housemade pickles, sausage, cheese, gnocchi, pasta, all are delicious and impressive. We were greeted like old friends and service was warm and accommodating and efficient, even for the diner who was gluten and dairy free. She found there was a lot on the menu for her to enjoy safely."

  • "Transport Town to the vibrant Williamsburg, Brooklyn food scene and you get a solid 3 star restaurant. Start with their signature Ahi Risotto cakes and share some unbelievable gnocchi but save room for any of their fish dishes. None come swimming in broth but are some complex you just want more. Awesome waitstaff b"

  • "Great food served very slowly as usual. We will return patiently. We noticed more servers this time."

  • "Appetizers excellent. Bread excellent. House white wine was excellent."

  • "ALL of the food at town was amazing! Kabocha salad with almonds and goat cheese, pa'i'ai appetizer, ulu kama bruschetta, gnochi with mushrooms and last but not least, hula with fried ulu and delicious flavorful crust. We are local foodies and this dinner was the best ever! Must dine here!"

  • "We ordered all of the appetizers for dinner but none of the entrees. They were all very good, but especially the mussels. The menu changes often, so I won't go in detail on the food...but all were well executed with bright flavors that were balanced well. We also had a bottle of wine and two mixed drinks that were well made. We ended with a delicious dessert. The waitress was very attentive and never left us waiting. It was a bit noisy, but that almost made it more intimate since no one could hear our personal conversation. I do think it would be more fun for bigger groups rather than couples. I've heard their brunch is amazing, but have not had it....yet."

  • "A short cab ride from the Waikiki scene takes you to this wonderful spot. The staff were friendly and professional. The food was thoughtfully prepared from local sources. The ambiance was fun, lively and the diners were a mix of regulars and first timers. Thank you."

  • "Second time we've been to Town. Both times the food was good but not outstanding. Was surprised that the restaurant was a James Beard nominee."

  • "We took our chances seeing this online and were not dissapointed at any point during our visit. From the moment we walked in we were taken care and treated to a great dinner. We asked for a recommendation for another place on the way out--we went and it was almost as good as Town! Beat a path to this place--it's worth the walk, run, or drive."

  • "Town is a must-eat-at destination when we are on Oahu. The food is fresh, local and creatively prepared. The service is friendly and attentive. The restaurant itself can be very busy (ok) and noisy at times (not so ok) . The plates one orders also tend to be delivered at an unpredictable pace - either hurried or slow. House cocktails and menus which change daily are inventive. Excellent wine list. Mahalo : )"

  • "Excellent catch and harvest of the day choices. I ordered the scrumptious meatloaf. It was moist and flavorful, not bready. The chocolate tarte with pretzel crust was excellent, too. Oh, and I enjoyed the best margarita I've had in ages (made from scratch...no sweet & sour mix). We have to go back to town before heading home to Seattle."

  • "Delicious food: get there early (around 6pm)so you can get a gnocci dish. Fabulous wine too. Overall an excellent value."

  • "In my opinion, the quality of the food and the ever changing menu is not close to being rivaled by any other restaurant on Oahu. It's really incredible how fresh all ingredients are in addition to the unique combinations the chef uses. I'd recommend Town for people with an adventurous palate and desire for an eclectic restaurant."

  • "The food here is very new school, organic, farm-to-table. However, few places do it as well as Town. The wine list was a little soft (where are your American wines?), but also very diverse. We had a hard time finding the place, as well as parking. Bathrooms were not as nice as the rest of the place. Service was remarkable."

  • "My "go to" restaurant in Honolulu, this is a fun venue to share with friends and colleagues. The food is fresh and fabulous."

  • "The food was great and our server was knowledgeable and friendly; however, it was really loud which brought my ambiance rating down. I felt like I was competing with the loud music and other diners conversation to have a simple chat with my date. This place would make for an ideal date restaurant but the sheer loudness would cause one to hurry and get through their meal so conversation can continue elsewhere."

  • "First time visit, but always heard only positive comments. Go in with no pre-thoughts of what you want to eat... let their menu choose for you. Took a friend who went with thoughts of what she wanted - to her surprise nothing she anticipating eating was on the evening's menu, not even steamed rice. The only thing she got that she asked for was a cup of hot water. But after breaking the barrier of teaching an old dog new tricks, she settled for mushroom soup, shared a kabocha salad and black mussels, for dinner monchong with an extra side of bak choi and then shared the apple banana pie and milk and honey panacotta. As for me, had the striploin with the best french fries EVER!"

  • "Town is a great place for a relaxed, quiet dinner date. The atmosphere is perfect, not too noisy where you can carry on a conversation. The food was outstanding! I will definitely be returning soon."

  • "Great waiter. He explained the ingredients in the dishes very well. Had some different dishes that you don't find in other restaurants. Nice variety on the menu. Good blend of flavors and like the freshness of the food. Good for special occasions."

  • "I wanted to come here just based off the website for months...and it shirely did not disappoint. Get anothing with fish, especially the ahi tartar and the monchong. Simply amazing. Smaller restaurant with limited seating options, make reservations in advance. Will come back if I was on Oahu again."

  • "Best thing to do is order small plates. The ahi tuna, fried avocados and salads were excellent. All local and fresh. We split the monchong. A very nice firm white fish. Highly recommended. The cocktails are great. The gimlet and Vieux Carre are dllicious."

  • "The food was excellent but the portions seemed very small for the price. I mean, I'm not expecting steakhouse portions, but some of the dishes felt way too small like the ahi tartar and fried avacado thing."

  • "Food was generally pleasing, especially with its use of a variety of vegetables, but just not enough of anything on the plate. Next time will skip the salad because its tiny and pricey and you'll get veggies with every main dish anyway. Gnocchi with beets (limited daily servings) from pastas and ahi on tater tot thingy in appetizers were best from our order. Sword fish tasted ok but arrived with strong fishy smell (not fresh?). Hand-cut pasta was alright but would have been better with a thicker, richer sauce. Wine list was good. Server was very attentive. Reservations a must."

  • "This is saying a lot, I love Hawaii restaurants, but Town is a little edge over all my favorites. Combining amazing food with continuously excellent service and a great drink ment, Town is my go to date restaurant as well as where I take my mom."

  • "I had heard from a friend that her recent experience at Town -- a restaurant my family has been to on our every trip to Oahu in the past three years -- was not up to my recommendation. I was taken aback, but I need to agree that the food and service we had on our recent visit there were not as we remembered our past experiences. The risotto and pasta bolognese were good but not great. Our appetizer salads, the same. We didn't try desserts because the choices seemed more limited than in the past. We'll go back on our trip next year, in case this was a fluke."

  • "The food was delicious and well thought out. The service was great. The ambience was intimate and simplistic. Will be back for more!"

  • "We had to wait from 730 until 855 to get our main courses. The server offered no apologies and seemed to forget about us on a regular basis. the food was good but with some significant misteps. the Rabbit risotto with okra had essentially no rabbit, and very little okra, leaving a bowl of creamy rice which wasn't very interesting. the He'e (Octopus) was so overcooked it was hardly edible. With relatively high prices, terrible service and hit and miss food (the ahi tartar is always great), we're looking for another go-to spot. Our table was so close to the one next to us that I couldn't help but hear everything they said. Tables shouldn't be that close..."

  • "Town is reflective of so many new restaurants with a minimalist decor and hipster music. That being said the service is outstanding, friendly without the pretentious attitude often found in this style of dining. Food was beautiful and fresh. Salad had unique and flavorful lettuce and walnuts au natural. The fish was cooked perfectly and had al dente veggies accompanying. The handmade pasta had great texture and a nice ragu gave it flavor. Everything was simple but satisfying. Not overly amazing but I would return and send friends."

  • "Our evening at Town was superb. It began with a warm greeting by the hostesses, a pleasant table, and delicious wine. That was followed by astoundingly good appetizers (try the ahi tartare!) and dazzling entrees -- all served by smiling and very helpful wait staff. We couldn't have been happier with our experience."

  • "This is one of the top restaurants in honolulu. The food is exceptional. Because they only use the best, freshest ingredients, they really let the natural flavors shine rather than covering them up with sauces and dressings. They also have excellent cocktails and appropriately sized desserts. My only complaints are that the seating is not very comfortable and the place can get quite loud."

  • "I took my friends family visiting from outside of country. I wanted something different from Waikiki tourists oriented restaurantts. So it was great choice. Food was good. We found few bottles of wine which we don't see around often. Servers were all friendly with happy energy. We shared all plates, servers helped for it well. So my guests were so happy. They had hard time to read English Menu though. Little loud for conversation in a group. I will go back again. And my friend wants to go back again."

  • "Town is a great restaurant for foodies, it's located in the middle of Kaimuki and serves fresh from Hawaii productss. the only problem with this location for us was that it was too loud to have a conversation, the portion size was small. I would probably go there on rare occasions unless I was not too hungry."

  • "Though the food, especially mine, was good, the fact that we had to wait for 45 minutes for our entrees, spoiled the evening. I ordered the Breasole, and 25 minutes into our wait, when we inquired about our dinner, I was told that it takes long to prepare. I do not believe that was the issue as I saw others who were seated get the dish. My husband ordered the munchang fish, it was so salty that we had to send it back. It was only at this point that the server started to pay attention to our table. The kitchen did acknowledge the fish being overly salted and offered to replace it, but having waited as long as we had, that was not going to happen. However they did not charge for the fish as we had not eaten it. A great evening gone sour!"
