Tosca RistoranteBest in DCBeen going to Tosca for years. Always had a great meal and great service. Nice to see the same waiters (in white coats). Perhaps the best Italian food in DC.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMMolto Bene!Tosca was everything we expected! Highly professional and knowledgeable staff, food expertly and creatively crafted. My gnocchi were light fluffy pillows with fresh fava beans and a light buttery sauce. My red snapper and grilled vegetables were flavorful and perfectly cooked. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. My husband is a wine expert and was thrilled with the quality of wines available. Must go -5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe LOVE this restaurant andWe LOVE this restaurant and go to it every time we are in DC. The veal ravioli is fabulous. Actually all their pastas are fabulous!
The service is excellent. Attentive but not hovering.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding in every way,Outstanding in every way, but the regular menu is very expensive. However the pre-theatre pris-fixe is a deal.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMA fine dining experience. We were greeted promptly and courteously. We were seated immediately.
The waiter, Brian was friendly and knowledgeable. He made appropriate recommendations.
The food was excellent.
The wine was great, and we could obtain a half bottle.
The desert was decadent and delicious.
Overall an excellent dining experience.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food and service at ToscaThe food and service at Tosca were impeccable. We will definitely be returning for more. We were very impressed.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding service! A reallyOutstanding service! A really great dining experience!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA Nice Outing For A Mini-ReunionEveryone in our group of eight enjoyed the pre-dinner drinks, appetizers, main courses, and wine. The food and service were very good, and the restaurant accommodated our desire to have some seclusion by giving us a space in the back. All in all, an excellent experience.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMgood food, good waiter, but...we are vegan. while the menu is not vegan-friendly, the waiter was accomodating. the food was tasty. they dropped the ball when we arrived as our table had accidentally been given away. we were told it would be "two minutes" but it was 15 instead. they did make it up to us free salads and an anniversary dessert.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMTosca is consistently excellent.Tosca is consistently excellent. The best Italian restaurant in Wash, DC.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. Pasta was superb. Staff superb. I am not an easy person to please. What else can I say.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of our favorites comesOne of our favorites comes through again! Tasting menu had diverse flavors presented to complement each other and the wine pairings. Excellent, polished service even on a very busy night.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the finest meals I'veOne of the finest meals I've had in Washington in years. I hahe smaller tasting menu.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMthe tasting menu was excellent--welthe tasting menu was excellent--well put together--three interesting and perfectly executed items, --a cold salad of octopus, peas, herbs; a perfectly cooked and seasoned fish, and their take on tiramisu--with zabayon complementing the usual suspects and a fourth item that was fine.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe amuse bouche, startersThe amuse bouche, starters and main courses were all great. The service was, as always, excellent. The one disappointing thing was their complimentary after-dinner sweet plate -- it was not up to their usual standards. There were eight cookies of two types, chocolate and sugar, and they looked like they were store-bought, and not very good ones. I tasted one of the chocolate ones and it was over-cooked -- very disappointing. But hey, they're free, so I can't complain too much.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMMy boss and I were in D.C.My boss and I were in D.C. on business, and wanted to take a special prospect to enjoy a wonderful dining experience. Tosca was recommended to me and I was so pleased we chose it. Our prospect was an "adventurous" diner and insisted I have a taste of her Octopus! Our server was perfect, as was the wine, and my sea bass. We had a lovely evening at a lovely venue. Would go again on my next trip to D.C.!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGraci! We decided to go to Tosca pre-theater because we saw that they had a pre-theater menu which we thought might mean that they could make sure we got to the show on time. They were terrific! We cut it a little close with a 7 pm show, but the service was out of this world. We had a three course meal with appetizer, main and dessert. The appetizers were just amazing - the proscuitti with fresh mozzarella was the best I have ever had and a generous portion, and my son just melted into the agnolotti appetizer. The fish was fresh and beautifully prepared, and the lamb pork ravioli in a diving sauce/broth was out of this world. Thank you to the servers for working with us for a great meal prior to the show and a wonderful birthday celebration!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMTosca was magnifico. I hadTosca was magnifico. I had the tasting menu and each course was superb. It was also a good value4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMy family had dinner priorMy family had dinner prior to attending a sporting event at the Verizon center. (I will admit we were under dressed but the staff made us feel comfortable and welcome). The service was outstanding, waiters were friendly, accomodating (children with us)gave excellent recommendations for both food and wine. We had a wonderful dining experience and would absolutely dine at Tosca again and again. Excellent experience!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMRomanticWe had a very nice dinner, your service was good, food was tasty, quite place to have a conversation.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome food.. Great staff..Awesome food.. Great staff.. All-around great evening date :)4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service, some courses lackingMy dining partner and I each ordered the 4-course tasting menu. The service was exceptional, and the wine list was extensive. Our bottle was especially good. The ambiance was fantastic, but our meal was not that great. The chilled baby octopus and calamari salad was nicely cooked and not overly chewy, but had little flavor to speak of. The entree, roasted Alaskan halibut with kale, was overly salted but otherwise well prepared. The only standouts of the evening were the amazing lobster-tail-filled ravioli, which was almost entirely lobster and very delicious, and the tiramisu in a martini glass. It was nice to eat here once, but the amazing service did not make up for lackluster flavors in the food.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe pre-theater dinner menuThe pre-theater dinner menu has a good selection and is a fantastic deal at $38. Highly recommended.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food; great service.Great food; great service. Will definitly go back.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service are alwaysFood and service are always wonderful at Tosca. It is not cheap but it is worth the price for that special evening out!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA good solid place. GoodA good solid place. Good food. Good service. We liked it. However, there was, unfortunately, a young child who decided to fuss quite loudly and the seemingly un-caring parents did nothing about it. In that situation, it is up to the Restaurant to do something about it. They didn't. Our meal was essentially done when this child started but after 10 minutes we bid a hasty retreat. The parents are to blame but Tosca management did nothing to make it stop and, essentially forced us to leave earlier than we otherwise would have. Management (not the waiters) should have addressed this immediately and they failed to do so.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat pre-theatre dinnerGreat pre-theatre 3 course dinner. Accommodates couples to mid size groups. Outstanding service at a better than normal Washington DC price, but by no means cheap. You need to know where you are going, there is no flashy sign outside.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday LunchThe ambiance was definitely "Power lunch", but by 1:45pm most of the crowd was gone, and we had the restaurant almost to ourselves which was lovely for us. The food arrived very quickly and our waiter was VERY attentive and gracious. I was given a birthday tiramisu gratis which was a nice touch.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMHonest but fair review of Tosca.Tosca is an upscale, high end restaurant in the heart of DC. I wanted an upscale Italian meal with variety. This was to the extreme, and food selections were not your typical Italian fare. In other words, no basic pasta or Marsala sauces here. My wife ordered the Veal Ravioli, and I had the Lobster Ravioli. Both dishes were excellent and the ravioli's were very fresh and hand made. The wine we had was very good at twelve dollars per glass.
This should be classified as a $$$$ restaurant. Leave the children home too.
This restaurant was out of our league and a little pretentious. If you enjoy this type of atmosphere and money is no object, than this restaurant is for you.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a tremendous meal,We had a tremendous meal, the food and the service was incredible. The waiter made excellent recommendations and happily suggested getting half portions of two items when one of our party was torn between two choices. Appetizers, pasta's and dessert were all terrific. Wine recommendation was spot on to what we were looking for.
Gret meal and great experience!4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service! We came thereGreat service! We came there to enjoy the "pre-theatre" menu and dropped the car with the valet. They were nice enough to let us leave our car valeted and pick it up after the show! Wonderful evening (5:30pm dinner), wonderful food, wonderful service.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMOur 2nd time. Pasta dishesOur 2nd time. Pasta dishes outstanding. Have recommended this restaurant to several others who have all thanked me. We live in New York City and will go there every time we visit DC3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWe both did the pre-theaterWe both did the pre-theater three-course dinner. First course--round ravioli were excellent, the papparadelli with rabbit ragu were outstanding. Second course--the crusted pork was very good, the veal cheeks over polenta were outstanding--so tender! We shared teh chocolate dessert and took one home--it was superb. We had the Montefalco Rosso wine, which we had had last time, and really enjoyed it again. All in all, a home run!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOur once a year trip to ToscaOur once a year trip to Tosca was as good as ever. Chef always puts out amazing food and the staff was friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating, as always. The price point is competitive for the quality of food and service but you need to be prepared to spend $125-150/pp. It's a "white linen" experience all the way.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCelebrating a birthday, weCelebrating a birthday, we enjoyed a magnificent meal. While the food is on the expensive side, we had a reasonably priced bottle of excellent wine. Our waitress, Luigia, was delightful, highly professional and very helpful with her recommendations on food and wine.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWent to celebrate a friend'sWent to celebrate a friend's birthday. The restaurant is beautiful and serene in cream colors, the tables well-spaced, and the waiters are discreet and attentive. We had grilled trout and a fine Barbaraesco--could have been a nicer meal.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent! MyThe food was excellent! My husband couldn't stop raving about it. Wil definitely put it on our list of Washington restaurants to return to. Had 2 gluten free diners in our group and the chef was very easy to contact ahead of time to ensure that they could accommodate their needs3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent place for a businessExcellent place for a business lunch or dinner. Power lunch kind of place where movers and shakers in DC meet. Food and service is first class. Noise level low.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMNew York Quality Italian in DCTosca has never disappointed - year in and year out they deliver outstanding food and service in an elegant but non-stuffy environment.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGracious Dining ExperienceWhile it wasn't the top meal I've eaten all year, Tosca offered a dining experience that was very pleasant and highly commendable in all respects. As with prior visits, pastas were superlative. The other portions of the meal weren't quite that awesome, but they were all extremely well-prepared and offered no grounds for criticism. Service is professional, refined, and gracious. While any stylishness off the plate tends to be limited to the servers' white jackets -- the decor is neutral and almost bland -- the ability to eat an excellent meal in surroundings that are not boisterous is one that is increasingly short supply in downtown Washington. The pre-theatre menu is an exceptionally good value.12/8/2012 12:00:00 AM
