Diner Reviews
  • "This was our second dinner at Town Hall and we liked as much or more on this second trip as we did the first. Great bar and very good food! The wait staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about ingredients, food preparation, and wine. Great choice and I'd return."

  • "When you cannot hear the person next to you talk it was not enjoyable. Menu did not have enough of a verity. Came for their duck and that night they Did not have it on the menu. We had their chicken and the chicken was warm the mash potatoes were cold along with the gravy. Would not go back."

  • "I appreciated our waiter taking time to stop by and chat about food and drink choices in a very relaxed manner even though we could see that he was serving several tables...food is always very interesting...and well priced"

  • "We went as a family to dinner here and were pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent, the service was good too. It was very noisy and somewhat hard to hear each other, but overall a vibrant place to go."

  • "This was a wonderful dining experience. The menu changes often so not all food items shown on the website were available that night but there were plenty of other options. The entree portions were large and nicely presented. We also tried a few of the side dishes including the jalapeño cornbread that is served In a small cast iron pan. The room was very noisy with diners enjoying themselves. This would not be a good place to go for a quiet dinner especially if you were hard of hearing. People were dressed from suit and ties to Giants jerseys as we went for dinner at 7 after Opening Day at the ballpark. We had a fantastic meal and the service was wonderful! We will return to try other food items we missed the first time."

  • "Celebrated our 10 year anniversary for the 10th year In a row at Town Hall. Thanks to everyone at Town Hall, from the minute we walked in the door until we left with great contentment, for making our anniversary so very special. The congratulations throughout the night from all of the staff; the always amazing food that delighted our palates; the mouthwatering chocolate butterscotch pot de creme and special dessert are all what keep us coming back year after year. Thank you Town Hall!"

  • "This has always been a great place, but tonight they "forgot about us and it took forever for food to get to table. We ended up taking it to go."

  • "Good food, good coctails, lots of choices but really deafeningly noisy because they have so many tables pushed together for large groups...several large groups shouting makes for lots of noise!! Luckily we were 30 minutes late for our Tues. night reservation and our table had been given away but we got seated right away on their covered, heated porch which worked so much better for our threesome. Fun and different!!"

  • "Town Hall always offers a delicious meal. Food is consistently good with nice variety of options. Great spot to take friends from out of town. New menu items are a nice change. We had a very knowledgeable and pleasant waiter this visit as well"

  • "Nice Old San Francisco atmosphere and good Southern-inspired food. The evening was marred by our wait person's repeated efforts to up-sell us on the menu, pointing out expensive wines and "warning" us against beginning with lesser priced starters. It made us wonder what was going on at first, then finally realizing what he was doing."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "We made it to our reservation early and were sat OUTSIDE of the restaurant. It was cold even though the heat lamps were on. Our waiter often forgot about us and we had to flag down other staff members for water. Would not recommend this place."

  • "Food was expensive but good. But watch out for the hostess at night. She was not very nice when we checked in with our reservation."

  • "My friend and I tried Town Hall for dinner - I had been there for lunch before, but it was the first time either of us had been there for dinner. The food was fantastic - we were able to split one appetizer and one main dish, and we were plenty satisfied since the portions are generous. We got the bbq shrimp to start, and had the fried chicken and jalapeno corn bread as the main course. Both were awesome - it's some of the best fried chicken I've had in recent memory. My friend was raving about it long after the meal, and we'd definitely go back. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the wait staff is great and just had a nice ambience. Great for couples or groups."

  • "Went to Town Hall on a Wednesday night for 7pm seating. The restaurant and bar were full and the place was quite lively. We were seated right away, our waiter was attentive and service swift but not rushed. Our starters came right away so I was worried we would be rushed but the mains took a while to reach the table so it was alright. By the time the mains came though the place was so packed and loud that we just wanted to leave. It was hard to have a conversation without yelling or being forced to hear the people seated next to us. Not the place for a romantic dinner! The food was pretty good and a good value."

  • "The Pork Shank was awesome. I usually get the fried chicken (also wonderful), but decided to try something different - glad I did."

  • "The food was excellent. Fried Chicken, Okra, smokin ribs. Highly recommend for an evening of fun!!"

  • "Fried chicken Po'Boy was very tasty although it wasn't much like any Po'Boy I've ever had in the south. Coleslaw was fresh but not my style. Chips excellent. Burgers that others had were big and GREAT, according to them (and the empty plate). I really like Town Hall....and shall return."

  • "The crowd seemed mostly the post-work crowd. It was loud and I could overhear lots of conversations about 'series A financing', which I suppose is par for the course in San Francisco. The food and service were terrific. They were very accommodating for a pregnant diner (me), with lovely mocktails and preggo-friendly recommendations. The fried chicken was fantastic, as were the appetizers we ordered. Well worth the price."

  • "Great southern food. Only problem was our food was extremely slow to come out from the kitchen (2 hrs before finishing our entrees!), but our waitress made up for it with friendly service and a glass of wine! I would return!"

  • "The entire experience was excellent. The food was great,I had the venison chops and my wife had the ribs. Both were excellent. The wine selection was good and affordable. We'll be back for sure."

  • "We celebrated two birthdays the other night and Town Hall did a great job making them special. I had to move up our reservation a couple of times and it didn't faze them at all. Great service and great food."

  • "Lovely, lit up and lively place. Very attentive staff and a fun room. The menu was interesting and food was quite good and interesting presentation. We would go again. We had no starters and no desserts since we had started elsewhere for cocktails and oysters."

  • "Could have been that our table was smack in the middle of the restaurant but this place is LOUD! Do not take a soft talker here, you will not be able to hear them. Food was great, service was pretty good."

  • "Not very good service. Our first 10 minutes at the restaturant were great - friendly host, drink order was taken and delivered right away. No appetizers ordered and immediately placed our food order. It was explained that the food is made to order and that we would be waiting 25-30 minutes. We understood. However, I did not expect to be passed over and ignored until our food came. Was the restaurant busy? Yes. Were we patient for the 45 minutes it took for our food to come? Yes. Were our water glasses constantly filled? Absolutely. How often did our server check on us during those 45 minutes? Once for our next drink order - 55 minutes after we arrived. Did we get those drinks? No. Were we charged? No. Would we come back? Probably not."

  • "Wine list had only a few wines under $50 that I could find. Maybe the restaurant could have a nice house wine that they could rotate. Service was a bit spotty, long wait between appetizer & entree. Bathroom is too far away from dining room!"

  • "Came here with a friend during the week for dinner. Although the restaurant was quite busy, my table was ready 10mins early and I could sit and enjoy a great glass of wine while waiting for my friend. Staff service was excellent, and the food was super delicious - not too heavy. I have been here several years ago and this restaurant continues to deliver."

  • "We live two blocks away. We dine here about once a month (lot's of choice in our 'hood.) This is a solid place with some southern funk. The food is good and interesting if not always 100% successful. The bar is good, but it wants to be inventive. Frankly, I prefer classic drinks, but if you like "new", you will love the bar."

  • "We were seated right away, the noise level was a bit loud. We ordered quickly, my client has an onion allergy so he very clearly asked for NO scallions, chives, or onions. Our meals took WWAAAAAYYYYY too long to come out. I asked about them to the hostess and she mildly apologized. The server was no where to be seen and he never came to our table. My duck was cold and his had onions all over it - sent it back. He finally got his meal with no apologies or acknowledgement from our server - it was actually very odd because we had already waited so long. The dessert was good not great… They charged us for both meals and the dessert which sometimes in this kind of situation will be gratis. Very poor experience. Totally won't go back."

  • "The menu was very interesting and the service was outstanding. Super attentive wait staff. Liked the decor too. High ceilings, brick walls & wooden floors. Would definitely go back."

  • "We started our meals with the barbeque shrimp served with a tasty sauce - I could have mopped up the sauce with bread alone! We also had a tuna tartare which was flavorful and served over toasted bread. For a main course, we had the Seabass and Venison Chops. Both were deliciously prepared and a side of Brussels Sprouts provided a tasty accompaniment. The atmosphere of Town Hall is great and I look forward to returning."

  • "The BBQ shrimp is amazing. The sauce is perfect. Mahi mahi and fried chicken were also very good, as was the bacon gravy that comes on the potatoes. Broccoli served with chicken is very plain, could have been better. Attentive service without being overbearing."

  • "I arranged a surprise birthday dinner with friends for my wife. We had a party of 10 and had a blast. Great food. Great service. And the place has good energy so our loudness fit right in without guilt. Thanks Town Hall."

  • "Don't need to go again for a LOOOOONNNNGGGG time3. Ribs were horrendous. The cod, though, was excellent. The butterscotch/chocolate pot de creme should taste a LITTLE like butterscotch."

  • "Food was outstanding. The cornbread was phenomenal and the St. Louis Ribs were cooked to perfection. But the hostess wasn't very friendly - never saw a smile. Plus the waiter wasn't very engaging either - and missed one of our appetizers, although it was brought quickly once I reminded him. This would be a perfect restaurant if the staff wasn't so dour and more engaging with customers."

  • "Fab food and drinks. Attentive service. Go early if you want a quieter dining experience. It gets very loud. Valet is $20, which is crazy. Would def eat here again."

  • "As soon as we we were seated I knew we were in for a good experience: Upon being seated the hostess said she thought that table section was to loud and told us that if we waited a minute she would make sure to seat us in a quieter section of the restaurant......amazing! Seafood chowder:excellent. Full of clams, chunks of fish v Full of flavor Skirt steak: best I haver had"
