Tony Mandola'sThe kids and I took my wifeThe kids and I took my wife to Tony Mandola's Gulf Coas Kitchen on Waugh for Mother's Day dinner and the food there was outstanding. Of special note, the banana based Key Lime pie there is right up there with is the best that we have ever had (i.e, the award winning Key Lime pie at Key Largo's "Conch House" restaurant in the Florida Keys)!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGood experienceCajun / Italian food, pretty wide selection. Good service. Nice outdoor sitting. Mostly older crowd. No complaints5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday brunchThe three of us thoroughly enjoyed our noon meal at TMs. Entrees (softshell crab and beef ) were delicious and presentented well. Live jazz added a festive atmosphere and not overwhelming. Plan on going back for dinner soon.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMOverservedFood and ambience were excellent. We were served by a tag team of two waiters who frequently stumbled over each other in asking the same questions twice and not knowing what the other had done. It seemed like every time our conversation got really interesting, we were interrupted by Alpohnse or Gaston with a repetitive query or offering. A blemish on an otherwise great experience.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMnoiseA little loud, very open, a lot of hard surfaces, tables very close together.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely Late LunchBrought a friend from Mexico City for a late lunch. The seafood crepes were phenomenal, preceded by superb oysters Rockefeller. Nice soft trio playing good music rounded out a fine lunch.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTony Mandola's can alwaysTony Mandola's can always be counted on to have the outstanding food I crave like the Calamari Super Alamama off menu appetizer. The sauce always makes me dunk some bread to get all that wonderful flavor. The service is always professional yet fun and reliable. The chef prepared our halibut and flounder as we requested and both entrees were excellent. Great place for lunch or dinner with friends and loved ones.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was outstanding. The food was outstanding. We both had a snapper dish (just blackened and snapper decadent) with fresh veggies (green beans and spinach) and mashed sweet potatoes. The food was fresh and tyne snappers well seasoned but not overbearing, and substantial portions. The wine butter sauce on the snapper decadent was light. Tony Mandola stopped by our table 2-3 times and shared a story or 2, which was an added pleasure. Dessert was banana key lime pie, which was delicious, and the bread pudding, a birthday sweet for my fiancée. A 10 in my book.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated my daughter'sWe celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday at Tony"s. The waiter was very accommodating. As regulars on the foodie scene, we decided it was time. The experience was outstanding! My husband had spaghetti di mare and I had the snapper with crab, shrimp, and crawfish. Both were amazing. The service was attentive but not overbearing and iur server, Jaimie, was friendly and fun. The feel of the restaurant was upscale but not stuffy. The NBA playoffs were on the 2 large TV's at the bar and they were easily visible from most tables if you were interested. Overall, it was a great time and we will definitely return!4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had to wait for a whileWe had to wait for a while even with a reservation.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGroup of 6 had a truly memorableGroup of 6 had a truly memorable evening!! Oysters (Damian and Buccaneer) were outstanding! Chilled salads with cold forks is an absolute gem. Entrees were fabulous: both seabass entrees (Bebe and Champagne), Snapper Decadent, Snapper Tomas -- totally awesome! Even the red meat eater (had the rib eye) was bowled over by the quality of the meal. Desserts were over the top! The profiteroles (filled with coffee ice cream) and blueberry cobbler left us licking the plates. Our server, Sevalda, anticipated every need and took amazing care of the table, without being intrusive. Terrific evening....we'll be back!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic to place to dineFantastic to place to dine especially when is a special occasion.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time toThis was our first time to this location since it opened 2-years ago. The food and the service are always consistently good.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFound this gem on open tableFound this gem on open table on a recent visit to Houston. We had a wonderful time...food was excellent....service even better. Loved the calamari and stuffed jalapeños as our starters. The calamari bested Capital Grille's version (my previous favorite). My husband and I both had snapper in different preparations, both cooked perfectly. My children shared a large linguini primavera, which was amazing and loaded with fresh vegetables.
We will be back!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDINNER DATEThe service was amazing. The waiters were very precise in taking my very personalized order. The dessert was delicious. This is great spot for a nice date or every a family dinner. There were couples of all ages there so this is a great spot for a nice dinner date where you would like to enjoy intimate conversation. The quality is always excellent and the service impeccable. This is truly a Houston institution.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent. The best seafoodExcellent. The best seafood we have had so far in Houston.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good food- waiter wasVery good food- waiter was terrible! He didn't come for a long time, brought us wrong bill and then disappeared after that. Would hate for bad service to mar this good restaurant!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGulf Coast Great!Relax and take in the great tastes of Texas' Gulf coast seafood. Of course, the menu is more broad, but each dish reconnects you to the salty smell of waves crashing on a sandy beach, and their Cajun bloody Marys are just hot enough to add the requisite bead of perspiration on your forehead. We don't get to Houston often enough, but we are never really there until we eat at Tony Mandola's.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood was exceptionallySeafood was exceptionally good, but the tables were a little too close together. You can't help but notice other meals.3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMAs usual Tony Mandola's neverAs usual Tony Mandola's never fails to please. Their diverse menu has something for every palate. For those looking for a healthy meal, they are always happy to accommodate special requests, leave sauces on the side, etc. I highly recommend!3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyed a number of itemsEnjoyed a number of items off the new [to us] lunch menu that featured smaller portions. But not to worry, Mama's Shrimp and Crab Spaghetti is still there.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWe celebrated our weddingWe celebrated our wedding anniversay here and were treated to a wonderful meal. We started withthe Seafood a la Mama appetizer which lived up to our expectations. Our entrees were the Lingiuni Tony and Shrimp Larry which were both excellent. We also have to give credit to the bartender for making outstanding martinis. Both the hostess and server greeted us with a "Happy Anniversay" which we enjoyed. The one minor quibble we had was that we weren't comped for the piece of key lime pie (which was quite tasty). Most upscale restaurants where we celebrate our anniversay usually do so. Nevertheless, it was an excellent meal.1/19/2013 12:00:00 AMOn a cold day, a bowl of SopaOn a cold day, a bowl of Sopa Tomas hits the spot. Or there's always Mama's Shrimp and Crab Spaghetti.1/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA great spot to have had ourA great spot to have had our family Christmas Eve lunch--something for everyone from the off-the-menu calamari ala mama to the "TNT" crab & shrimp spaghetti to a solid ribeye for the non-seafood lover in the bunch. And if you've never tried one, get one of the pizzas (gumbo or shrimp are the best) to share or as a large meal for one.12/24/2012 12:00:00 AMGreat Food For SureGreat food. Loved the sea bass. Tried crab balls... Was good but not something I'd order again. Service was great. Environment was a tad loud though. Would visit again.12/14/2012 12:00:00 AM
