  • "Not your typical American mx food... Thankfully! Great flavors... Delish....."

  • "Great flavor combinations. Fresh, tasty. Great salads, fish and flatbread with mushrooms. Yum. Wish they still offered the Poipu Heat drink."

  • "The team working at this restaurant are all excellent at what they do! They went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable, starting on the phone when making reservations and all the way to the end when our plates were politely taken away with pleasant, short conversation. We spent the perfect night out at The Tortilla Republic and look forward to next time."

  • "We are so glad we came back...great food...great service, and management that care. We will be back again and again."

  • "My family went later in the evening, and had a wonderful table on the second floor. The staff was very friendly and talkative, making all of us feel like part of some big family. And the food was incredible! Particularly the chicken fajitas - very good choice if you plan on dining here."

  • "I have been to Tortilla Republic at least 20 times. I love the food and atmosphere and its what keeps me coming back but the service there is consistently extremely slow. This past visit we waited at least 10 minutes before anyone even brought us water and it was almost 30 minutes before my glass of wine appeared. The manager was more attentive than our server, noticing our drinks, chips, salsa, needed refilling when she did not. I realize we are on Kauai and the pace is slower, but that shouldn't apply to service."

  • "When in Hawaii, I always eat fish, but every now and then I need Mexican food. We ate upstairs which has a more sophisticated menu than the more casual fare downstairs. Try the salsa tasting. Between the table, we had shrimp fajitas, carnitas and the short ribs. The short ribs were succulent and fork tender, the carnitas were saucy and tasty, the shrimp fajitas were OK - more veggies than shrimp. This place is worth a visit."

  • "Hands down one of the best Mexican meals I've ever had. This is a do not miss if you live in Kauai or are visiting. Also don't forget to order the guacamole cause it's unbelievable."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "The best part of the meal was the tableside made guacamole appetizer. I had the fish (5 pieces of seared ahi on red and green peppers and cooked onions) fajitas, which was ok. One gripe, which may be personal to me, is that the chip salsa was reminiscent of canned enchilada sauce--very smooth, not chunky. I did not care for it, but that may be a peronal taste. The chips were good. There was a good selection of beer--Mexican, local Hawaiian, and mainland (like Budweiser). Some of the previous comments have faulted the service, which we found was outstanding. We may eat there again (we live in Kauai), but my recommendation is to have the guacamole appetizer and then a couple of appetizers for your main course."

  • "We've eaten here last year and found the service lacking. Tried again this year and found the service deplorable. The only person we found to be of assistance was the hostess and unfortunately, she wasn't serving us."

  • "Great food selection and wonderful atmosphere. Definitely recommend! "

  • "The food was hit or miss. My catch of the day, Ono, was very over cooked on the grill and dry. I had to hack into it with a knife and pull it apart. My partner's steak fajitas came with only FOUR small pieces of steak on a mountain of peppers... Hardly $26 worth of fajitas. The salsa tasting was tasty and so was the flautas. We were excited to return after a nice experience two years ago, but I'm not sure we'll be back. "

  • "Great tequila, really good food and a nice view of the sunset. Table side guacamole was very tasty!"

  • "We dined upstairs (more of an upscale menu than downstairs menu) for the second time since moving to Kauai and the food was excellent as usual. On our previous trip, both my husband and I had the braised short ribs. EXCELLENT! This time my husband had the tortilla soup and carnitas. He raved about the flavor of the soup and the carnitas served in a tomatillo sauce was excellent. I had the fish and it was excellent as well. I highly recommend this place if you are in the Poipu area. As with most restaurants on Kauai, the prices are a bit on the high side, but well worth it! "

  • "Table side guacamole by Pedro is worth the trip. Shrimp Fajitas excellent. Tasty bean salad. Friendly service. First stop in Poipu"

  • "A great Mexican food restaurant with a nice Hawaiian flare. The service and food were excellent."

  • "I really enjoyed their Kobe Style hamberger a week after I disappointed their breakfast. I gave them a try but their lunch was so good! My friend ordered soup and that's good, too. Server had no smile and never came to our table to ask about our food. But he came quick to give us a bill and take payment. "

  • "We have tried both doing areas more than once and much prefer the upstairs area. We will definitely return but the downstairs is noisy, fewer menu options and just not the same experience. "

  • "Found this place too late into our vacation week or we would have went more. Fantastic food- dinner and breakfast! Best place in Poipu!!"

  • "I've been there for lunch and dinner. both were so good. I expected breakfast is equally good, but I won't go breakfast again. overpriced and taste was not good. but I will go back to lunch or dinner"

  • "I will definitely come back. I love the trendy atmosphere, but the service was top notch. All staff were polite and aware of me the minute I arrived. Addressing by name and making sure i was comfortable while waiting for the rest of my party. Everything was fresh and with layers of flavor. Too full to have dessert, but i was definitely tempted. This my 5th or 6th time coming. Never have been disappointed."

  • "Great restaurant for happy hour tapas and drinks. Regular menu prices a little high for the portions, but great appetizers to share."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Food was really good, I felt it was Mexican with an island or Hawaiian twist or flare. Overall I was satisfied and would go back. The table side gauc was great, the homemade chips were just as good. We split an app (chicken faltas?) and chicken fajitas. Both were good, not great. The staff was attentive. We sat upstairs, and the view is an open air style mall, so no beach or ocean, but it was a nice experience- it was a nice break from the more "formal" quiet dining places we had been to. I would definitely go back."

  • "Second time we ate at TR - very good - especially the guacamole and the short ribs. A must on the South shore."

  • "Lively popular restaurant. Good food with interesting flavors - well priced. Did feel rushed to get order in before the large group and then waited to get another drink."

  • "We went one night and ate downstairs. I had the Ahi tacos and they were the bomb! A party in your mouth!! It was so good that our friends offered to buy us dinner anywhere we wanted. We picked this place, but ate upstairs and they didn't have the tacos up there...bummer, I really wanted them again! Although I had the shrimp mole and my husband had the mole chicken poblano enchilada and they were both excellent. Also, try the table side guacamole."

  • "Very interesting ambiance in the main restaurant upstairs. Felt like I was in an upscale mainland city restaurant. The food is very unique and extremely tasty. We tried a little of everything and loved it all. However, be careful of the chocolate cake. It is made with hot peppers and burns the mouth. If you love spicy then I recommend the cake. The service was good but not great. But they were attentive. I recommend getting the tableside guacamole. The woman who prepared the guacamole for us was very friendly and helped make our experience memorable. I highly recommend trying this restaurant. *F*I*V*E* Stars for food and atmosphere."

  • "The General Manager's hospitality was the best. Courtney, our waitress, did an excellent job of making us feel welcome and meeting our needs. She helped us with selections and brought our food to us in a timely manner. We cannot say enough about the warmth of this restaurant."

  • "Enjoy Kauai every trip, and this Location is our favorite over the N. Hollywood location. Courtney has been our regular server and always delivers great friendly service. Love there cut on Mexican style food, best in the Islands."

  • "Two of three meals were really bad. The third was only ok. Pretty place, so I really wanted to like it. Too bad. Waiter giid, because t far too talkative."
    Dined on 12/3/2013
  • "our drinks were not served until after we had finished our appetizers, our server seemed to be preoccupied in the kitchen, that's were he was when I went looking for our drinks. Service for the rest of the meal was also very slow, the restaurant was not that busy, but hey, who wants to eat before your drink gets watered down. The food when we did get it was very good. The view, was not great, unless you like to look at nothing but a tree."

  • "I know, a Mexican restaurant in Hawaii... But this place has a lot of potential. We were a bit disappointed by some fairly easy things to fix so hopefully they read up and get things sorted out: - jalapeño margarita - somehow this was about 3x hotter than eating an actual jalapeño so I would not recommend this to many people. I happen to love spicy foods and I could barely drink it. - fajitas - while a Mexican food staple, these were served with considerably more oil than necessary and I found the beer fajitas to be overcooked. Also, I've never had fajitas with quartered tomatoes in them but that kind of makes this place unique vs. ruining the dish. Overall this place wasn't terrible but for the price I expected more."

  • "My husband and I were thrilled to enjoy our last meal on Kauai at Tortilla Republic. Even better, we live only blocks away from their West Hollywood Location! The owners were there to greet us and the service was friendly and attentive. This restaurant is not to be missed while you visit the Island!"

  • "We love the Tortilla Republic restaurant! The food is superb. The only reason I couldn't give it all 5 stars is the prices are slightly out of reach of our budget - we have to save up for a couple of months before we go. It is in a tourist-y section of the island and the rent is probably high, but there was only one other local couple dining. Otherwise it is one of our two favorite places to eat."

  • "My wife and I dined here one night for our honeymoon. I put a simple message into my reservation that we'd be there for our honeymoon. When our table was ready, we were met with glasses of champagne from the hostess and congratulations. A+ for service. The food was very good as well. You'll pay a little more than at home for the food, but it's Hawaii. We tried the salsa sampler and received an ample amount of chips and four different, and very good salsas. The entrees were equally as good and well presented. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Kauai."
