Diner Reviews
  • "One of the very besting overall dining experiences in Boston and we have eaten at more than a few. Service, ambiance and food was wonderful. "

  • "I've been to Toscano's many times and every time is a great time. I always bring out of town guests and everyone likes this place. One visit I forgot mr reading glasses and asked if they had something I could use. To my delight and amusement I was presented with a tray of glasses in all sizes and colors. Now that's what indespencible service is all about. Have they Osso Buco. It never disappoints."

  • "Old brick, beautiful streetscape, inventive and delicious Italian food -- this restaurant is a gem. It looks out on one of the prettiest streets in old Boston. Inside is gorgeous exposed brick and dark wood. Staff were friendly and attentive; out waiter was funny, to boot. Menu is extensive, and still there were daily specials. The ravioli with shrimp is yummy. The pizzas are generous single serving. Highly recommend the blueberry and white chocolate dessert! We'll be back to try more dishes. Bonus -- restrooms are dazzling and very clean."

  • "To me, its tough to do Italian well in this town. So many restaurants prep the "status quo" and charge you an arm and a leg; Toscano's had everything perfectly cooked, with creative dishes on the menu...and the prices were reasonable, especially for the amazing quality of the food. We were treated like kings, with a beautiful view of Charles Street -- perfect for my boyfriend's birthday dinner!"

  • "Not a real problem, but we sat at the bar and the barman was only moderately attentive, even though the place was moderately busy (we were the only people at the bare)."

  • "We had a party of seven after a local business event. The food and service was excellent. The staff warmly accommodated last minute changes to size of the party."

  • "A friend and I thoroughly enjoyed lunch and the warm inviting atmosphere. Our waiter was knowledgeable and helped us choose menu and wine items. The smoked salmon to start was terrific. My veal was tender and done to perfection; my friend's chicken was delicious. Our wines (a white and a red) were perfect. And the tiramisu was the best we've had in Boston. Definitely would return."

  • "I was so excited to try Toscano. We had reservations for restaurant week for my brother's birthday. Our server was very good and our food was out in a very timely manner. However, we all felt the main dish was good, but a little bland. I was surprised, as I know reviews for Toscano have been almost a solid 5 stars. The chicken in pompodora sauce didn't have a lot of flavor. The shrimp dish offered for restaurant week also lacked a bit of flavor. Again, our meal was good, but not as good as I had expected. I will try again though. The restaurant has LOTS of ambience."

  • "Four of us had dinner at the restaurant on a busy Friday late afternoon and night, and while it was a bit noisy the food was spectacular. Wonderful and thoughtful service as well...will return when back in Boston."

  • "Usually unbelievable, thorough, and friendly, the service was poor on our last visit. Our waiter was haughty, sort of rude, and took forever taking care of us. We were disappointed. But, we will return, and give them another try."

  • "Whenever I go to a new city, I check Open Table for restaurants. Toscano is only a few blocks from our hotel, The Liberty. We had made a late luncheon reservation, and were surprised to find that Boston was in the middle of restaurant week. We had a sublime 3 course meal for $20 each. The food was so good and the value was so apparent that we returned to Toscano that evening for the $33 dinner menu. The waiter was great in terms of helping us order a bottle of wine. We thoroughly enjoyed both meals!"

  • "Went for lunch during whatever it is "restaurant week" is now called. The menu choices were varied and appetizing. My friend and I enjoyed the first course: one Caesar salad ("so tasty it couldn't be good for you") and four out of this world meatballs in classic sauce. And, this was just the first course! Accompanied by the recommended chardonnay, we moved on to a second course: one order of orchietti with mushrooms and another of salmon and spinach. Every bite was delectable The salmon seared to perfection and the Pop-eye serving of spinach spring green with a smooth overlay of olive oil and mild garlic. Again, generous portions called for taking home extras. Finale: apricot tart and tiramisou gelato. Awesome!"

  • "Thank God for restaurant week! The three course lunch at Toscano's was amazing! I had the vegetable soup for an appetizer, the salmon/sauteed greens for the entree, and 3-scoops of gelato for dessert. The service was impeccable! I couldn't have asked for a better lunch!"

  • "I came for RW lunch with a couple of friends on a Sunday & we all agreed that this place was not worth it. The appetizers were nothing special, they were very simple in my opinion. The wait staff, not very professional & messed up our orders twice. They didn't care to ask how everything was. We didn't finish any of our food because it was simply not good. I first had the Barbine Rosse, I mean it's just beets on a plate, you can't really expect much, it was decent. Second, I had the Rigatoni Norcina, the pasta was undercooked. My friends had the sirloin & salmon & neither finished theirs, they just said it was not good. I had the tiramisu for dessert & my friend had the apricot tart, didn't finish those either. Glad we didn't pay full price!"

  • "Bravo....This restaurant has authentic Tuscan cuisine. The wine list features different expressions of the Sangiovese grape from all over Tuscany ...chianti Classico, Brunello, vino mobile, super Tuscans etc., etc. I have been here for business dinners, special occasions, holiday lunch while shopping and before the theater many times. The bar area high tops are a great area to have a glass of wine, meat and cheese board with their excellent selections of charcuterie and pizza!! I have even brought my children now 9 and 12 in for lunch and or early dinner. They love the place. There is always a friendly face at the door ready to greet everyone upon arrival...give it a try if you have not been . They also now have Toscano's Cambridge."

  • "Toscano is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston. Food is consistently good, as is the service. A friend and I had a reservation during Dine Out Boston week, and we were not disappointed. The portions were very generous and beautifully presented. My friend enjoyed the veal and I was delighted to find Rigatoni Norcina on the menu, a dish I particularly enjoy and which is only on the menu during the cold winter months. Dessert was also delicious, overall a great dining experience."

  • "We dined here for the 3rd time in a month since we've had MGH appointments that bring us to Boston. The first two we felt special because they made us feel welcome. This third time we left feeling different. . We waited about 15 minutes before a waiter came to the table. Then he maintained that perfunctory scripted politeness that is a distancing attitude. I said I couldn't hear what he was saying - twice - and he refused to bend closer or come closer. I tried to ask about the wine and instead of discussing it as I asked him, he rushed off and brought me back a glass to try so I felt I had to accept what he provided. Communication problems. No one said goodbye when we left. Still, we love the restaurant and the food and will go back."

  • "We arrived after the rush and were one of the last parties to depart (around 11 PM). Service was very good. Our waitress was knowledgeable and even though it appeared to have been a very busy night, took time with us to respond to our questions. Food was very good and each course was delivered at comfortable intervals with enough time to digest and to talk in between. My wife and two teenage daughters (16 and 18) enjoyed their meals very much. We had been here previously and we continue to be pleased with the food and the experience."

  • "The risotto was good and relatively cheap, but not too impressive. Bruschetta was great. I was impressed the waiter remembered all of the specials since there were so many. I would come back, but I was expecting more since it's so popular."

  • "My husband and I had a gift certificate here and enjoyed every single thing we were served. Neither of us are big "foodies," but we both said this is the best restaurant dining experience we've ever had! Yum."

  • "Toscano has a great wine list. We order a bottle of the Sauvignon Attems, Collio 11. It was excellent with our fish. The waiter was very attentive, but not in an intrusive way. Great night. When making a reservation, ask for a seat by the window."

  • "Having lived in Italy for a decade and a half, I can honestly say that Toscano feels like home. At the same time, the food is excellent and the service is wonderful. Love, love, love Toscano!"

  • "We have visited Toscano four times now and have yet to be disappointed! One visit was for lunch and we sat at the bar. Bartenders were very friendly and helpful in choosing a cocktail. Food was great. Went back with our daughters, ages 12-18, and they enjoyed it so much that they requested another trip back before our oldest went back to college. Went back with friends this weekend and food was fabulous!! Appetizers, main courses and desserts do not disappoint!!"
