whenever you are in the mood for
old fashion french food-this is the place. the server was very efficient."

Prixe Fixe Lunch $14.95. Mushroom
soup was flavorful; Nicoise salad was the worst I have ever eaten. Traditionally this salade compose is pleasing the eye as well as the palate. The ingredients were hapharzardly scattered on the large plate with too much lettuce, far too many anchovies, strange white potatoes, tasteless canned tuna and sharp vinegar taste in dressing. Crème caramel dessert was overcooked and grainy. I expected a French bistro could serve a credible Nicoise salad but clearly this restaurant cannot. In spite of low price and quantity of ingredients, quality was sorely lacking."

Had dinner here with my Bridal
Party...it was very French. We had a good time, the atmosphere was a bit more casual then we expected but the food and service was good! :)"

Terrific. Great pre theater Sat
night. Had the prize fixe and great food, service and cost. Mussels, salmon and chocolate mousse!! Wonderful service with great attitude. Definitely going back!"

Tout Va Bien has been a favorite
for years, many years, having been born and raised in the neighborhood. It is for me, one of the best restaurants to introduce someone to good homestyle french cooking. The Prix Fix menu is the best way to go moneywise, and the choices on it are some of my favorite apps, entrees and desserts anyway, at Tout Va Bien. The best part about eating there besides the wonderful food, is that you are not in any way rushed through your drinks, appetizers, entrees or desserts. You can sit and visit and never feel there are eyes on you waiting for you to leave. We had a 5:30 reservation for dinner before an 8:00 show at Radio City. It was perfect timing. :)"

We were presented with a basket of
fresh crusty french bread upon arrival. Wine was ordered from a limited wine list but acceptable and reasonably priced. I had the prix fixed menu of house pate , coq au vin and creame caramel . My wife had the pork chops and when I tasted the dish it was excellent. Everything was lovely and our server guided us through the process. A little french was spoken. We met the man/wife owners near the finish of our meal who were dining and keeping an eye on things. It was right across the street from the Broadway show WICKED. The bowl of Sangria was passed around at the end to toast a fine meal. We will return on our next visit to NYC."

Perfect location for the theater.
Service was friendly and excellent. Food really delicious and portions sizable. Wine was nicely priced and very good. Will definitely go back."

The prix fixe menu cannot be beat!
$26.99 for three courses, authentic French, delicious food. I had boeuf bourguignon , served with a succulent red wine sauce , carrots and potatoes, just as it should be, piping hot and flavorful. For the starter course I chose cream of carrot soup, rich, tasty and not overdone. For dessert, they had white chocolate mousse, fluffy yet firm texture with just enough chocolate. My friend had the romaine salad with tomatoes , homemade vinaigrette dressing. He chose saumon provencal ,two huge pieces, perfectly done and seasoned with herbes de Provence. It came with ratatouille and mashed potato. He had the tartine aux pommes for dessert ($2 extra) . It too was huge and bursing with apples. Outstanding"

The food is so good and the staff
is very friendly. This was our second visit and we highly recommend Tout Va Bien."
Dined on 6/27/2014
A neighborhood favorite. My
husband and I return there at least twice a month. The food is excellent. We especially like the mussels as an appetizer and Coq au Vin as the main course. The owner is quite friendly and very attentive to the diners. Sangria is freshly made every evening and offered after dinner. The atmosphere is Frence Bistro with red checkered tablecloths. The owner is a huge soccer fan so going to the restaurant during the World Cup was a special treat."

I can't believe what a great find
this is! I lived in NYC from 1983-1989 and then visited from 1989-2014 and never went to Tout Va Bien. Thank goodness for the internet so I found this place which is lovely and so French. What a great menu and very reasonable prices and great service!! and my waiter Florio (sp?) what so attentive and excellent, I will definitely recommend to others and my husband and I plan to go there before we attend "Lady Day at the Emerson Bar and Grill" in the next few weeks! Highly recommend!"

My husband and I noted this little
French restaurant while walking to our hotel in the Theater District. What a find! It is a relatively small lower level room with limited seating. It was a busy night, with the World Cup going on (the crowd was a tad loud and energetic!) and many other diners were having dinner before going to Broadway shows. Service was a little slow, but that can be normal with French dining. The wait staff was friendly and accommodated us with substitutions for our Paleo diet. Overall, it was one of the best meals we had in NYC. We will definitely visit this restaurant again!"
Dined on 6/24/2014
Conveniently located to Broadway
theater district. Very good food. Not much room between tables. Can get loud. However, the quality of the food trumps all of the negative points."
Dined on 6/24/2014
Food was run-of-the mill French
cuisine. Nothing special. Small splintered bones in the coq au vin. But worst of all was the wait. Waited over 1 l/2 hours to get food. Will not return."
Dined on 6/21/2014
Warm, friendly atmosphere -
authentic bistro food."
Dined on 6/18/2014
Nice little bistro perfect for
pre- matinee lunch for theaters in the high forties or low fifties. Quiet with good service provided by one waitress. I think they would have had trouble with a bigger crowd. Pretty standard, traditional French food and nice house wine."
Dined on 6/14/2014
We randomly picked a restaurant
based on being near the theater and menu online. We were pleasantly surprised by the warmth and friendliness when we arrived! The staff was extremely friendly, which did not slow down the efficiency of their ability to get a restaurant full of patrons in a rush to their plays on time. The food was well cooked and delicious. The prefixed menu was very reasonably priced. We enjoyed watching how well the staff worked together, they never stopped moving, meeting everyone's needs with a smile and a kind word. The man next to us came in with little time to spare for his show but they rushed to bring him his 3 course meal, which he found delicious. They even offered for him to come back after his play for his dessert"
Dined on 6/13/2014
The food was good with great
service. The staff wanted to make it a pleasant and fun experience for our party. We went after a show and picked the restaurant due to its proximity to our Broadway show. NYC has many choices and some can be quite pricey. Tout Va Bien was good and not overly expensive offering house wines as well as bottles. Being a good cook, they did not offer much I could not make a home. If you’re looking for something special keep looking. If you want a home style French meal, you will enjoy it."

Traditional French classics in a
convenient location; a great value. "

Long before Hell's Kitchen became
hip, an authentic French bistro served up homemade fare to French expats and locals in the know. It became --and still is -- a terrific pre-theater alternative to the pre-fab food that dominates this tourist area. The food continues to taste like Grandma is in the kitchen. The service --even at peak -- is efficient. They'll find a way to get you out in time for your 8 pm (or 7 pm) curtain. "

Favorite French spot in the city.
Great food. No attitude. Definitely a gem tucked neatly out of sight. Food is amazing! And definitely save room for dessert!!"
Dined on 5/25/2014
I would give zero stars if I were
allowed. We had a confirmed reservation, through Opentable, for 6:30 (pre-theatre) on a Saturday evening. Our party arrived ON TIME and were told (in a brusque manner) "There are no seats for you. Can you come back later? Or maybe two of you can sit and the other two can stand?". Enough said. I loved this place and the treatment I received on that night broke my heart and almost ruined our evening. "

Excellent little French restaurant
in the Brittany style. Great food! Great staff and Great ambience. Highly recommend the pre-theatre meny for theatre goers. You can't beat the price! I have been coming here for over 30 years! "

Dinner last Thursday night was
great and the service so friendly and fun."
Dined on 5/22/2014
We have been dining at this
restaurant for 12 years. When we visit the city, it is always on our list. Excellent before or after the theatre."
Dined on 5/22/2014
I was served my tea in a cup with
lipstick on it....................need I say more? Food was nothing special. Location for pre-theater is wonderful. Not a repeat, there are many restaurants with good locations, better food and clean cups."
Dined on 5/21/2014
I have been coming to this
retaurant yearly for about 25 years. Something has happened. On my recent visit, there were few diners. The specials were far inferior to those of the past. With few diners, the service was good. We were about 15 minutes late for prix fixe combo meals. We asked if we might still get them, the answer was no (so I ordered less than I ordinarily would and paid about $10.00 less than I would have with the prix fixe). When I have been a bit late in the past, my request for the prix fixe menu was always. The personalities of the staff were not the vibrant ones of the past. I seems only one person was French. This is very sad. It was the favorite restaurant for me on business trips. I will not return."

This restaurant is charming. The
food is wonderful. Their cheese plate is divine. The mussels are outstanding. Vivian, is a gracious host, with her thick french accent and welcoming smile. Lots of french patrons as well. We went three nights in a row and took different groups. Each time they all immensely enjoyed the evenings. "

I made a reservation a week before
going for Loire Wine Week for four people. When we got there, we got pushed to the back and were told to share a table with 4 other women. Not a good idea since my group of 4 wanted to all see each other since we had not seen each other for a long time. We did not intend to share a table with strangers. I have never had an experience in a NY restaurant like that. We walked out. Not happy at all. Did not order anything. The Manager was rude, as well."

A neighborhood standby that still
provides a meal that we enjoyed. Can't beat the fixed price lunch for price or quality. "
Dined on 5/16/2014
Our first time at this charming
French restaurant was a treat in many ways. We both got the pre-show fixed price menu and 3 glasses of wine. The mussels appetizer was incredible! My salmon was pretty good. the creme brule was fantastic and with wine-by-the-glass was fine. BUT, we discovered the bouef bourguignon was actually coq au vin (the didn't look all that different). Was that accidental or a way to stick a cheaper dish to a tourist-in-a-hurry. To our server's credit, she replaced the entree with the bouef without question and fast (she didn't seem surprised). Upon reviewing the bill, I discovered we were charged $12 per glass of wine (listed at $8 in the menu). Meal was good, so I paid, but next time I'll confirm price in advance."

It was a pleasant surprise! Took a
shot at this restaurant and the food was great! The owner was friendly and made great suggestions. She's also a great salesperson for sure! Had a great time and will return definitely!"

TVB is a great way to start the
evening if you are off to a Broadway show (very handy for Wicked). Great food, great wine, great atmosphere, great service and fantastically great value (we had the pre-show special menu). Being Brits who have spent many happy summers in France we can assure you that this French restaurant is the real deal."
Dined on 5/10/2014
Try the mussels; coq au vin; house
wine; steak au poivre; frites; apple tart and chocolate mousse!"
Dined on 5/7/2014
Very cute space. Our server,
though very kind and respectful was taking care of all the tables and thus service was slow. The menu did list a "warning" to prepare for slow service, so we did. Unfortunately, the entrees we ordered were uninspiring; Beef Bourguignon, a chicken dish with mushroom sauce and Saumon Provencal--all rather ordinary. We liked the ambiance of the restaurant but probably would not return."
Dined on 5/4/2014
Decor needs renovation; permeating
garlic/stale food odor; tables too close; wait staff harried; ventilation stagnant; furniture tired; wait staff do not use trays for service; reasonably priced sparkling wine."

Now that I've moved away from NYC,
I can't visit without making a stop at Tout Va Bien. The food is always impeccable, the atmosphere is perfect in its Frenchness, and the people who run it are just lovely. "
Dined on 4/27/2014
We enjoyed a wonderful post
matinee dinner here. Tables were very crowded together and the waitress was efficient but bossy. Food was fabulous. Had been here for lunch previously and ambiance was better without it being so crowded. "
Dined on 4/26/2014
My husband and I had a delicious
pre-theater lunch at Tout Va Bien -- we are Francophiles and enjoy nothing more than a traditional French bistro, quirks and all. The menu is compact but offers everything you would expect -- escargot, pate, boeuf bourguignon, coq a vin, creme brûlée, etc. While the service was slightly slow, the warm, relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable meal. The prix-fixe is a great deal, and prices are reasonable overall. We enjoyed the mix of French and American diners, and had an interesting conversation with the owner on our way out. We'll definitely return!"
