Tout Va Bien open since 1948 is the oldest French bistro in the theater district. every classic French dish you are looking for you will find for sure!!!! Escargot coq au Vin beef bourguignon steak au poivre lamb chops with garlic just a few examples. Tout Va Bien is now in it's third generation and keeps getting better year after year. It's a great Pre-Fix dinner for a great price. You can't beat it really. For anyone off to a show in the theater area, which, let's face it, can be underwhelming in the food category, this is a great place to have a quality dining experience before a magical evening of Broadway!"

  • "Tout Va Bien has been a family favorite with me for decades. It is perfect for pre or apre theater or a romantic rendezvous. If you come back only once or twice, the friendly owners and staff remember you and treat you like an old friend. The classic French cooking is reliable and always everything it should be. The convivial ambience, partly due to the tight seating, lends itself to conversation and the happy meeting of friends, new and old. This is a tranche de vie of old Manhattan and one can easily slip back into the days of Mad Men, when New York had sophisticated adult night life. I love it here!"

  • "A little "hole in the wall" recommended by a friend from NY: small French restaurant w/charming atmosphere, quiet vibe and the most genuinely kind & attentive staff. Easy to fall into snippets of conversation w/your neighbor (seating is tight) & even venture a little French from the depths of your hs memory. We had: Shrimp scampi (they accommodated my request for pasta instead of rice) and Coq au Vin. Perhaps a bit heavier than I prefer, but it really didn't matter. THE BEST cup of French brewed COFFEE w/creme brulee for dessert. A bowl of Sangria on the house as the final touch-I guess I had never had the real thing-this was deeply flavored w/earthy body-just delightful. J'adore TOUT VA BIEN and will return for more when next in NYC!!"

  • "I've been coming here for the last 7 years. I ordered the omelet (the only thing I ever order) and the lady running the floor says they haven't served the omelet in 2 yrs! What?!! I told her I was here just last month and a few months before that and several times in the last 2 years - I've always had the omelet. It was a pointless discussion because she knew she was correct, which she was not. Had the lamb instead; it was cooked as ordered, but not flavorful. I was so taken aback by the interaction to bother with dessert. Service was spotty as always. Sad to say, but that was my last visit to Tout Va Bien."

  • "Used to be good - bartender shook martini all over floor, second attempt poured it all over the bar. Salad was dead greens with yelliowy//pink horrible tomato with no dressing, pate was crumbly and greasy at the same time and finally the mussels were no more than 1/2 inch long and very skinny - certainly not PEI quality. Very sad. I will not return. Highlight of evening were three birthdays where they dim the lights and all are asked to sing HB. Tres tacky - I don't think the tourists were enjoying their time as well. ."

We had the pre-fixe menu, mussels and escargot, then beef burgundy and hanger steak, creme brulee, chocolate mousse, and tarte tatin for desert. All very good, tarte tatin was best desert (mine.) We would go back. All in all, a pleasant, tasty low stress meal!"

Then tried the calves' liver for first time--not so special and won't have it again (just basically the same "liver and onions" that my grandma made back in the south).   • "This charming "old-school French" bistro hasn't changed in decades, thank God. It's increasingly hard to find tripe or kidneys with mustard sauce these days, let alone Tete de Veau! To quote SNL's Stefan: "this place still has it all," plus some of the best French fries this side of Paris. The ladies in the dining room are really French, indulge my high-school version of their language and aim to please. I love the place. I can even overlook such egregious mistakes as "plastic" tomatoes garnishing otherwise excellent pâte in January. It's a refreshing change to the "hip" scene and romantic spot for a date, when what you care about IS your date (& la Cuisine de la Grand Mere). Stick to the basics & if you love "les Abats" you can't go wrong!"

We made reservations through the trusty Open Table online service and heard back quickly that our reservations were confirmed. If you are looking for a very special night out in the theatre district in New York this is your spot. Speak French even if you only know a few words, and order from the specialty menu if you can. Everything was scrumptious including the desserts, and their traditional Sangria served at the end of your dining experience will send you out into the magical New York night in a mood only Tout Va Bien can provide. It felt like a cozy neighborhood bistro, food was really good, service was great, very friendly and knowledgeable, and had wonderful interactions with other patrons. My husband had their bouillabaisse and I had the sole meuniere, both were excellent. After dinner they brought a large bowl of sangria which was a surprise and absolutely delicious- -a great ending to a really good and fun evening for us. While there, I noticed there were also two groups of 6-8 people as well as couples having a more intimate dining experience, so kudos to the restaurant that it seems to easily accommodate a variety."

Has an older, more intimate, cozy look to it and can't wait to return. Sweetbreads were on the menu (which I haven't had for years) and they were wonderful. Don't come here if you are looking for health food."
