Diner Reviews
  • "All you can drink bloody mary or mimosa brunch for under $40 with an entree. I think I drank 10 drinks in 2 hours. Food is classic brunch food not bad. Dinner portions are small. Go for the all you can drink brunch. Also open 24 hours. Rare find that one."

  • "My wife and I went to Paris for the first time last year and coming to this restaurant in NY brought back all the details of that trip for us. The food was terrific...I had mussels in white wine sauce and my wife had the duck. The cheese platter was probably her favorite and our server was able to tell us what specific kind of cheese each one was in case we wanted to ask for it elsewhere. She was very friendly and knowledgable. The bill was really reasonable for a NY restaurant. We'll definitely be going back next time we are in the city."

  • "Food was pretty good, not a bad place. However if you go with a groupon, know that they give you smaller portions (they actually give you less meat and potatoes as the non groupon people next to you)"

  • "Need to change the menu. Service is very dislocated."

  • "Greatlocation, with large outdoor dining area and cozy inside space. Food was great. Service was friendly but sluggish."

  • "We have dined at Maison many times before...this occasion, the bread basket was stale, so much so that my wife cut her finger on one of the slices and required a bandage...we informed the server and asked for another bread basket and to our chagrin discovered that the bread was still hard and past its prime. Good bread is basic...so disappointing for a French bistro."

  • "Was a wonderful find in an overpriced market. The food and service were great and we returned several times on our trip including for brunch and late dessert. I highly recommend a stop there!"

  • "We found Brasserie Maison to be very much like what you would find in Paris as a tourist, except that the wait staff are friendly and speak English quite well. We both gravitated to the crisp duck confit crepes, which were excellent. Service was fast, so it was a good pre-Carnegie Hall concert choice."

  • "This was a fantastic find, so close to the Theatre District. The Mussels and Frites were everything that I expected and the wines exellant. The outside dining is a great area and this is obviously a favourite neighborhood restaurant."

  • "Went after a show in december around closing. Service and food were both acceptable. Previously went in August and had a much better dining experience."

  • "The bar menu is lacking for brunch. They need to have a fuller martini list."

  • "Air conditioning was unfortunately out of commission, and I'm fairly certain we had the worst table. We were almost on top of the people next to us in the smallest cramped corner of the restaurant, however, that being said: Maison had great food. No one was unhappy with their meal and the waitstaff was very helpful and attentive even considering just how packed the place was. Great food - but I wouldn't recommend it if you're there to have good conversation as you'll either not be able to hear it or you'll be telling everyone around you as well."

  • "Nice dining experience here. I went with a friend before seeing a play, and the food was delicious. We sat outside, there is alot of cars that drive by this very busy street, so if that's not an issue for you, then dine outside. The inside is nice as well. Not very big and not pretensious."

  • "We had dinner here after a show for our first anniversary. The food and the service made our already amazing night PERFECT!"

  • "cute if somewhat formulaic layout. service was prompt. they refilled the bread basket withut being told,(a big plus for us carb lovers) seafood was good, lamb shank was overdone and too thickly coated with almost paste like seasoning. maison burger was a surprise, thick not too well done and a nice herb undertone."

  • "Loved the diner. The food was terrific for the price. The location is great for theater-goers. Our waitress was very good, but the bus boy cleared plates from the table before everyone was done. I hate that; it gave the impression that they were rushing us out of the restaurant. In fact he tried to clear a dinner plate from a friend who was very obviously still eating. But all-in-all it was a great meal at a great restaurant at a great price."

  • "Disinterested, somewhat slow service, especially for late night (10:00 PM) when the restaurant was almost empty. At one point, when I was not receiving the bill after I had asked for it, I was told my server had left the premises "but will back back shortly". No one else offered to present my bill. When the server returned, there was no apology for the delay. I found the food to be uninspired, but that may have also been a function of the relative emptiness of the restaurant. It just did not seem very professional to me and I probably will not return to Maison, nor recommend it."

  • "Maison has a nice French bistro vibe (a la Cafe Lipp), as well as 24 hour service, but sadly also has appalling bad food (could not eat my salad or fish, and was really hungry plus not that picky). Keep it on your list of late night places for a drink in midtown or post theater but head to Cafe Lux or Odeon for the meal."

  • "Food was good. Service was good. Sat outdoors next to the sidewalk where we could people watch. The only negative was one snotty 20 something hostess that insisted my reservation was for 15 minutes later, even though I had a printed confirmation in hand. She also yelled at waiter in direct presence of patrons. Another hostess was at the podium when I left that was very nice. My guess is that the first one won't be around too long. :)"

  • "The food was good. The seating outside was extremely cramped...waitors/servers squeezed in between tables. We sat inside at the bar when we first got there and it was super hot in there. We discussed it with the bartender and he agreed, but nothing was done. This is why we chose to sit outside."

  • "I love this place because it's a standout in the biz and theater district. It's great for a late night beverage or snack especially if you are looking to get out of the way of the sales guys after work and the after the show crew from Broadway. However service can be sketchy. I recently met a friend for an early breakfast during the week. The waiter was obnoxious and reluctant to move us from a four top to a two top even though there was more than 3/4 of the restaurant was empty"

  • "Two of us had lunch here on a beautiful early autumn afternoon. Of course we chose to eat outside and were seated under the huge umbrella that covers the entire corner. The food was acceptable quality French bistro fare - the escargots were good, the croque monsieur and beignets OK but nothing to write home about. The noise level was not obtrusive, surprising for the corner of 53rd Street and Seventh Avenue. The service was a problem. The waitress was relatively attentive but the woman in charge of seating us was off hand and rude. She was on the phone and couldn't be bothered to attend to us until she was good and ready. Bad first impression for our first visit to this establishment."

  • "Food slipping, just so-so though the scene remains nice. As with most places, seating for 2 is a problem., Tables too small and poorly placed. Even when restaurant is not busy--which is rare--they will not provide larger table."

  • "Best to eat indoors as the NYC birds are quite aggressive."

  • "Great 24/7 French cafe near Times Square and the Broadway Theaters. Great mussels, clams and salmon dishes."
    Dined on 8/10/2008
  • "The food was pretty good but it was a fairly small amount on both our plates. We were sat in an outside "carousel" type patio even though it was kind of cold and raining. The view was pretty amazing but its hard not to be in New York. The service was the worst part. We had to ask multiple times for multiple things and most of the time we only got what we needed when we asked someone other than our server. My glass of wine was good but the list was lacking. Overall I would not recommend someone going there. There are too many other restaurants in Times Square that will serve better food for the money and have better service."

  • "All four of us in our party we pleased with our meal and the service. The bread was outstanding. We ate outside on a pleasant summer evening. Ned, our waiter was personal and went the extra mile. The prices were reasonable."

  • "Disappointing service always keeps this off the top of my list, but on a warm night, the outdoor tables can't be beat, and it's very convenient to movies and theater."

  • "It was absolutely delicious! The food was soooo good! The ambiance was great, and we just enjoyed it tremedously! I'm telling everyone how great it was. We will definately go back when we're in the city. My only disappointment was when I made reservations, I mentioned it was my daughters 16th birthday. I thought they would sing, or something."
    Dined on 7/16/2008
  • "Disappointing service. Waiters seemed almost reluctant to serve. THey need to learn to be more pleasant and most seemed as if they were having bad days at work or they were grousing about the management/customers (they were huddling together and appeared to be jointly complaining). But whatever their problems, they certainly shouldn't take it out against their customers."

  • "The air conditioning was broken on a very hot day so we were offered outside dining. The server tried to make it as pleasant as possible. I would like to go back under better conditions so that I could enjoy the meal more."
