  • "In rating a restaurant, Open Table offers a list of reasons to recommend a restaurant. Thus the title of this review. Caprese salad was drizzled with a concoction other than olive oil and balsamic and was scarce on basil. Of three entrees ordered, all were edible, one was satisfying and the other two lacked flavor. The cheese topping on one seemed to be a cheep pizza cheese rather than good mozzarella. Service was quick. We hadn't been seated five minutes when the waiter asked if we were ready to order. Only one other table occupied and a couple patrons at the bar. Should have gotten the hint. Final note, from what we saw, including the kitchen, an Italian or two on the staff could enhance this, so called, Italian restaurant."

  • "I've dined here a few times in the past and always had a good meal... cuz Joe took care of his customers. He saw to it that everyone's meal was to their liking or expectation. Upon dining on my most recent visit, the first thing I noticed was Joe's absence. But I thought maybe he had the night off. It was a Wednesday, after all. It was also particularly dead. We ordered, however mine was not correct because of a simple mistake. My friend ordered a pizza, and I ordered the Chicken Franchaise, not knowing there was a pizza with the same name as the entree I wanted. I didn't say anything because we had a movie to catch and I'm fine with pizza... it's just not what I had intended to eat. The waiter should have clarified."

  • "My family and I used to patronize the Toscana Grill years ago when it was under previous management. and were disappointed when TG disappeared for a few years. Now it's back under new management with the same name and a similar menu featuring pastas, pizzas, and Italian standards like chicken piccata and eggplant parmigiana. We decided to try TG again last Friday and enjoyed a good, solid, but not outstanding meal. The food is very good, the prices are quite reasonable ($10-16 for most entrees), and the portions are generous. Service was quick but could have been more thoughtful, though - for example, after we finished a bottle of wine the waiter cleared my empty glass without asking if anyone wanted more wine. We'll go back again!"

  • "I really like this little Italian restaurant. I believe it's been recently acquired by new management, who just happens to also be the Executive Chef. I've been here twice -- once on a date and another time with a group of 4. Sit outside to enjoy food and wine with nice weather. It's next to a noisier establishment, but that doesn't detract from the ambience too much. The menu has traditional Italian fare but presented with a trendy flair. The first time I had the veal piccata and it was delicious. The second time I had clams with linguini and the clams were a little chewy. It's easy to miss this place since it's hidden in a business courtyard and not viewable from the street. But Toscana Grill is a worthy find!"

  • "The quality of the good was excellent. All of us (vegetarians) loved our entrees. The price can't be beat. The servers didn't seem to be committed to one table--think this led to some inefficiency/delays and a lower than necessary standard for service (eg, servers not knowing who ordered what). I would definitely go back, though, as the food and prices were excellent."

  • "The place is tucked in behind a large building at the 2300 address. The Caesar salad was small with the dressing on the side. It was good but nothing special. I enjoyed my spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was sort of a creamy tomato and it was good. They served a couple of pieces of Focaccia with my meal. I asked for some crusty Italian bread, but the owner/chef said they serve Focaccia, which isn't really that good for dunking. Other than that, everything was good all across the board."

  • "My wife and I stopped by Toscana Grill last weekend. The food was great. The managing partner was there and working hard doing a bit of everything. He was friendly and energetic and made us feel extremely welcome. As for the food, I didn't have one of their traditional Italian dished, instead I had a great piece of crab stuffed Salmon that was delicious. I would certainly (in fact I already have) recommend this place to anyone."

  • "The revamped (under new New Jersey management) Toscana Grill is focusing exactly on what it should -- the food and the service. The menu hits the right balance of both classic and creative Italian dishes, avoiding being either boring or pretentious. The staff was personable and engaging without being pushy, showing the possibility for Toscana to become the kind of neighborhood restaurant you would visit regularly -- and where they might just know your name. The ambience is still, literally, a work in progress, but they've come a long way from the old look. New booth seating and a clearly identifiable entrance (the current entrance seems temporary?) will make a positive difference."

It was our first time there, so it took us a while to read the menu! After that, the server kept taking the wine list, even though we asked to keep it so we could order more wine. Other than that, it was a nice evening. The food was very good."

  • "This place was great - it's really so rare to find such an accommodating and welcoming staff. To begin, I changed our reservation to a bit later just before our original reservation time, only because I saw Open Table would let me. When we got there the staff saw that the reservation change hadn't been reflected in their plans so we were forced to wait an extra 15 minutes at the bar. The owner treated us to wine and an appetizer to make up for the confusion and wait - it totally made us appreciate this place that much more. The food during dinner was delicious and we couldn't find anything to be unhappy with even if we tried. The wait staff was extremely kind and welcoming, very attentive as well. Great find in this neighborhood!"

  • "I wanted to try something new for Valentine's Day. I've learned my lesson: for special occasions, stick with what you know. The prix fixe dinner menu looked enticing enough, and was reasonably priced. We were greeted and promptly seated by a friendly maitre d', and our order was taken in good time. It was all downhill from there. For about 20 minutes it was clear that no one in the restaurant was getting their food. When it finally came, my medium steak was past well-done, but we'd waited so long for it, I didn't complain. We saw another patron complain that his was overcooked as well. Clearly there was a major problem in the kitchen, but there was no communication about it. Why are so many amateurs running restaurants? Grrr."

  • "We went to Toscana based on reviews and their veg/vegan menu items. The place was a little tricky to find as we are not locals, but a quick phone call sorted it out. The staff was really friendly and service was excellent. We were there on a Sunday evening and it was pretty quiet. The staff indicated that other times were much busier so your mileage may vary. Nevertheless, we were treated extremely well. The best part about the experience was the food. We ate vegan which is usually a mixed bag when it comes to quality preparation. We were impressed. The soups were amazing and the pasta perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of oil to make the flavors wonderful. We highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "Great food, nice ambiance, and excellent service. Bread was good, and they had a few vegetarian options for entrees. The eggplant parmesan was among the best I've had, and the whole-wheat penne had an excellent sauce -- simple but unique and memorable. The minestrone soup was hearty and quite good. The desserts sounded great, but our choice of the avocado/almond gelato (vegan) was not very good. We would definitely go there again especially since it's conveniently located for us."
