  • "Menu is very extensive almost too many options it makes it hard to decide. If you go with a group of 4 could be great to try more items. Corn and octopus are must have. Options for everyone if you go out with people who are less adventurous with their taste palette too. Wish music was slightly lower though so it would have been easier to hear across the table. Otherwise great place and great food! Can't wait to go back. "

  • "We had dinner at Toro on a Monday evening, so there weren't too many guests in the restaurant at the time. Great food and cool atmosphere, but unfortunately the service was not up to standards. We had to wait a long time to get the drinks we ordered, we had to wait a long time between the courses (we had tapas), one of our courses was forgotten and we never received it, and when we passed on dessert the waiter slammed the bill on our table even though we didn't ask for it. We were thinking of having coffee and another glass of wine, but didn't feel welcome any longer. This was the last seating, and we were not the last customers, so they had no reason to rush us out. All in all, the dinner was great, but the service ruined the experience."

  • "deviled eggs, pulpo and razor clams were delicious. schnitzel and lobster was ok. morcilla, bone marrow and paella: overly salted. hard to eat without bread which we asked explicitly, and multiple times (portion were very stingy). there was some ingredient in the paella/morcilla that gave me a mild msg allergic reaction. not as bad as cheap chinese takeout but it was still enough to stop eating after just two bites. bus people was very attentive but waiter showed up between order and check. recommended 3-4 plates per person with small paella. thankfully we stopped at 2 per person. it was more than enough. music too loud. had to yell throughout the meal. so unpleasant we left without dessert. will not return because of this."

  • "As a group of three we decided to give the new "hotspot" Toro a try on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant is an immense open space. The level of sound is well beyond "energetic", in fact, the only way to communicate with someone next to you is to shout - which is what everyone in the restaurant was doing. Not a place to hold any sort of conversation, business, intimate, or otherwise. The food varied between brilliant and very ordinary. We had 4 of the tapas and shared a large lamb paella. Two of the tapas were excellent - the carrots with dill and harissa and the salt cod fritters. The other two were ordinary. The paella was very ordinary - excessively salty and virtually free of lamb - not worth the hefty price for flavored rice."

  • "The food was really good especially the pan con tomate and the goat cheese. The only thing I did not love from what we ordered was the ham croquettes. We had to wait a little to get our tables but in the mean time they checked our coats and bags and gave us the option of waiting at the bar. The service was very good. I am definitely going back to eat more pan con tomate and try the paella."

  • "The food was amazing and the service was adequate. We went for a friend's bday and because there is limited "main" dining area seating, we were sat close to the entrance. It happened to be a frigid evening and despite the heavy curtains over the entrance, we were absolutely freezing. Our party decreased and we asked to move away from the entrance, yet were blocked from moving to what seemed to be an open area at the bar... it was reserved? I complained to the manager, yet there was no remedy... not even a complimentary something... Dinner was $200... and FREEZING!"

  • "We went to celebrate my best friend's birthday and totally enjoyed. Tapas were great - shrimp and garlic, eggplant, yellowtail tuna. Only disappointing tapa was the croquette. Very thin, not really stuffed :(. Definitely appreciated that they remembered my request and came out with a candle on the dessert! Front desk greeters were awesome. Would go back."

  • "Tried quite a few items on the menu with a work group, and for the price I was not that impressed. We must have had 5 different servers over the course of the meal and we weren't sure who was getting the tip in the end. By the time we left, it was so loud we were happy to leave."

  • "Food was excellent. all the dishes seemingly had the perfect combination of subtle, delicate flavors on a base of bold, bright notes. The paella had the perfect consistency, with each kernel being discernible while not prominently individual. soccarrat was excellent as it almost always is anywhere. Carabineros were fantastic, and judging by the wonderful tasting head tamale, very fresh. the grilled corn was a bite of summer in every mouthful and the dates were a favorite among my companions (all females, i am a male)"

  • "I was excited to come here seeing as it was so hard to get a reservation and the reviews I had read had been very good. So my friend and I came on Monday evening and the place was mostly busy with a lovely vibrant buzz. Huge but didnt feel overwhelming. The food was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. I especially liked the filet beef (so tender and delicious!) and the carrots were very good too. We had an amazing wine from the extensive wine list and the service was impeccable. All in all a wonderful experience and will definitely be going back."

  • "I loved the industrial but warm feel, the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was a little underwhelming. The octopus was cooked to perfection but covered in overpowering sweet onion chutney. The toro appetizer tasted like cold fish that would be served at a bar mitzvah. The pork schnitzel was great although not an exciting dish, and the mushroom dish was delicious. Overall I'd go back for a fun experience and maybe try the paella, but my expectations wouldn't be for the best meal but for a good meal and a fun time."

  • "Jamie and his crew are on point. It's refreshing to see the chef in house in a New York City restaurant cooking and plating food. Service was great from the get go. The food was beautifully prepared and the value, which is rare in nyc, was great. For once I didn't feel like I was paying for someone's high rent. Flavours were as much familiar as they were unique. Highly recommend Toro if you are into sharing delicious little tapas plates."

  • "We went for dinner on Friday evening with another couple and had a delicious meal, but the noise level was deafening. In addition to the place being packed, there was loud music in the background so it was difficult to have a conversation. Toro specializes in small plates, and the taste combinations were exquisite. Be warned, however, that the portions are small, so you end up ordering a lot of plates and the bill adds up. Dinner for 4 with a couple of rounds of drinks came to over $400, and we had no leftovers! Another time I would go for drinks and apps, then go somewhere else for dinner."

  • "At first I thought they were trying to rush our meal and get us out so they could turn our table, as they were throwing the food at us. There was always 3-4 items on our table at all times, and for two people that was way too much. It was one of the more bizarre things I have experienced in a restaurant. The cocktails - Both very syrupy and too sweet. Food (the good) - Tortilla Espanola, Ensalada Cortada, White Ham Special Everything else we ordered was just not very good and weird combinations of flavors that did not work well together. Not worth the trip."

  • "I have been to Toro Boston numerous times and it quickly became one of our favorite Boston restaurants. As a native New Yorker I am in the city often and couldn't wait to go to Toro NY. My husband and I finally went and were not disappointed. We sat at the bar at the kitchen and were delighted to watch James Beard Award winner and Iron Chef winner - Chef Ken Oringer at his craft. The food was outstanding. The dishes are beautiful to look at and delicious to eat. What a great addition to the NY restaurant scene. We can't wait to come back!"

  • "THere arae so many restaurants in this city that simply do not deserve the hype they get. Toro is an exception! Everything; food, service an ambience are exceptional . The pulpo is the most tender you'll find anywhere. The Gambas are unique and do not taste like the same garlic laden shrimp you get at any other restaurant. the list goes on and on.The servers are professional, not intrusive and don't rush you. The wine list has wines in all price ranges and Caitlin, the Sommelier, is very engaging. I will definitely be back to TORO!"

  • "Wonderful spin on tapas, paellas were terrific, service very good. A lesson in correct wine pouring is highly suggested. Cacophonous space in dire need of sound reduction materials and dialing down the sound track. "Conversations" are conducted at almost a scream. Young folks will love it!"

  • "Toro was energetic which was great. ordered a bottle of wine and 11 tapas. Some lacked serious seasoning! the chicken livers & sage leaves were amazing & bone marrow w/ braised beef cheek toast & pork terrine. that's 3 out of 11 worth even mentioning. sweetbreads, we both typically love, were inedible. I don't know who thought it was a good idea to put on the menu. Tripe w/ blood sausage, not good. The server came over once to offer bread and never again. We barely touched some items & no one bothered to ask how they were, just came and cleared it away without a thought. And mind you we are both in the industry. I would suggest someone to give it a try but I will not return. Great for a drink & the chicken livers in sage leaves!"

  • "TORO is amazing. All the waiters are very friendly. I suggest sitting in the back at the kitchen so you can watch them cook. All dishes are made to order. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We tried different things this time than we had the last time we went and everything was delish! I first went to Toro in Boston and since have been back several times. I was so excited for the New York location to open! My favorite dishes from last night was the razor clams and shrimp!!"

  • "Before getting into the food, just wanted to comment on the excellent staff. The wait staff did a great job of managing the flow of food to the table, making sure we had everything we wanted but offering great suggestions to order. Our server Trish was great and recommending food and beer choices that were spot on. The support staff around her was great as well. On to the food: The bone marrow dish was killer. Great flavors all around. The pork belly and spare rib dish were great as well. So was the fois gras."

  • "With so many rent-challenged, Manhattan restaurants slinging average, uninspired food, Toro definitely breaks the pattern. Whether you're up for more accessible, familiar tapas favorites like octopus, pork belly and jamon Iberico, or you're looking for more interesting selections like pig ear terrine, sea cucumbers, and caviar with sea urchin, Toro is really hard to beat. The restaurant itself is a dramatically lit open space that actually feels very intimate even when full. The bar, while quite large, is similarly cozy. Given a choice between a table and sitting at the elevated La Plancha (which allows you to watch the chefs in action), I would choose the La Plancha where you can take in the entire restaurant."
