Diner Reviews
  • "While the food won't get any Michelin stars, the service and ambiance are perfect. Our waiter Cliff was like the porridge from Goldilocks... not too hot, not too cold.... just right! Great Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand I hadn;t had before called Fire Stone. "

  • "And why not?? This place has it all - the restaurant, the decor, the service, the food.....all top notch! Stop reading my review and just go! You will not be disappointed."

  • "What I ordered sounded wonderful to me, but when it came it had red peppers flakes in it. I don't like spicy & can't eat peppers of any kind. I probably should have sent it back but didn't. So many restaurants include peppers in their dishes without indicating on the menu that they're an ingredient. I try to remember to ask the waiter before ordering if the dish has peppers but don't always remember as in this case. I understand that red peoppers, whether sweet or hot, add color to a dish but why can't the menu state their presence?"

  • "Always good food. Missed special request - birthday of my date! However, changed reservation twice so the special request may have been lost in the shuffle."

  • "I love Tower Oaks! Always a fabulous spot to dine!"

  • "Clyde's Tower Oaks is truly a great dinner experience. From the beautiful location overlooking woods, hassle free parking in Montgomery county, different decor in every room, good menu selections, very reasonable prices and attentive and customer focused wait staff, we had a wonderful family dinner."

  • "I have not been there in at least six years. I did not think it was very good then but was pleasantly surprised Saturday. My catfish was wonderful. Service wonderful. No one pushed us to leave. Ohio, the rhubarb tart was awesome...just a perfect Midwestern girl's meal."

  • "food was adequate -- nothing to write home about -- and atmosphere suggested an event spot rather than a good meal out spot. we were in a room with a bar and could barely hear each other talk across a table. Service was good however."

  • "With the dearth of truly desirable dining options in the North Potomac Area, Tower Oaks is our go-to refuge for a great meal. The Clydes group should hold seminars on how to build, staff, and run a wonderful dining experience. Their signature crab cakes are enough just to get one through the front door, but the rest of the can menu hold its own with other standard fare and the special that cycle in and out regularly. Make a reservation (using OpenTable of course) today!"

  • "I always feel like I am on vacation in Alaska when I am At Tower Oaks Lodge. One member of our group was hard of hearing so I requested to be seated in the back. It was perfect. The food was delicious, our service great and we all had a fabulous time."

  • "Everything was terrific with the exception of the Saranac Room which was fairly noisy and the windows were too high when seated to enjoy the view."

  • "I have always enjoyed Towers Oak Lodge with family and friends. This was a celebration of my cousin's 80th birthday and we chose to meet for brunch. The staff is always friendly and attentive. Food arrives hot and delicious, the coffee cake to nibble on while you wait is wonderful. Waitstaff was friendly, attentive and speedy with their service."

  • "Tower Oaks Lodge is a terrific restaurant, whether you are taking guests for the first time to impress them or having a weekly lunch or dinner. The setting is a beautiful Adirondack lodge, with a room focused on hunting, one on fishing, and one with an equestrian theme. The food is great, and the service is wonderful. I highly recommend it."

  • "Wish there were bread rolls and butter served with the meals...like the salmon salad dish - and also the steak dish. Wish there were more variety to select from for the Entrees. Otherwise the food is good, the place is nice and the service is good. Thanks"

  • "Wide & varied menu, we had appetizers, cocktails, entrees: salmon & crab cakes, both superb, dessert was excellent. Most importantly, was our intuitive server--Patrick. I suggest you ask for him when you visit Tower Oaks. Make a reservation through OpenTable for seamless seating."

  • "I hadn't been to Tower Oaks Lodge in a while. It's very convenient, but the food is not as good as it used to be and the price is too high for what you actually get. I ordered mussels for dinner and they came out cold. My husband ordered shrimp etoufee and the portion looked like a child sized portion. The only bargain there any more is the bar menu. After this last trip there I think I will not be going back for a while."

  • "Very lovely ambiance with a wide variety of menu options. The staff is friendly and warm and attentive! The parking is tricky but worth the time or if you feel like being treated extra special - opt for the valet and put all your cares away."

  • "We went to Clyde's on a Saturday night. It was busy, but we had a reservation and were seated right away. The food was delicious (New York Strip, salmon, oysters, MD crab soup) and our server was excellent and catered to all of our requests. It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend Clyde's to anyone who enjoys good food and good ambiance."

  • "Clydes is one of those restaurants that you go to for special occasions. The atmosphere is wonderful. Service is fantastic. The food is exquisite. Prices are comparable to other fine restaurants. If you want to impress out of town guests, take them here! I promise you, you won't be disappointed!"

  • "I was very happy to move here from Reston on 1/30/14, and to find a Clyde's. This is the restaurant in Reston where my boyfriend and I first met in April 2012 on my first internet date and where we got engaged this past fall. I will always be in love with Clyde's. It is also unique, exceptionally beautiful , and as customers we are catered to. The staff is friendly and they do not push you out if you are staying a little too long. Wonderful place. I look forward to outside dining if there is ever a spring here. Thank you. Riva"

  • "Of all the times that I spent at Tower Oaks, this was by far, my worse experience. The receptionist who handled us when we walked in was short, blunt and very rude. When I mentioned that I had a reservation, she told me " to wait over against the wall there, and I'll be called" - I asked why, since I had a reservation, and was told that I just had to with all the rest of the crowd as they were busy tonight. I was embarrassed not only for myself, but for my date, who I was taking there for the first time.. Why did I even make a reservation then?? There is never a reason for poor manners - especially when you are there to greet people.."

  • "Food wasn't that great - we had the special and it was really greasy. The waitress, a young girl, was not as professional as I would have expected and at the end she came back with my Fiance's credit card and asked to see an ID because the card wasn't signed - like we were dining at a fast food restaurant!! Very upset and disappointed."

  • "My friend and I asked the waitress about the petite Filet Mignons for dinner. They were not on the menu, usually a lunch item. She returned after checking with the kitchen and said we could order them anyway without bean spouts but with spinach. We did and enjoyed them."

  • "Their half off raw bar during happy hour and brunch can't be beat. Definitely one of our favorite restaurants!"

  • "Very nice well above average casual dining restaurant. Nice variety of sandwiches, including burgers and a grilled chicken with cheese and bacon sandwich ((which I love), etc. and various other "full meal" items, including monthly specials. Their cream of crab soup is wonderful. I have a very dear friend from Canada who comes here 2 or 3 times a year. One non-negotiable items for her visit to me is that I take her Tower Oaks at least once, and maybe twice, for the crab soup."

  • "Hadn't been here in a long while, but went back for brunch. I had actually only eaten there in the evenings and had never really appreciated how nice the main dining room is during the day - with huge windows looking out over trees to really complete the "Adirondack Lodge" theme. The service was warm and attentive, the food is pretty much the same. This is a place that consistently provides you with a solid meal. Is it going to absolutely blow you away if you are a serious foodie? No. It is still, ultimately a chain. But it is no TGIFridays, either. You can go here and get a quite good meal in a very pleasant restaurant. If you don't set your expectations sky high, you'll be very happy."

  • "Had heard about this restaurant but had never been there since it is 45min away.Went to celebrate a special occasion.Restaurant is very pretty, rooms are interesting, and twinkling lights add a real touch. We liked the rustic lodge feeling. In our party we started with salads - - VERY small and overpriced, and cream of crab soup. Then had crab cakes that were very good, but wasn't thrilled with the acorn squash; rockfish was good as was the haddock. The desserts were the real hit of the night! Tried a few different ones and they were all delicious. Service was the real downside to our evening. Our server did not greet us, introduce herself and barely spoke to us.She never offered refills to soft drinks or coffee."

  • "This was one of our regular weekend restaurants but seemed to be going downhill a bit in the last year or so. However, this past Saturday (3/22/14) we tried again and were very pleased. We both had the rockfish special of the month but switched sides for those with a salmon entree (an option which is certainly a big plus). The fish was very good as was the service."

  • "Wow, this season's shad roe dish was amazing. I love roe, grew up eating cod roe in the UK and haven't had any in years. So jumped at the chance for some cooked fish roe. The bacon element was a good idea, probably to balance the bitter of the dandelion greens and temper the ocean in the roe. It was just very yummy with the dandelion, bacon, and crostini, and it got even better when I found the green onions. There could have been a few more, but half the amount of dandelion greens. As for the restaurant itself, it never ceases to fascinate me and the atmosphere is very warm. Suitable for all types of groups."

  • "The owners should be proud of their wait staff. Always pleasant and very knowledgeable. Food is always over the top. My favorite place to dine. Brunch, lunch or dinner always great. Top of the line oysters which my family enjoys. Clyde's The Lodge make you feel at home while feeling special at the same time."

  • "Making the reservation was easy, even though it was Saint Patrick's day. A booth was available when we arrived at the appointed time. Service was attentive without being hovering. The drinks were good. The food was terrific!"

  • "My friends and I came specifically for the monthly special of rockfish. To my dismay when I saw the menu, it was to be served with grilled fennel and a blood-orange vinaigrette. Since I hate licorice, I avoid fennel in any guise, and when the waiter confirmed that the citrus in the sauce was not just the juice but perhaps the dreaded "zest" (rind, to me), I figured the rockfish was not for me. The waiter, however, assured me (and the friend at the table who shares these distastes) that we could substitute. We did so, and much enjoyed the resulting plates. The bread pudding and chocolate mousse to follow were really superb. The kind accommodation to our individual tastes made all the difference to our evening."

  • "My husband decided to take me out for my birthday, which happens to be St. Patrick's Day. We rarely celebrate on my actual day because there are so many parties, crowds, noise, etc. But such a pleasant surprise to be at Tower Oaks. They were very crowded, but it was surprisingly acceptable as far as noise level. There was a wandering bagpiper, which was very interesting. The food is always good here, but the service was great, even with an overflow crowd. They also offered Valet parking, which made it much easier to get in and out of the restaurant. This might just become an annual event!!!"
