A word from Torrisi Italian Specialties
Torrisi is a boutique tasting room located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan that specializes in Italian-American cuisine. Opening in 2010, Torrisi has matured into one of the city's most acclaimed restaurants. In 2012, Torrisi received a Michelin Star and was also named the #1 Italian Restaurant in the City by NY Magazine.

Using exclusively domestic products, Torrisi has cultivated a dining experience that pays homage to the history and culture of New York City while remaining distinctly Italian-American in philosophy and technique. Torrisi offers a Nine Course Tasting Menu: available for lunch and dinner. This dynamic restaurant continues to grow and change. It continues to push the boundaries of what Italian-American cuisine means, and to redefine the traditional paradigms of fine dining.

  • "I went here for a birthday celebration. We ordered the tasting menu, which was very, very good. Inventive dishes with a lot of Asian influences. Definitely not what I expected from the name of the restaurant or some of what I've heard about the place. However, I was not disappointed, as pretty much everything was excellent. The only downsides to this place are things that are beyond anyone's control- the restaurant is very small, so if it was filled to capacity, I could see it feeling very cramped inside and potentially very noisy. Also, there is quite a steep slope at the entrance to the restaurant, so handicapped and elderly people beware. That is really me trying to find something negative to say, nit-picking. A definite repeat visit."

  • "Food was very carefully prepared and plated with extra chef's specials brought out. The first half was a lot of seafood courses (including octopus, tuna tartare), the second half, meats and pastas (squid ink, gnocchi, veal, lamb). No spirits available for drinks. I don't like lamb and had the waygu beef for a $30 up charge. Tuna and veal dish--meat was softly puréed like baby food, not consistency of ground beef that I'm used to. After the seafood courses, we had a series of meat and pastas that were too rich, served in succession. My waygu beef course could have been a separately priced entree- it arrived with a bowl of rich, but deliciously sweet polenta and a salad. Several of the dishes were too salty. Our stomachs felt like lead after."

  • "Went for a one-year wedding anniversary, restaurant was small, and very private from the street which was nice. 9- course tasting menu. Everything that came out looked perfect, and tasted perfect. It was well done, simple, yet interesting and delicious Italian-style food, but not heavy. They had a squid ink pasta with octopus, dressed with chili oil and bread crumbs (I have never really enjoyed octopus, until now) that I could have eaten every day for the rest of my life, a trout francese that melted in your mouth, and many more amazing courses I don't have space to write about. It was a perfect meal, left me incredibly happy, satisfied and not at all upset about the price-it's totally worth every penny and then some."

  • "Made reservations here for a midday lunch with my mother during our visit to NYC from CA. Our annual trips to NYC are centered around restaurants we want to try, and this will absolutely be one I will revisit anytime I am in the city again! The staff was lovely and attentive, but not overbearing. The mozzarella was so good that we ordered a second serving- it melts in your mouth and the olive oil they use is perfection. The choices for the prix fixe meal were superb, and we left full and happy. I know the menu changes frequently, but the gnocchi was not to be missed! Love how tiny the restaurant is, and recommend the corner table if possible for a great view of the sous chef prepping the ricotta I am apparently still coveting... Enjoy!"

  • "All tasting menu... little bites... full of flavor"

  • "The nine course tasting menu was absolutely wonderful. There's an option to get the 12 course, which would have been even more fun, but 9 courses was about the limit of what I could eat without feeling ill and being able to eat every single morsel on every plate (i'm a small woman but eat heartily). What I found significant was that all courses were equally strong - you don't come across that very often. I would go back in a heartbeat!"

  • "Not traditional Italian that I really like. However,I was not satisfied entrees. All restaurants are same, fish or meet. I hope they have cocktails."
    Dined on 4/6/2014
  • "Food was adventurous, but unexciting. Several of the dishes totally uninspiring and one - mackerel - inedible. No liquor license and wine unconsciounably overpriced. No breads. Definitely not worth the trip -- or the $$$."

  • "Overall, B. A tasting menu @ $500+ with tip for 2 with wine pairing should be impeccable. Tables were very crowded together but my major critique was that the wine pairing was in no way as good as the food which was very good. I'd expect all pairings to be exceptional. I found one of the wine parings to be that, the red with the wagu beef. The Long Island Rose we were given for one of the tastings, we ask the waiter to take back. Cute little place, work on the wine selection please."

  • "Celebrated our wedding anniversary at Torrisi. Outstanding meal. A 10 course tasting menu. Each course unique. One of the best dining experiences ever!"

  • "one of the best restaurants in nyc. truly underappreciated. incredible innovation in the food, spot on taste and fantastic service. my only critique would be that the wine list is a little too pricey. otherwise just excellent"

  • "The food at Torrisi is exceptional - most dishes can compete with the best in the city. Unfortunately they are now imposing a 9 course tasting menu which can easily be too much food. It's not great when you are fairly full and there are still two savory courses to come. The pacing is also a challenge, with many of the courses arriving one after the other, but fairly long waits between other courses. The services is pretty minimal, mostly just putting plates on the table. The wine list is extremely limited in the under $100/bottle category. It is still worth going for the food, but it was much nicer when a shorter menu was an option."

  • "Lovely dining experience in this small intimate restaurant. Food was beautifully presented and prepared creatively. Flavors were interesting and combined well. Where many restaurants rely on a heavy salt flavor, foods here had acidic flavors that were pleasing and experimental."

  • "This extraordinary Italian bistro has some of the finest food you will put in your mouth. I found myself looking forward to the pork belly a year later when I came back to NYC only to see they had changed the menu. Oh no! The change in the menu was even better and now I can anxiously anticipate the lox for next year."

  • "Spectacular food, prepared with great care, creativity and passion. Refined dining without any pretentiousness. The entire experience, from the service to the food is one of a kind"

  • "Great fixed price menu!! The quality of the food and flavors at Torrisi is beyond excellence! The attention to details is outstanding. Will definitely be back as the menu changes every few months. Very cozy and romantic place."

  • "this was the best meal i have had in quite a while. every course was delicious and interesting, the space is charming and the dishes are lovely. this restaurant is now at the top of my list for special occasions and recommendations. my only complaint is the wine list is very expensive with the cheapest bottle nearly $100 and many glasses more than $20 (some over $100). the corkage fee is $50."

  • "Exquisite set menu with unusual flavor combinations in a small but comfortable space."

  • "The food was simply outstanding in every way, and the service was exceptional as well. That said, diners should be aware that the minimum fixed price for the tasting menu is $100. per person, and there are daily specials that can add further to that price. Our bill for 2, with a total of 3 glasses of wine between us, tax and tip included, was $455. So it is extremely expensive. But it was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had."

  • "Would not change a thing about my experience. Celebrated an anniversary here, food was phenomenal and it was one of my top five best dining experiences."

  • "My husband and I went to Torrisi on a Wednesday night to celebrate our anniversary. First, let me say that the food was delicious. However, the service was incredibly slow and simply lacking; courses rolled out (for us) at a snails pace -- at the start of the night we were waiting for our second course and the tables on either side of us were served two in the interim -- and no one bothered to offer us another round of drinks (or come over in general, with the exception of the person refilling our water glasses). And personally, the tables were a little too close for us to have any real private conversation, especially with the couple next to us engaged in a very emotional argument for their entire dining experience."

  • "My fiance and I went for a belated Valentine's dinner. All of the courses were delicious; we especially enjoyed the duck course w/ foie gras. The portions were appropriate, and there was a good fix of flavors. The service was also great. They came around to refill our water frequently, and the takeaway dessert course was a nice treat, and very thoughtful. The only minor issue I would point out is that there are extremely close quarters in the restaurant and it is difficult to get in and out of your seat if you need to get up to use the restroom, but this is often the case at NYC restaurants..."

  • "A small gem!!!! Unbelievably creative food!!! There is only a set menu with 9-10 courses. But what eye-openers!!! Italian food full of whimsy!!! One of the best in NYC. A difficult reservation in a tiny space. Terrific wine list full of Italian treasures."

  • "An absolutely great find for lunch or for dinner. The food is delicious, service is courteous and the ambiance romantic even at lunch time. It's a tiny 20-seat restaurant so reservations are a must."

  • "This intimate dining experience was so fun and delicious that I highly recommend it to serious foodies. This was a tasting menu with limited choice but careful about food restrictions. Attention to detail was incredible and it is clear that the staff cares about their clients and are proud of their food. They are accommodating and respectful and since you are elbow to elbow with your neighbor, you become good, fast friends. David Beckham's appearance added to the happy atmosphere."

  • "I've heard raves about Torrisi, and it didn't disappoint. The 9 course tasting menu delivered small tastes of very creative and delicious dishes. Wine is a bit over-priced, but it was a special occasion."

  • "I've eaten everywhere from 11 Mad to WD to Daniel to per se to Le Bernardin to dive restaurants and ramen joints. This was spectacular based on the service and attention to the perfect dishes. Great price at 100 per person for a 10 course tasting menu that absolutely fills you by evening's end. I will absolutely recommend this to friends and family et al."

  • "I'm amazed that Michelin gave this place a star. I remember when it opened, or at least turned itself from a grocery into a restaurant, and Sam Sifton raved about it. I think it's one thing if you're a humble grocery store that starts churning out good food, no reservations, limited menu, at a (then) reasonable price; quite another when you've got a Michelin star and taking yourself really seriously. It's a noisy, overcrowded storefront. I don't remember a single thing that I ate (never a good sign, for me) and while I'm sure the food was fine (I don't remember anything being terrible), it was, IMHO greatly overpriced and overrated. I think there may be am Emperor's New Clothes syndrome going on here. Would not go back."
