  • "We had the $28 lunch buffet and it was truly mediocre. Basically just a bunch of uninspired salads you could get anywhere, with the addition of some hunks of grilled meat. There wasn't even very much of that, so you were paying a lot of money for nothing. The shrimp tasted old, the salad was uninspired, and the desert (chocolate cake in a mason jar) really terrible. Looks cute, but tastes like dirt. We both left it unfinished. I found the decor just weird, with the prison bars separating the stairwell and grill area, and the hostesses wearing sleazy-looking, tight, floor-length dresses. This is DC at lunchtime. What the heck? As a woman, I was just offended. Here's a tip - go elsewhere if you want the latin steakhouse experience."

  • "The manager Matt is excellent! He took care of my family and I on our trip to DC. Our server Arturo was incredibly accommodating. Their chef is creative, innovative and imaginative. We came for brunch and it was probably one of the best experiences we have ever had. We will definitely be back. Thank you Matt, Arturo and Chef Milanes for such a great time!!"

  • "the mimosas, the bloody mary bar, the hot and cold buffet are exceptional value for money. service is super friendly and surprisingly non-pushy (unless it comes to mimosa-refills). the homemade bread could be better (or i just happened to get a stale piece). try to get the waffles when they are refilled. the older and cold ones dont' do them justice."

  • "Came to Toro Toro for brunch on a Saturday with a group of 5. Website states doors open at 1130am however actual doors opened earlier. May want to get that fixed so you can get the early birds in. The brunch was buffet style which I am usually hesitant about due to food becoming stale and no replenishment if certain dishes become empty. This was not the case here. The food was consistently well maintained. The only down side was our waiter wasn't too consistent with refilling our empty water glasses. The place was about 50% filled so it wasn't a matter of being overwhelmed with other tables. We definitely had to flag other waiters and even had to walk up to one of the guys at the hot food station to get some water poured at our table."

  • "Went very late on a Friday night since it was one of the few places near me with a kitchen open later in the evening and had out of town guests arriving from the airport late at night. The food was great. Had the smoked guacamole with plantain chips (excellent); Causa Toro Toro (raw tuna tartare on mashed potato rounds - which was excellent); mushroom and goat cheese flatbread which was very good); crispy shrimp (great - I would ask for large order of this and be very happy!) and the seafood arepas (topping good, but crust/bread not so great). Even though we were here very late at night after 10 p.m., the food was great as was the service."

  • "Having read about the dessert "la bomba," we've been wanting to try Toro Toro for months. The dessert is hands down the best dessert experience in DC! It has the element of surprise, theater, and yes, of course, chocolate. Adding to the experience, was the wonderful service. Toro Tora has the friendliest, most accommodating staff we have encountered in DC!!! We had a slight problem (outdoor dining and birds overhead, you can guess what happened next), and the manager and staff went out of their way to help us fix the situation. The brunch was great, drinks delicious, decor is chic, but the service surpasses it all. Go and enjoy...and definitely save room for la bomba!"

An added bonus was the amazing service. Every snicker member of the staff was more than helpful and attentive. No way could you be disappointed with your choice to go here."

  • "There was no excuse yesterday for your waitress to ignore our table. You weren't slammed and we weren't demanding. A lunch that should've taken an hour took more than two. Three times I had to remind her to bring things - our salad, our coffee, our cream. By the time the cream arrived the coffee was cold. I wasn't about to ask for a hot cup -- I didn't have half an hour to wait. Twice we had to get someone to track her down. I generally like your food and your bar, but it will be a very long time before I bring another client to lunch there again. The server's name was Marissa T and she embarrassed me in front of a client. For the prices you charge, I can go to BLT, get an equally nice meal and be treated with respect."

  • "I am a huge Richard Sandoval fan. My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary. The ambience is very fine dining meets the wild. We chose the Rodizio Experience, which is all you can eat. Our waiter Jesus surprised us with a variety of cold and hot plates. My favorite were the scallops, then all of a sudden the meats were coming around non stop. The quality and taste of the meat was better than at Chima or Fogo de Chao. The dessert we got was the La bomba. AMAZING! they bring it out in a chocolate bowl and lay down a clear plastic and they drop it on the table. We also got complimentary champagne thanks to the manager. This is definitely not a every night dinner type of place but would recommend it for a special occasion."

  • "My kids & I took my husband to Toro Toro for brunch, & this restaurant lived up to some of the reviews we had read. Wow! The quality of the food was excellent, the ingredients used were fresh, the seasoning was superb & this combo made for delicious food. The food display was really beautiful & the wait staff kept replenishing the food. The desserts were eclectic & we loved this. I have it a 4 star for service because it took a while before our waiter came to our table, but it was a Sunday & Father's Day so the restaurant was quite busy. The group sitting at the table behind us we extremely loud & this made it a little hard to hear each other at times. Not withstanding, the overall experience was great & this is one of the gems of DC."

  • "I have eaten brunch many times at two other Richard Sandoval restaurants- Zengo and Masa14. Both have been superb and I was excited to try Toro Toro for that reason. We were able to get a 1:30 reservation on a Sunday. It wasnt packed when we got there, but boy was it loud- I could barely hear anyone at my table. The food is buffet style unlike Zengo and Masa (which is tapa style), and although there were lots of options and it held promise, everything looked like it had been out for hours and was picked over. It wasnt awful, but for $39 a person, you expect better. Our server was awesome, but the food was just meh for the price point. I think we will stick with one of Sandoval's other properties moving forward."

  • "I made a reservation for 2 at 5:30 pm I specifically requested a nice comfortable table with a nice view to the dining room, instead they sat us in a two seat table in a dark room where I had to face the wall' the dining room was totally empty, the hostess could give us a nice table by the window. I guess they sat us on that table because I know the waiter who had that station, but I didn't request a specific waiter, I requested a specific seating. Even I know the waiter, he is a nice person, but unfortunately when it comes to ask questions about the menu the guy was clueless. The pork chop was very dried and flavorless, the veal t-bone it was more bone than meat.Music was too loud, we felt like coming in to a night club at 11 pm."

  • "Went after reading great reviews of the restaurant. Ordered some drinks which took a long time to arrive. Pisco Sour was not good. Food was good, ordered the meta platter (sharing), very good but only two lamb chops (small) and three tiny pieces of the ribeye, everything else was chicken which was very good. Side dishes came cold. Dessert was a gem. "

  • "This was my first visit to Toro Toro, and I went with some friends for Saturday Brunch. I'm not sure if it was a trial run, but the set up was confusing and we kept having to flag down our waiter to bring us drinks, or give us clean plates, or refill water glasses. The experience left something to be desired. The best part of the meal were the croissants (do not miss) and the chocolate waffles. "

  • "I went here with 3 friends for dinner, including drinks at the bar. The food was outstanding, including the scallops, the empanadas, the short rib flatbread, and the grilled octopus. The (gluten free) bread amuse-bouche was tasty and spot on. The Toro wine we ordered was excellent. The desserts were tasty but not at the caliber of the dinner. The guacamole seemed prepared and pedestrian. Skip it. The ceviche was confusing and watery, though perfectly fine. The service was spotty. I assume they're working out kinks. But some orders didn't get placed or arrive together. As with almost all tapas places in DC, the dishes are overpriced. But they were also delicious. I'd definitely go back, but for a special occasion or to eat at the bar. "

  • "We opted for the Rodizio experience with is unlimited small plates and table-side carved meats. The octopus was incredible - the best I've had. The smoked guac, lobster bisque, and duck carnitas were also wonderful. Skip the seafood arepas; they were weak. For the meats, the chicken was moist and tender, the grilled pineapple was sweet and smoky, and the ribeye and lamb chops stood out . The cocktails were good, and the wine list was also stellar, but with a pretty heavy mark-up. The service started out strong, but fell off quite a bit as the restaurant got busier. Our waitress disappeared for over 30 minutes at one point, so we finally had to waive down a manager to order additional small plates. "

  • "Interesting and mostly delicious pan-latin selection; we focused on tapas. Best beef empanada I've ever tasted, hands down, rich, great crust; vegetarian nice too. Smoked guacamole is a nice if subtle touch; rich smoked swordfish another good app. Seafood arepas wonderfully rich and smooth but couldn't taste the silky and seemingly fresh seafood (the sauce overwhelmed), and the plaintain it sits on is too thick and hard to eat. Drinks are among the most interesting anywhere -- I'd do a passionfruit pisco sour to start AND for dessert. But the extraordinarily delicious Tinta Roja (their version of sangria) was absolutely skimpy; underfilled and most of the volume is taken up by ice. C'mon guys, we'll go back but loosen up the pour!"
