  • "This has the ambience of a lovely, old-fashioned (in a good way) supper club--dark walls, comfortable banquettes and tables, excellent, attentive service. The food was excellent, from my perfectly prepared salmon to my friend's fabulous white fish. I told Tortoise Club it was my friend's birthday and they started us off with complimentary glasses of a very nice champagne. Everything was perfect. He couldn't have been happier--and neither could I."

  • "Went here for the first time this week and really enjoyed the meal, space and service. Attentive staff, nice menu and great drinks. We started with the steak tartare and while it was a relatively small serving, the flavor was great and the pretzel crisp toast points were a nice touch. Very good but could have had a more flavor given the noted tabasco as one of the ingredients. Quail egg was also nice. Entrees ranged from cheeseburger to bone-in NY strip and both were very good, though I typically like more "char" on the steak's outside with rare to med-rare on the inside. The inside was cooked as requested but I'm guessing they don't benefit from the highersearing abilities that some of the more notable steak houses use. Try the cherry pie."

  • "A great find! Tortoise Club was highly recommended by two separate friends and we really enjoyed it! I had the crabmeat with avocado served on top of fried green tomato. It was fabulous! The petite filet mignon was perfectly cooked at medium rare and was great! Can't wait to go back and try other items on the menu. The spacing of tables was perfect and not jammed in, providing for private conversation at our table without hearing everyone elses."

  • "The service was superb. My girlfriend's steak was not up to her expectations. When she commented on that, they took the steak back with virtually no questions asked and gave her another selection. The manager came over to make sure we were happy. Her second selection, the NY strip and my halibut were excellent. Steak tartare was one of the best we ever tasted. The jazz trio in the lounge was great. Not loud and not overbearing. We will definitely go back and bring family with us."

Wonderful ambiance, supper club feel, fantastic service, excellent food, nice wine selections, jazz for background music (after 8:30). Went the extra mile, for a birthday celebration.   • "Came for $1 oysters and shrimp cocktail. The oysters, although east coast (from Delaware, just one selection for happy hour pricing), were larger and less briny than most east coasters - really enjoyed them. Shrimp was dry and nothing special. Selection of beer was unimpressive."

  • "Dined 6/14. Loved the ambiance of the place the second we walked in. We were promptly seated for our 8:30 reservation. Then things went down hill. Our server took our drink orders at 9:00. She took another 20 minutes to bring them. Luckily, the food was fantastic. Started with Oysters, which were great. And the pretzel bread and beer cheese - which would have been wonderful, had our server not taken the cheese away before we were finished. I had the bone in strip and my wife had the ribeye. The strip was seasoned well, and the bone marrow crust was delightful. My wife's steak was slightly over cooked. Overall, nice place, great food, just 100% miserable service, which in the end, will make it hard for me to go back."

  • "We were excited to dine here, but ended up dissapointed. Our waitress had the personality & energy of, sorry, a tortoise. After 25 minutes, she finally took our drink order - took another 20 to arrive. Starters, dinner, very slow service & it appeared as if she was bothered by all our ordering! Some liked our food, some not. One had the crab/tomato app & it was the best thing we tasted. Tri toast with OK, another loved the meatballs. Other apps just OK. For dinner, lobster roll, just OK. Two had rouquefort steak, one great, the other very chewy. Other meals just OK. One of us didn't get her meal until 10 mins after us (terrible) pasta and didn't like it. Waitress spilled drink & annoyed we wanted a fresh one! Ended up skipping dessert!"

  • "This is an "old school" elegant dining experience. Attentive, knowledgeable staff. Lots of dark wood, red leather banquettes. Noise level is very low. Steak and seafood menu, but will extra touches to take a step or two above the typical steak and seafood restaurant. They were even able to accommodate my vegan requirements with some very imaginative dishes. We heard about the restaurant on "Check Please" and it definitely did not disapoint."

  • "Had business dinner on Tuesday night. It was busy so reservations are recommended. The ambiance was nice. Service was good and helpful. Selection is "American Fare" which means steaks, chops burgers and fish. We had the whitefish. Presentation was good. The fish was tender and did not taste fishy. Overall a good comfortable dinner, but the noise level was loud."

  • "$50 Dover Sole was not very good. As a market price special should have been much better. Two diners ordere3d, neither liked the look (grey, not white, nor the temp, barely warm), nor the taste ("did not taste like Dover Sole!). On the other hand, steaks, haddock and Service were very good. Bar noise was going into the dining room making conversation difficult."

  • "The food is generally very good and the portions ok, but unlike a Wisconsin Dinner Club the portions on my oyster poor boy were tiny...three or four oysters? Most places realize that another oyster or two will not cost them on the mark up. Also with high priced entrees and expensive cofeee, you can afford to throw away stale coffee and make a fresh pot. They didn't. Accordingly this new find still needs a little work. Otherwise the meal fine. Great soups. Great salads. "

  • "We had a wonderful early, pre-theatre evening with Chimmy, our amiable and attentive server. He had appropriate opinions and recommendations, which were always right on. He oversaw the service at our table with style, panache and just the right amount of attention without crossing over into being inappropriately familiar. We were called by name from the moment we arrived, a very nice touch."

  • "Great location at the base of Marina Towers. Food was fresh, well executed, and good portions. Some of the best tartar i have had (steak and ahi tuna). The server was happy to make some changes to our order so that we were happy. Atmosphere was a bit dark and hushed, but the inside was beautiful and talking was no problem. While the food was pricey, I felt that the food was well worth the price (I frequently cannot say that). Both owners spoke to us and greater us and thanked us for coming. They have a small outdoor dining area but i did not try-might be good for a quick bite or at lunch."
