Diner Reviews
  • "The food tasting experience is amazing, but after, you will want to go somewhere for dinner. The service is to perfection, but works really hard to rush you out the door. The food and beverage pairing is amazing and worth the try. Overall a marvelous experience, except for feeling really rushed and somewhat still hungry when all was said and done."

  • "Everything about Torino was amazing. We chose the wine pairing with the food and the whole experience was awesome. They also easily accommodated our gluten free request. Great restaurant!"

  • "We had been wanting to eat at Torino for a long time. As it happened the nine course meal began the month of June. We went on a Friday evening at 6 pm. We let them know ahead of time about some food allergies and none appeared on the menu. We opted for the wine tasting and experienced almost all new wines to us. Food was sometimes playful looking and other times very elegant and/or pretty. We enjoyed all but one dish as neither of us like venison or mushrooms. They both happened to be in the same course. Would go back."

  • "What dining out should be. Each dish has its own flavor, texture, and character without being overly complicated. Tasted items I would not normally order and now would if they appeared on a menu. Tasting menu offers the best of ingredients and chef's skill. And a very attentive staff. The evening, pleasurable."

  • "Outstanding pairing of wines with each course - small plates give you a wonderful taste experience without overloading you - wish the restaurant was in a more scenic setting "

  • "I took my husband to Torino for his birthday. We loved it! Service was out of this world, with two personal waiters just for us - one for food, one for wine. Their pairings are fantastic, (but beware of smaller portions and wine.... got the best of us by the end of the night!) We can't wait to go back!!"

  • "You shouldn't expect to feel stuffed when dining at Torino. You go to Torino to taste bursts of interesting fresh flavor combinations in your mouth. You're not chowing down, you're tasting. It's a treat for your taste buds! We left Torino and headed straight away to "como's" for pizza. Our 18 yr old son(hallow leg)was still very hungry, however, he wanted to know when we could go back to Torino! Both kids LOVED it. New family favorite restaurant."

  • "This restaurant tries to recreate a closed menu experience typically founded in Top Restaurants recommended by "Guide Michelin", but there are some improvements that need to be done. I had the opportunity of experimenting some of this closed 5 courses menus experiences in several recommended "Guide Michelin" restaurants, but probably this was the smallest portion that I have experiment, and some of the courses where to Basic for a closed menu chef experience, but for the price we payed wasn't so bad. The Menu changes every week, so I recommend to give a try along with the wine suggestion and enjoy the experience. "

  • "I cannot say enough good things about Torino. Each course is a work of art. Your tongue is alive with the flavors. The imagination that goes into the selection and presentation of each dish amazes me. I would love to be in one of their menu planning meetings for the week to come. It would be so interesting to hear how they come up with their creations. If you are a foodie at all, you will love this place!"

  • "Trorino is an amazing restaurant - one of the best gastronomic experiences in the state. It's unique take on food will leave you dazed. As with most tasting menus, the portions are small and leave you wanting more. "

  • "The whole dining experience was perfect - food was original, delicious, plentiful and fun. The waitstaff were energetic and knowledgable. The actual dining area was intimate and warm. Definitely a place that we will return to"

  • "Torino won restaurant of the year for reason. Their food is creative, delicious and carefully presented. Definitely worth a trip to Ferndale. "

  • "Going here, you are not merely feeding your belly; You are feeding your soul. Perhaps that was a bit hyperbolic, but this is not just like eating at any ordinary restaurant, be it a five-star establishment. Think of it more and as such as to be entertainment for your senses of smell and taste. Each course is proportionally built up with the next, and given ample time to appreciate. With the menu changing weekly, it is not of much use to elaborate on the particular food itself, but to give complete trust to the chef and his creations. Wine pairings, especially for the final courses, send things over the top, and for a pair of intimate diners, I would recommend at least one be ordered. -Dr. Hannibal Lecter P.S.Cocktails were also exceptional."

  • "We were excited to go to toreno we had a good experience before left a little hungry that time but enjoyed the creative food. shockingly the portions were even smaller this time. We are all thin people who eat out often and have never been served so little food. It is arrogant of the chef to think this is acceptable or sustainable. We ordered 2 pizzas while still at the dinner table to meet us at home because we were starving. That's just wrong after paying 300 for dinner. This place won't be around much longer if they don't change their ways. "

  • "Tasked with impressing my D.C. Foodie parents, I took them to Torino for my birthday to show them Michigan has good food too. Well, needless to say they were very impressed, mentioning that Torino could stand it's ground in any major city. The staff was excellent, the right amount of personable and professional- which is always appricated. Our food, surprising, interesting, and not leaving us overwhelmed. I loved trying new indeed owners such as lichen and flash fries roots, or introducing my family to fiddleheads, which we're the best I have ever had. After I forgot my ID when celebrating my 21st birthday, they offered me a drink on the house when I return- very thoughtful. Highly recommended for a celebration or romantic evening. "

  • "Had my first dining experience at Torino. Loved the food, location, wine etc. I think fixed tasting menu (that varies weekly) is a great concept and the portions were small but perfectly sized that you didn't feel overwhelmed at the end of the meal. My only small issue was we arrived for a 9pm booking (it was the only available time) and it felt like the meal was rushed because we were seating late, when we order a cocktail to start the staff told us the kitchen closed soon and so they would need to bring it and start the food at the same time. So if you want a relaxed meal, take an early time and enjoy the experience, its worth it. "

  • "Terrific flights of food and wine. Very creative, portioned just right so you aren't too full at the end. Every one of the courses and wines got an introduction by one of the wait staff and bartender. Keep in mind that all of the tables have both persons sitting on the same side so might be a little awkward for a business dinner."

  • "More cons than pros here. Sorry. There were some delicious ingredients and beautiful presentations during my seven-course tasting menu experience; but at this point in the course of American gastro-culture, the execution here is too fussy, way too pricey, and too reliant upon a hit-or-miss concept that almost completely missed on every course at the time of our visit. This might have been interesting ten years ago, but the only thing really ground-breaking here is that a place like this is in Ferndale."

  • "This week I spent an enjoyable evening at the Torino Restaurant in Ferndale. The format I have seen in Europe, but never in Detroit each course can with its signature wine. This enhanced the dinner experience greatly by accentuating each course and left me with wonderful memories. I also noted the extreme care and attention to detail displayed by all members of the Torino "crew," so refreshing!"

  • "We went to Torino's for a special occasion, and from start to finish, the dining experience was very special. Imaginative dishes, great wine pairings, friendly staff all work to create a nice atmosphere. Small and intimate, and definitely one to look forward to."

  • "It's always a treat to dine at Torino. The Torino experience is more than just a meal. It's an adventure. For what you get and the feeling you walk away with, the price is a STEAL. Any other city in America, the same meal would be $500+ I can't say enough about this little gem and the all the wonderful people who work there."

  • "Presentation of each tasting was exceptional. Preparation of each tasting was extraordinary. Taste of each tasting was an adventure in combinations of unusual flavors and ingredients. Left you satisfied, like a long trip to an exotic island!"

  • "Very creative ingredients and unusual but delicious pairing of flavors- many layers to each dish. Beautifully presented in a tasteful modern interior. Comparable, if not better, to many restaurants I've tried in NYC, Chicago, etc. This is my go to restaurant when entertaining out of town guests- they are always impressed and delighted with this truly exceptional restaurant."

  • "We have eaten in the best restaurants in New York, Washington, Chicago, London, Paris and many other cities, and I would much rather eat at Torino than at any of them. The food is far more creative and tasty while still respecting the ingredients, and the servers and feel put the others to shame, just the right balance of casual and highly effective. This is our third trip to Torino and the main thing that has changed is the clientele. There is a new game we played this time, "Is that group here only because of the Free Press Restaurant of the Year Award?""

  • "We really enjoyed the creative menu items and the interesting, unexpected mix of flavors. Love the tasting menu format and it's well executed here, but it could use one more course, maybe two- it seemed too short. We ended up having a snack that evening, something we have never done after having tasting menus. So glad to see someone make a bold move like this in metro Detroit!"

  • "Torino has really upped their game. First, their always changing fixed price tasting menu is genuinely inventive. All courses were good, with a couple exceptional (the duck in particular was fantastic). The wine pairings are OK - I'd say more inoffensive than substantial compliments to the food. It also seems like they've really solved their kitchen capacity problem with the entire meal delivered within 90 mins or so (as opposed to the 3-4 hours it had taken before). Service is EXCEPTIONAL. I can't say enough about how their coordination of servers appears to be trying to mirror the sort of service you get in Michelin starred restaurants and, casual look aside, they do it really well."

  • "I cannot think of a meal in any country or city that stands out like the one we had on a Thursday night over 2 and 1/2 hours. The combination of flavors and scents, the wine pairings, the freshness, the attentive and knowledgeable service--all combined to make the single most fantastic dining experience of my life. And frankly, if the service had been bad, if the place was a dump, the quality of the food would have made up for it. Superb. Outstanding. 6 stars!"

  • "I knew before I arrived that this dining experience would be unique and Torino's did not disappoint. Each course was delicious and something I had not had before. The service was excellent. It was a pleasant surprise when we received a fresh table setting for each course. My friend and I thought we would not get enough to eat but we were both satisfied without being overstuffed at the end of the meal. I would recommend Torino's to anyone wanting and unique and classy experience."

  • "It was great! The food was awesome and for a tasting menu with this quality, the price was great. I would pass on the wine pairing next time, but it was worth it to do it once. The service was outstanding, the food was outstanding, it was just a great time. They were super accommodating, not snobs at all. Great opportunity to get dressed up and head out for a unique night"

  • "Everything was fantastic, a memorable food experience for the four of us. My second time there and every bit as great as the first. Nothing like it in Detroit. The chef/ owner knows his way around his food. I've been eating out for fifty years, it's in my top ten."
