Diner Reviews
  • "After reading some of the other reviews we were somewhat skeptical to try the restaurant but our experience at Tortilla Republic was terrific - the server was friendly & attentive. She knew the menu well & made good suggestions. The ahi fajitas & salmon were delicious as was the vegetarian enchillada. We sat on the patio...although there was some street & restaurant noise we had no problem conversing. Parking was easy - we parked in the lot behind the restaurant. Definitely look forward to returning."

  • "Went here for restaurant week and was not disappointed. The white sangria was so refreshing on the hot summer day. The tortilla flatbread with the squash blossoms was nice and light. The star was the avocado leaf crusted halibut, which is my favorite fish; it was cooked perfectly and served on a bed of kale and mashed sweet potato (large portion and I couldn't finish it because I wanted to save room for dessert). I had the most amazing dessert, the flourless chocolate cake baked with red pepper spice or something similar, with the salty caramel gelato. This had an initial sweet smooth chocolate taste, followed by the salty sweet caramel and finished with the spice kick in the end. Delicious! I'm definitely coming back."

  • "I have been unhappy w/ the scarcity of good Mexican in BH and nearby. We went to Tortilla Republic because I saw its menu and address in DineLA. We sat on the patio (that why it was quiet). The food was excellent, and the server very warm as well as efficient. we will definitely come here often. Great margarita on special too."

  • "I tried the restaurant during LA Dine week, hoping it would be something new and fun. Sadly, it wasn't. They did the whole "would you like some chips and salsa" then charging us $2 for the average chips and $8 for guacamole we didn't even want. The waiter was distracted and couldn't keep track of our order and it was hard to get the water refilled. Basically its overpriced average Mexican food"

  • "Great service, fun, nice menu, overall fun and exciting place. Best place in West Hollywood that's reasonable priced."

  • "The food itself was terrific as was our server. But the noise level on a Friday night is extreme. We were celebrating our first "official" anniversary. Unfortunately it was Dine LA week and we were seated at a table for two between two six-tops. The drunken screams and yelps from the tables on either side made it impossible to enjoy dinner. It was a disaster. We could not hear each other at all. Never eating here on a weekend night again."

  • "The food was nothing exceptional...even over-priced, but I only tried the chips, house margs, and mole enchiladas. However, the ambiance is pleasant and hip and the service was superb."

  • "We live down the street, so it is an easy place to frequent, especially for happy hour since they are one of the few places that has outdoor seating and if you hit happy hour early during the week, it is not too busy. However the past several occasions, we have had a waiter that literally wears the look on his face of "what the heck am I doing here-I hate my job". We have had the same guy serve us three times, all with the same type of service. That was the last time as we will now take our business elsewhere. What a shame, as it is an easy spot for us."

  • "The food was only OK. The server was friendly and nice. We were there for dinner at happy hour on a Friday. It was WAY too loud to even have a conversation at the table. I'm going to give it another chance, but not at 5:30p on a Friday!"

  • "I had a great evening of dinner and drinks! I made my reservation a few days in advance and the host called the day of to confirm. I just want to say thank you to Jason for filing my request for a patio table. You guys rock and I'll definitely continue to dine here when I am in West Hollywood. Thanks again!"

  • "As I approached the restaurant, I panicked at the noise spilling out on the sidewalk. We were meeting friends to catch up. Not possible to catch up with the hubbub inside. Luckily, our friends arrived before us and were already seated in the "rope" room, where the noise level was about 1073 decibels less. My friend had read a review with a recommendation about the "rope" room. I add my recommendation. The other part of the restaurant looked like fun if you don't mind yelling over the din. There's city public parking right behind the restaurant. You don't have to pay exorbitant valet parking fees. The food was very good and the margaritas even better. We'll go back to the rope room."

  • "This restaurant has everything a gay man wants to be in a great social restaurant scene. The service was excellent and food delicious! The crowd was pretty much a good looking gay crowd. It was my first time to have dinner and will be coming back again. Cheers!"

  • "What is served in TR is not authentic Mexican food In my opinion. They serve an 'invented' and unnecessarily complicated menu which has no great or outstanding taste for a reasonably high price. In fact this restaurant is a fancy place to enjoy the good ambient and not the food. Bar and drinks are excellent but the food sucks."

  • "I dont really expect much from mexican cuisine restaurants because they usually fail to impress me. Being mexican myself I do have a higher standard of what good mexican food is. Tortilla Republic pleasantly surprised me! I had the mole enchiladas and the mole was very good. My friend had the shrimp taco appetizer and she really enjoyed them. The ambiance was great and the drinks were good. 2 negatives - Our waiter was slow and didnt have much of a personality, so that was a bummer. Also the restaurant charges for salsa, which I found very odd. When a waiter asks if you'd like chips and salsa I don't think the majority of customers would assume that they would then be charged almost $4 for SALSA!"

  • "I took my best friend for her bday here and we absolutely loved it! I am craving every dish that I had there from the tacos, to the guacamole to the salad! Also the waiter have great recommendations and was geniune! I will definitely be back soon! Thanku for making us feel so welcome!"

  • "Perhaps it was because it was a holiday weekend and maybe the regular chef took some time off but........after the guacamole, it was all downhill. The food was only lukewarm (not a first here), my husband's short rib was nothing short of boiled meat in hot water (not their usual preparation) and my duck enchiladas were cloyingly sweet......again, not the way I've had them before. It was as though someone stuck the sweet duck meat used for the tacos in some tortillas and doused them in sauce. My vegetarian friend could barely get through her chile rellanos and let's face it, it's pretty hard to mess up a vegetable dish. We are all so disappointed!"

  • "Went to Tortilla Republic to check it out for an upcoming pre-wedding celebration. The food was delicious and very well presented and the service was excellent - attentive and friendly. The decor is casual and comfortale. We would definitely recommend Tortilla Republic and will be holding our event there. An added plus is that the catering director is a pleasure to work with. "

  • "Dining at Tortilla Republic was an overall great experience. Every member of the staff was friendly and accommodating unlike many of the neighboring restaurants. The food and drinks were exceptional. The scene was energetic. I look forward to dining here again."

  • "I always love the food here. Drinks are nice pours. The waiting staff is always friendly. It can get a little loud with the music at night making it difficult to hear everyone at a table of 4 or more. (i don't like screaming at the table) But all and all I enjoy the place immensely. "

  • "Food was not the same... Seems the food quality is going down. Burnt chicken fajitas.. Verde sauce was more like brown gravy. Luckily they still make good drinks. Good bar scene. "

  • "There are a number of Mexican food restaurants in Los Angeles, but very few stick out in the crowd. Tortilla Republic is one of the better Mexican food restaurants in LA in my opinion. I've been a number of times already, and the Pork chop al Pastor and their Carnitas are excellent. I tend to judge a Mexican restaurant by the quality of their margaritas, and they make some excellent ones. No sugary 'sweet and sour' mix, just well made, hand crafted drinks. Try the Cucumber-Lavender Margarita."

  • "The food was just good - not amazing or spectacular but good! The service however, was SPECTACULAR !!! Our favorite bartender Bruce greeted us with warmth and enthusiasm as always and made us feel like old friends returning for another dinner party - and made us the best jalapeño margaritas this side of Texas! Then our waiter Anthony gave us great attention and a feeling that we're special - in West Hollywood that's hard to find! So then another friend arrived and he made room for him without missing a step! Thanks Guys!"

  • "my boyfriend and I visited for the first time after hearing about an 'Easter egg hunt' special they were doing for Easter Sunday for brunch. Food was delicious. It was definitely a packed house so the service was a little inconsistent but being servers to we completely understood. The pictures on the website don't do this place justice. It's got kind of a NYC West Village type of vibe and very breezy and sunny in the daytime. We sat on the patio which was quite lovely. At they end they brought out an Easter basket full of golden eggs and we both got free guac for if we decide to go back. Fun times :)"

  • "This restaurant is noisy, the service is very slow (but waitress was very nice) and food is okay. To start we ordered gucamole for $8. It came with a big basket of chips but no salsa. The salsa is extra. I had fajitas that arrived with a thimble sized amount of salsa. What does this restaurant have agaist salsa?"

  • "Get the CHURROS!!! I'm glad I don't live closer, otherwise I would be here eating churros every night. This place has spoiled me. They put a twist on every single dish. Only the names are familiar. Just have a look at the menu. It tastes as good as it sounds. I like the service here because it's relaxed. The servers aren't all over you like what you might experience at some restaurants but it's smooth and prompt. Also the ambiance is as good as the food. It's going to be difficult to go anywhere else for Mexican food in the future."

  • "This is absolutely one of my favorite places. The food is good - perhaps not the best you'll find - but it's good nonetheless. Lately they've been having some pretty spectacular "specials" which have been a nice change - as I've been here many, many times. The service is generally great, I've never really had any problems there. Why this is one of my favorite places hands down is the atmosphere (it's got a trendy, upscale feel - but I've dined there in my gym clothes on more than one occasion!).... and of course, the margaritas. The margaritas are simply the best I've had in town. If you're interested in a more quiet atmosphere simply ask to be seated in the 'rope room", its in the back of the restaurant where its generally empty."

  • "Love Tortilla Republic. The food, the staff, the service, and ambiance are all great. I've been a loyal fan and customer since you opened. You've always managed to provide a quality restaurant experience at a great value (making you a neighborhood staple). However, during Taco Tuesday a couple of days ago ... you really should have mentioned that a pitcher of ice-filled margaritas would be $60 ($72 with tip)! As a courtesy, the bartender should have alerted me to the fact that (a) the Tuesday night promotional margarita pricing had passed and (b) that what I was about to order had such a steep price tag. BUYERS BEWARE!!!"

  • "Waitress was inattentive kept us waiting for drinks and fail to ask to ask us when we were ready to place our order was nice to bring us two baskets of chips as we got full ...hostess or manger came by ask if something was wrong we told we being waiting awhile and the wateriness has not bother to place our oder yet Taco Tuesday we all doubled our order normal is 2 tacos for six dollars we ask if we can one more to make it three each we have to order a 2 full order making it 4 tacos each ..ok we got 8 tacos and we then ask her where the other four were she said we double one order and that was not the case made it out that it was our fault when we place the order we paid our bill then grab her payment didn't say thank you or sorry about"
