  • "The place was clean and was fairly busy for a Tuesday night. I asked for a table with a view via the open table interface and was given a great view for sure. The hostess greeted us but with a lack-luster attitude and didn't look anyone in the eye nor smile. The server was polite but again no smile or energy. The menu was folded up wrapped around the table setting which I found a bit odd for this being at a fairly nice resort. The menu prices where a bit steep but the restaurant claimed to use locally sourced food as much as they can but no sides come with the entrees. The food lacked seasoning. We asked for bread but the server forgot it. We had the brownie for dessert which would have been much better if the brownie was hot."

  • "Comparable to the Compass Grille at the Hyatt in downtown Phoenix--similar food, ambience, etc. However, Top of the Rock had a more quaint, quieter, neighborhoody feel. I don't know if it was because there weren't too many guests sitting inside where we were or not, but the staff seemed to really care, unlike at the Compass where it's either a hit or miss with your waiter (they're either nice, or they seem to think they're too good for you), which sometimes makes the Compass a little haughty. What blew me away was that when my dad mentioned to the hostess that he forgot his reading glasses and couldn't read the menu, she brought out 2 pairs of reading glasses from the back for him! Food was amazing, view was great. It really is a gem."

  • "My wife and I went out for a romantic evening sans kids. I had heard of the Top of the Rock from a family member. But she didn't tell me it was going to be this amazing. We parked below the restaurant in the hotel parking. Giving us a chance to walk up a beautiful walk way adorned with flowers greener and rocks.. The high vaulted ceiling, open dining plan and visible kitchen were just amazing. We were seated by the window over looking phoenix. The menu was short and sweet. We ordered the guacamole appetizer and we weren't let down. My wife ordered the Pork tacos and I had the top sirloin. Both meals were cooked to perfection. If we hadn't have been so stuffed we would've tried the desert menu. Definitely coming again!"

  • "We had a party of 5 and arrived at 6;30 pm. We did not get out of there until 9:30 pm, not something we planned for. Several other parties came, ate and left while we were still there! Dinner was ok, not bad, not spectacular. The waitress was very nice but seemed to have tables spread out all over (not in just one section) and was hard to get a hold of. We waited for everything and they were not that busy, several empty tables. I noticed hamburgers seemed to get out of the kitchen quickly but our parties entrees took forever! The view at night is spectacular! Go, sit outside, have a couple drinks, watch the sun set but eat dinner somewhere else."

  • "Just over 20 years ago my mother-in-law brought us here for our anniversary. The view of the city hasn't changed. Then, the restaurant had white linen tablecloths and a traditional upscale menu and and a wait staff to match. Today, you have to hunt for some one from valet to park your car. Valet has no idea if there is an elevator; the downstairs bar is vacant and no signage. Access is a long walk around the back of the building. We had a 5:30 PM reservation. The hostess was too busy on the phone to even acknowledge us. Our waitress took us to our table; she was excellent the whole time. The tables are uncovered and the paper menu is wrapped around the napkin. Kale is not a caesar salad. We opted for traditional ribeye steak dinner."

  • "This is one of our favorite spots in the Phoenix area. Ask for an outside table. These tables have beautiful views of Phoenix and are usually quiet. My husband had the rib eye which he proclaimed to be one of the best he has had. My chicken was good but the sides were cold. Our server was efficient but not very friendly."

Too much attention to presentation and not enough to the taste is what I think occurred on that special. The pork chop with ruttabegga was great!"

  • "I made a reservation for the 2 of us over 2 weeks ago to ensure a seat by a window for the view. Arrived to get seat about as far from a window that was possible. We had others this week make reservations directly with the restaurant 1 day ahead that got the best view on the window. Hostess appeared to not even have our reservation and when asked if we could sit closer - no was the answer. Food okay. Reviews were better than the meal for sure. Would recommend but not highly."

  • "My husband & I went on Valentine's night.... We had been several years before & it was fabulous. This time however, neither one of us liked the special menu, the service was almost non-existent (plus she added gratuity for a 2- person table...?) the atmosphere was just not as we remembered. For $250 we both left knowing we would never go back. I really feel like the restaurant has lost that "special something". It's a shame."

  • "I was disappointed that our table wasn't by the view and told those were reserved even though the restaurant was mostly empty. This wasn't an option when I booked. The lighting was too bright to get a romantic feel or really see the lights being so far from windows. The service was good and friendly. The food was good but pricey for what you got. The restaurant never got full (nor did the spots by the windows). My husband wanted more people and atmosphere. I wanted a cozy romantic setting with a view. Neither of us got it. At least no one sat at the long high-tops in front of us or we would have had a worse view. We were in and out in an hour."

  • "Upon arrival on Valentine's Day evening we were shocked at the many open tables available. This is usually never the case on a special evening at a great restaurant. Outside seating is spectacular...excellent views, perfect weather, seats although uncomfortable didn't matter. The server who was busy took quite some time to greet us but much much longer to take our order and even longer to bring our bottle of wine. I understood once I saw that gratuity was included why the service was poor. How unfortunate because now we will never return nor recommend this establishment."

  • "Beautiful view, spectacular food and great service. The only negative is that the service was slow, although the staff was moving as quickly and being as attentive as possible. My guess is that the kitchen is slow, however I can see why after seeing how beautiful and delicious the plates were. Just make sure you have at least an hour and a half to spend there."

  • "I reserved the table for 7:30 PM with a special request to be seated by the window overlooking the city (the only real reason to go there). I called at 6:30 to see if we might be able to get in at 7:00. She said that they were full. We arrived at around 7:20 to a nearly empty restaurant. She could not seat us by the window (I guess those were the only full tables). The server was nice, but we sat for a while before he showed up then many times sat with empty drink glasses. The food was pretty good, but not for the price. We think that they were way under-staffed that evening. We won't be going back."

When seated at an interior table we asked for a table near the window to enjoy the view the hostess was abrupt in her response that they were all taken, although they were still empty. The food was ok, fried chicken which was recommended by the waitress was dry. One of our party ordered the rock fish which she enjoyed. The guacamole appetizer was good and fresh."

  • "I have eaten here on several occasions and have seen the quality gone done. No white linen on the tables and the food portions have decreases as well. I use to love the upscale ambience with the elegance of the Top of the Rock. I don’t agree with a rustic attitude for an elegant restaurant, Hence a decrease in the nuance’s that comes with a 4-5 star restaurant. The service was good,food was just okay and for dinner for two, okay is just not good enough for me anymore. I don't mind120.00 for two, but I accept a little more than just met and potatoes. The experience should match your ambience and elegance which Top of the Rock was known for The Paper menus threw me off, I was used to the nice menus, increase the dress code as well."

  • "Sorry this is not a good review. We went for an aniversary dinner. View is great. However my wife order scallops. She took one bite and found an ammonia like smell. Sent them back and the kitchen tried to explain away the smell that it came from the sauce. Not true. We know a little about food. The smell is the smell of old and bad scallops. Perhaps worse was they offered to serve more. Next day she did not feel good and very glad she did not eat more. Sorry to say this place is off our list of restaurants for return. Joshua was a fine waiter but good service cannot make up for bad food. ."

  • "We got there just as it opened and were treated to a bottle of champagne and a table next to a window looking out over the valley. Since it was quite early, our server gave us excellent service. Very friendly, but knew to let us enjoy the moment. The dinner was excellent and we shared a unique dessert. As the sun went down and the lights came up in the city of Phoenix we marveled at the beautiful day and evening we shared on our 7th anniversary."

  • "When someone says Top of anything, I am thinking on top of a skyscraper. Top of the Rock is really on Top of a Rock in the middle of a dessert. At one time it must have been the place to go, now it seems like a shell of a once glorious place to be. The food was interesting. However the place was empty."

Although we understand the food is supposed to be healthier and more unique than some restaurants, we didn't find much to choose from that interested us. My husband found the food bland. I like bland food, so it was okay for me. I would never bring our family there because my children would not enjoy the food and atmosphere doesn't matter for them. The view was spectacular and we enjoyed the food enough to return for a special event."

Goat ??? for one can you imagine unusual foods and seasonings .. .no basic items even hamburger was a mixture of meats not just beef.. steak was not described in cuts or wheater choice.. prime etc. the waiter could not answer our questions someone from the kitchen came out to explain no chicken item on menu... when asked about that.... was offered fried chicken REALLY... was told menu is changed every so often with adifferent theme..well the theme what ever it was...certainly was not for us.. left did not eat dinner ....."

We should have stopped at the fine wine, kale salad and entrees of double bone-in pork chops and sea scallops but continued into a desert, uncommon of me. Of course a walk around the grounds was in order to further take in the beauty of the area at night with a differnt view than our window dinner seating facing north."
