A word from Torrisi Italian Specialties
Torrisi is a boutique tasting room located on Mulberry Street in Manhattan that specializes in Italian-American cuisine. Opening in 2010, Torrisi has matured into one of the city's most acclaimed restaurants. In 2012, Torrisi received a Michelin Star and was also named the #1 Italian Restaurant in the City by NY Magazine.

Using exclusively domestic products, Torrisi has cultivated a dining experience that pays homage to the history and culture of New York City while remaining distinctly Italian-American in philosophy and technique. Torrisi offers a Nine Course Tasting Menu: available for lunch and dinner. This dynamic restaurant continues to grow and change. It continues to push the boundaries of what Italian-American cuisine means, and to redefine the traditional paradigms of fine dining.

Diner Reviews
  • "The food was inconsistent. There were some brilliant courses but too many pedestrian courses especially for the price. The staff was wonderful. The room is small and welcoming. The wine list was entirely expensive with no moderate selections. I can't imagine returning."

  • "We loved the meal, but with 9 courses you'd think you'd be satiated afterwards.... unfortunately, most courses were just a nosh or a bite. This may be tasting course, but seriously, it was really a joke. The tables on both sides of us felt the same way, as we were hoping the main course was bigger. It was... it was 4 bites. If the cost is higher due to the labor, which I can imagine, make the portions larger and charge more. I had to get a crepe afterwards down the street because I left hungry. For a $400 bill, I was disappointed."

  • "Everything was delicious. Duck dish with all sorts of watermelon incarnations was our least favorite and tried too hard. Other than that, perfect for a special occasion."

  • "The food was very good and based on contemporary reinterpretations of Italian/American fare. The tasting menu concept is also something interesting. Service was nice and efficient. The only negative aspect was the very expensive and restrictive wine list - I recommend bringing your own bottle. One to come back for sure."

  • "High prices with no justification. They try to be gourmet but the result is below average"

  • "5 stars for - The wine suggestion from our waiter which was ridiculously spot-on with the entire menu. - The pace of the meal was perfect. - The hospitality (my name tag on the take home petit fours box, they overheard me discuss with my boyfriend that it was his birthday and made sure Happy Birthday was written on our dessert with a candle - such a pleasant surprise.) - The food. Creative, perfectly portioned, delicious. One of the best meals I've had in NYC."

  • "Great intimate vibe.. Each dish is flawless executed in the kitchen and perfectly described by the staff."

  • "Highly recommended if you want to experience some innovative cuisine and delicious pairings. Each dish in the set menu was an experience, at times simply from the original pairing of basic fresh ingredients. The pace of the meal was comfortable, with each dish presented at the right time with a clear explanation by the servers. The restaurant is small with just a few tables. An evening we will remember...."

  • "My dining companion and I thought that there was an ala carte menu as well as the tasting menu. We are somewhat picky eaters, so tastings aren't for us. When we arrived, we were told that the only choice was a $100 per person tasting menu, and that if we didn't use our reservation, I would be charged $100 on the credit card I used to book the table through OpenTable. There was no negotiating with the staff and all they said is, "We'll try to work with you on food allergies." We were stuck and unhappy, and frankly, they didn't care one bit. Out paraded a series of tiny bites of food with massive attitude-- plating is king here, and you are spending a good deal of your money to pay for all the accessories. I'm never going back..."

  • "Totally enjoyed our experience. Food and service were excellent. They were very accommodating as we had food allergies and they instantly whipped up an excellent substitution. will definitely recommend."

  • "The best restaurant i ve been two. Far superior than Heston's, Jean Georges, el Buli, or any Michellin starred restaurant u ve been two."

  • "Very special, delicious! Only complaint... there are no reasonably priced bottles of wine. Be prepared to spend $100 a bottle."
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "Service was exceptional, place was bit too dark, most of the food was memorable although some of the selections were disappointing, seems like more attention was paid to trying to make the presentation different at the expense of the taste"

  • "Torrisi offers a prix fixe 9 course menu, and you can substitute the main meat course with their signature rib-eye, which we highly recommend. The food is delicious and plentiful and the wine pairings are good if not inspired. We only had one course that we disliked (a scallop that did not seem fresh) but everything else was delicious. We had a relatively early reservation and noticed that they served us both of the pasta courses at once, while the couple next to us, who arrived later, was served them separately, so we'd advise making a later reservation to allow more time to enjoy all of the courses. It's a relaxed, fun environment and service is attentive and friendly. Terrific value for the quality."

  • "The food was very good but none of the courses were outstanding. I really enjoyed the trout but was disappointed in the salmon because it was very fishy. Very small portions but with 10 courses you don't leave terribly hungry. The palat cleanser, a lemon ginger sorbet, had entirely too much ginger and dessert was less than par. It's a nice place to go once for the experience but certainly not worth the price tag."

  • "The tasting menu for Torrisi Italian Specialties was absolutely wonderful! Even though the dining space is quite small, we never felt confined or rushed during the meal. The staff did a superb job of keeping everything in order and making us feel like we were dining in the chef's personal kitchen. Overall, it was a really special experience, and worth every penny! Thank you Terrisi's, from the folks from Texas."

  • "My wife and I wanted a nice lunch (not brunch) downtown. Few places are non-brunch on Saturday, especially July 5th. That's how we ended up here. Very small, intimate restaurant with 8 or 9 tables. Friendly and relaxed, very good, knowldgeable service; precise, beautiful food with a broad spectrum of taste. It is a fixed menu, but the skill of the kitchen was displayed by the substitutes to replace the food my wife is very allergic to. It was a 7 course tasting menu with the only choice being a meat or fish course as the main dish. It was all exquisite. Not inexpensive, but worth every penny."

  • "This was one of the most memorable meals I've ever had. The service was great and very attentive and the food preparation was superb. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a date night/romantic night out where you want to be wow-ed!"

  • "Wow!!! Every mouthful of food was a complex explosion of complex, textured tastes. The service was excellent, too. It was just a phenomenal dining experience!"

  • "We had lunch on a quiet Friday with only 1 other couple in the room. The service was warm and approachable. Our server was also well-informed about the ingredients. We enjoyed the food but found some of the courses a touch salty. The ingredients were fresh and in season. Each course complemented the next. It was a great experience. The dessert was a nice palette cleanser and finish to the meal. I wish there was better ventilation in the room--we smelled like the restaurant when we left. We would still go back because it was a special experience. If only it was easier to get a reservation!"

  • "Wow wow wow. The service is wonderful, the wines are amazing, and the food is unparalleled. You can see that the chef is incredibly creative, and, I assume, is also having a lot of fun with his dishes. Dining at Torrisi's is an incredible experience."

  • "Torrissi is a clever business model. The food is creative and much of it is delicious (e.g. the gnocchi and the "cheesecake" dessert), but only low cost ingredients are used. For example, the grilled rice balls were delicious, as were the small pieces of duck skin, but the cost of these goods is minimal. If you wanted a tasting of steak as part of the meal, that was $30 extra. The wine list has a few bottles under $100, but very few. At the end of the day the cost of a meal for three is at least $500, including tip and wine. So, if money is not an issue, definitely try Torrissi. If you are a foodie on a budget, it may be worth it, but the price will keep you from coming back."

  • "is a lovely place, little and quiet and yet great in every detail"

  • "Too expensive for what it is, they take advantage of the michelin star to charge you over the clouds for an average NY dinner. Probabbly the most outstanding bite that I had was a morel with foie gras.. of course that caused another $50 on our tab."

  • "Food is hit-or-miss, service is spotty, and the wine list is outrageously expensive. Least expensive bottle is a mediocre white for $65, for a wine that retails at $15. The other 98% of wines on the list are in the hundreds, which is just bananas. For just a little bit more money, we could have gone to Le Bernadin for a far superior experience. For a hell of a lot less, we could have gone to Porsena and had a far superior experience! We will definitely select these other restaurants next time. Don't get the hype of this place."

  • "If you are looking for standard Italian fare this is not your place. Torrisi serves the most inventive Italian food in NYC in a small, quaint Little Italy storefront. Interesting wine list, attentive service but a tough reservation. Run to savor this gem before it closes for renovations. "

  • "Amazing, transcendent meal as always. Great service too. Only negative is it's quiet and tables are close so everyone is listening in on each others' conversations. But the food is too good to care about that. However, only complaint is it's unnecessary, after you've required a deposit to hold a reservation (even without which I wouldn't break it), to leave a message letting me know I have to call you back and "reconfirm" (WTH?) the reservation within 24 hours to avoid you "releasing it to someone else." Then I got put on hold 5+ minutes when I called. I should not have to waste my time with this when I already made the reservation. You should honor your reservations—not threaten to give them away or waste my time please!"

  • "The space is small w/tables very close to one another. Service was rushed as they only serve a 9 course dinner, I had to tell the server to slow down as I had 2 courses in front of me and I felt that I couldn't enjoy the food. The food choices were diverse and well prepared. Presentation of food was clever and decorative. "

  • "After an anniversary celebration, we went back for a birthday celebration. Just as good as our first visit. Outstanding food and presentation."

  • "We went to Torrisi with high hopes despite not being fans of tasting menus. The food was beautifully prepared and presented but a far cry from what we normally expect from a memorable Italian meal. Although a few of the 8 courses did re-visit Italian classics, others were downright baffling to someone used to eating well in Italy and used to simple recipes, using a few high quality ingredients. The staff was friendly and helpful which was greatly appreciated. All in all not a great experience for us, but perhaps we're just not trendy enough! A word of caution: when you make a reservation you give your credit card number which will be charged 100$ per person if you cancel a confirmed reservation within 48 hours of scheduled arrival. "

  • "Torn on how to rate this. The food was overall outstanding. One dish I didn't like (mackerel) but the fresh pea and yogurt soup was delicious, the trout was a standout, as was the gnocchi (although by that point I was incredibly full). The bill for 2 with tip, 2 glasses of champagne & the 3rd cheapest bottle of wine was $450, so definitely pricey. It took a little bit for the courses to start rolling out, but once they did they arrived steadily. We had just finished our dessert and paid our bill when the hostess informed us that we had to vacate the table for people waiting. After spending that sum of money at a restaurant we were offended at being kicked out. We were by no means lingering - it's their reservation mgmt problem."

  • "A wonderful restaurant with a great menu. $100.00 prix fixe is not for every day. But perfect for those special occasions. "

  • "We came to Torrisi on 5/3 for my boyfriend's birthday and had a wonderful experience. I am gluten free and we asked to both eat a gluten free menu. All the gluten free substitutions were delicious and we didn't feel as though we were missing out at all. Our favorite dishes were the pastas, arborio involtini, and mixed grill cacciatore. "

  • "Food was very carefully prepared and plated with extra chef's specials brought out. The first half was a lot of seafood courses (including octopus, tuna tartare), the second half, meats and pastas (squid ink, gnocchi, veal, lamb). No spirits available for drinks. I don't like lamb and had the waygu beef for a $30 up charge. Tuna and veal dish--meat was softly puréed like baby food, not consistency of ground beef that I'm used to. After the seafood courses, we had a series of meat and pastas that were too rich, served in succession. My waygu beef course could have been a separately priced entree- it arrived with a bowl of rich, but deliciously sweet polenta and a salad. Several of the dishes were too salty. Our stomachs felt like lead after."
