Apparently the restaurant has been sold and is closing in a week. They don't serve alcohol, no longer have their piano player. Place was essentially dead. Food & service was ok. Was always a nice spot hopefully they will renovate it and reopen.

I was looking a for a romantic place for me and my girlfriend. What I was looking for was a spacious place with a good music, view, interior and food. I live in East Village and its hard to find something like that over here...most fo the places are tight, noisy and filled with creeps. Menu is not really big, but we did enjoy the great quality, taste and set up was super beautiful, after you are done with main dinner they bring menu with deserts! I surely will be back again, in fact planing it really soon. My girl really loved it too, we have been on many roof-top bars, but this view still gets me:) There are 2 side with different overview (with Brooklyn Bridge and Mid-Town maze (take this one..its awesome). Thank you!

Terrible experience! We got confirmed reservations for dinner, and showed up only to find the restaurant was closed. What kind of management allows this "calibre" of restaurant to send out confirmations without the capability of following through. It's a broken system, which ruined our trip to New York. I would recommend not chancing it with this unstable restaurant. Save yourself the trouble.

This place was nothing like what is advertised on their website. The bar wasn't even open which they boasted in their video tour of the restaurant. The food tasted like diner food at best but was still priced for fine dining. My wife and I had two appetizers, two entrees and two glasses of sodas, no desserts. And our bill came out to almost $140.00. Their choice of entrees are quite limited and they ran out of chicken when we were ordering. What restaurant runs out of chicken, especially when they were just opening for dinner. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with this place considering it was our Valentine's Day celebration. The only good thing about this place was the view but it wasn't spectacular enough to dine here.

I picked Top of the Tower as my Valentine's weekend destination and I was very dissapointed. The food was horrid, I felt like I was eating at an upscale Applebees with the way my steak and salad were prepared. This night was not worth the price of the bill as I was very dissapointed. The saving grace was that my date loved the view of the river. However with no alcohol and food that was not made with care, I would advise everyone to stay away from Top of the Tower.

Booked a long time before, hoping for a special valentines dinner on the day that we arrived in New York. When we arrived we were told that the restaurant had lost it's liquor licence, which was not great but acceptable. When we were seated we were offered a $90 p/p set menu only, which we weren't informed about when we booked. Needless to say we got up and walked out.

The location and view is second to none, but they do not currently have a liquor license. I have no idea why a bar would not have a liquor license, but that sounds fishy to me. I was trying to enjoy a romantic birthday dinner with my girlfriend and our server was largely unhelpful and over attentive, as if he was trying to rush us out of the place. The food was very good but the service and general coldness of the staff does not make this a recommended spot for now.

Overall, I was disappointed in my experience at Top of the Tower. I called earlier in the day to confirm our reservation, and no one returned my call. I again called a few hours before our reservation, and it was confirmed then but was told that they lost their liquor license. Asked if we could bring our own, and was told no. Being that it was my fiance's birthday, we were hoping to have a glass or two of wine. When we arrived, we were sat right away, but noticed how cold it was and then noticed the space heaters placed around. We ended up leaving early as a result of being too cold to stay. The food was great, and saved our experience for sure. I had the steak and my fiance the salmon. Both excellent.

The food was fantastic. I got the salmon, my wife got the shrimp and grits. The server was very attentive, knowledgeable and nice - his name was cristian. My section of the dining area was a chilly - it was being heated by a small space heater - but part of me didn't want to take my coat off. There was also a smudge on the window where we were seated. Not the end of the world, but when you go to a restaurant with a view - you don't want smudges (not on your windows and certainly not in your cup - as was the case with mine) We were able to switch tables and get new cups before the appetizer came because it wasn't too crowded. The flourless chocolate cake was a little too rich for me - too much cream. - my wife loved it.

My wife and I went here on the first night we were in NYC. I ordered the rib-eye and it was very good, the potatoes were fantastic. My wife had a pasta dish that was also delicious. Our waiter was prompt and friendly and while it was a little chilly sitting beside the windows in January, the view of the river certainly made it worthwhile. I would definitely recommend it.

I went here with my girlfriend and the food was just horrible. We ordered Calamari - which was drenched in oil. Then I ordered a Mojito (a drink ON the menu), and I was told that the bar-tender doesn't know how to make a Mojito! Ordered Duck and Cod - both had 10 times the salt and the Duck was really Dry. The server was really nice, but the Manager and the Chef clearly had no clue what's expected of them. Never going back.

It's been over 20 years since I have been to Top of the Tower. I was very excited to go since I really enjoyed everything about the restaurant 20 years ago. However, I was very disappointed. The maitre'd was very standoffish. No welcome "hello", no smile. The service was mediocre. We waited at least 30 minutes for our appetizers and about 40 minutes for our entrees. At least the food was good. What a huge disappointment! Top of the Tower is off my list. What a shame since it was a fabulous place to go for food, drinks, music, scenic view.

We went to this restaurant for New Years eve, and knowing that most restaurants change their menu, we called ahead to make sure that this restaurant would have the same menu. When we arrived however, not only had the menu changed but it called for a $90 per person fixed menu. We spoke to the manager about it and explained that we had called ahead specifically - he automatically got defensive and rude and was also clearly the person who we had been speaking to on the phone (he had a strong accent). We decided to stay and suffer through it but the food was only mediocre - definitely not what ended up being a $230 meal for two.

Don't get me wrong we did enjoy our meal & found the cost reasonable. They also made an effort to spead the seating throughout the restaurant so that the noise was minimal. However there were a number of small things they could improve on (with little cost or effort to them), that would make it a better expereince. They are: 1. Did not provide new silverware after the appetizers were removed. 2. Served the main meal when the appetizers were less than half-eaten. 3. Did not provide steak knives with the steak until asked. 4. Served the espresso in a regular coffee cup (ie inch of coffee in mug). Have no regrets to eating there, but probably will not again. I do wish to return to the bar, as it looked like a nice quiet place to hang-ou

The Top of The Tower was amazing. The food was so fresh and cooked with flavors that I'll never forget, just absolutely great, the drinks were just as great. I brought my girlfriend there for her surprise 30th and she loved it! The waiter kind of left us. We had to call him twice to come back, he didn't announce his name, but of course, I asked. I was a Maitre D for about 3 years. They include an automatic %20 gratuity for party's over 5, so make sure the waiter doesn't get too lazy/careless/comfortable. Other than that, it was great.

The restaurant location cannot be beaten - it has great views of the river on one side, and a view across the skyscrapers from the other. The menu is fairly 'safe' and not very extensive, but there should be something that suits the tastes of everyone. The real downside was the service - they don't seem to have enough wait staff for the covers within the restaurant itself. Service itself varied from perfunctory, to at times seeming a little impersonal and rude. Having dessert menus tossed silently before me let our party to decide to skip that course and head elsewhere. The views are fantastic though - especially at nighttime, and if they get the service right I'd recommend it far higher.

And to top it off, expensive. BUT views are probably some of the best in NYC. Yes - even from only 26 stories up. It's just in the perfect position at the edge of the island to look back on midtown and at river and queens/long island

I had a great time there at a dinner for 2. The view is sure to wow, as you get an unobstructued view of the Roosevelt / Queens skyline as well as a view of the bridge. I am sure it is even more spectacular during summertime outside in the balcony which was for our visit closed. The food is alright, a little sparse in terms of choices but then again the location and view more than makes up for this. Lastly, the service was accommodating and very friendly, and it added a lot of value to my experience. Thanks for a good memory Top of the Tower!

The view compensates for the (lack of) service; it looked as if the owner wanted to save money by overworking the waiter (was there more than one?). During the moments we had his attention, the waiter was good. The pompous host with the expensive tie did not help convey a very welcome feeling. The table request was honoured as requested. The food was good, albeit overpriced. Not very good value, but the view is indeed spectacular.
