We would have never found this gem
if it had not been recommended by a friend. Located in a neighborhood on the lower level, it's a bit off the beaten path, but worth the trip for sure. Our waiter knew the menu well, recommended based on our requests and guided us through a delicious dinner. Enjoy your meal, then walk through the neighborhood afterwards!"

I'm not sure what all the fuss is
about. The entrees that my wife got were bland, uninteresting. Disappointed, especially after reading the reviews here. In all fairness, the appetizers were very good, hence the "good" rating. Decent service. Reasonable prices. Shady neighborhood, next to a housing project. Be careful at night."

This may be my new favorite
Italian restaurant in DC. The food was delicious - we samples most of the pastas as well as a special, and the appetizers were also very good. A little bit noisy when we got there but not too bad, and prices are pretty reasonable for the quality of food you're getting. Will definitely be coming back!"

My wife and I dined here on a warm
spring weekend night. We found nearby street parking. We ordered the burrata cheese salad, lamb agnolotti and the spinach risotto with quail which were all well presented and full of flavor. The servers were very attentive and the food arrived extremely fast -- almost too fast -- given that we had planned a more leisurely dinner. Once we finished dessert (the dark and milk chocolate cake) we felt under pressure from the servers to depart the table, even though we had only been in the restaurant for about 90 minutes at that point. Would go again perhaps at a time of the week when they weren't so busy and not as anxious for us to depart."

The staff, especially our waiter
Anthony, was very friendly and professional. The food was excellent. From our appetizers to our entrees (no dessert - we were full!). Calamari was made perfectly. Everybody makes it, but few make it as tender as Tortino's. My wife's salad with the orange dressing was fresh and she loved it. I would recommend my entree. It was a squid ink pasta with spinach and shrimp. I am trying to eat less pasta, but being Italian, I am addicted. There was just enough pasta mixed with the spinach to get my fix and it was delicious. It's not the same old same old. We have not been in DC in a long time and found that it has a lot of restaurants. Do yourself a favor and add it to your must go restaurant in DC. We have!"

Service staff could have been more
attentive...we had to ask for refills multiple times, they offered us more bread but then never brought it out, and then we waited over 15 minutes before taking our dessert order. Still, food was excellent and will bring us back."

Took a chance on this based on
reviews. Bad day? Mabe. So noisy it is hard to have a conversation my sea bass was ok but can't mess it up to bad. My wife had veal that looked like hamburger and was very tough. Will no go back"

This gem of a restaurant serves
some of the finest italian food I've ever eaten. Everything was fresh, delicious, flavorful, and unique. Me and my sister agreed that although a bizarre choice of words for a restaurant, we would describe the food as "wholesome"; every bite was worth it! I will definitely be back as soon as I am in the city again!"

Wait staff was very friendly, food
was excellent. We started with the Prosciutto de Parma which was the milder type, not too salty. I had the Duck which had a delicious port wine/mission fig sauce with lots of roasted winter vegetables . My Wife's Pasta was homemade. She loved it. A nice bottle of wine was not overly expensive either. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the bill was more than reasonable considering it's DC. . Our for less than $100. Just a lovely place."

We very much enjoyed the fried
calamari light, crispy with a refreshing spicy tomato sauce. The lamb ravioli was excellent especially due to the savory mushroom sauce. The home made pasta was prepared with the right al dente texture."

Quaint little restaurant hidden in
a somewhat rough neighborhood, but once inside the ambiance was quite charming, clean, and comfortable. Prices are definitely reasonable. Food was very good. Service was excellent."

Everything about Tortino's is so
inviting. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a lovely woman with the warmest smile who made us feel as if we were regulars. The wait staff is extremely well trained - they were very attentive, yet not overly. The food is delicious!! Truly. The salads were so fresh and the lemon/olive oil dressing was just right! The osso bucco was divine! Fell off the bone - great comfort food on a freezing cold Washington DC night. The pasta was fabulous, although the portion was a bit small relative to the other choices. Our waiter was great - he was honest and didn't try to oversell! Very refreshing! We will definitely go back. It was very reasonable, relaxing, and delicious! I would definitely recommend!"

You may find it interesting that
the one of the best Italian restaurants in the DC Metro area is owned and operated by a El Salvadorian. Plus most of the staff is El Salvadorian as well. Don't be in doubt though. Food i phenomenal, and the service is nothing less than that."

I took my girlfriend here last
night for a late-valentine's day celebration and we were blown away. The food was absolutely incredible and so inexpensive that my wallet was as happy as my stomach. We didn't have any wine or desserts, although their wine list was quite large from what I saw, and they had a nice variety of quality/prices to suit any dinner. There were people there in business casual attire, dresses, heels, as well as people in jeans and untucked shirts. There weren't any booths, which I tend to prefer for romantic outings, but everything else was so incredible I have to give it 5 stars. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive date night/good Italian food."

Outstanding house-made pasta. The
gnocchi with pesto, the agnolotti with lamb, the ravioli with buffalo mozzarella, and the fettucine bolognese were all amazing. The calamari with spicy tomato sauce was all terrific -- perfectly fried with a light batter, not greasy, and served with a delicious spicy tomato sauce. Service was superb -- polite, friendly, and accommodating without being overly solicitous. Prices were incredibly reasonable for DC. So glad to have discovered this place. Will definitely return again and again."

All I can say is that the DC area
could use more places like this. Tortino is a quaint and intimate restaurant, similar to what you'd find in the NY/NJ area. It is not a chain; it is not part of a "group of restaurants"; it can't seat 100+ people at a time. It is what it is: a small, family owned place that takes pride in it's food/service. I just wish it was a BYOB. Anyway..the service was great, as was the food. The agnolotti di agnello (homemade lamb ravioli) was honestly one of the best dishes I've had in recent memory. It was truly exceptional. All in all - check it out, support the mom and pop shop. These guys work hard and do a great job. I highly recommended it."

This is a classic italian restaurant, if you're looking for a "gourmet/fusion" place, this may not be the place you're looking for. If you like real/classic italian food, but really really good, you should definitely go there. - Highly recommend their seafood linguini, one of the best I've had. - 5-star service, felt like an old-school restaurant. - Can improve the ambience a bit, maybe some italian music to complete the environment. - Can't wait to go back!"
