Diner Reviews
  • "I don't eat fish often, but I ordered it here! We were using a Living Social voucher for salad, entrée and dessert for two with one glass of house wine apiece. I had the Mixed Greens with grape tomatoes, goat cheese, slivered almonds, apple and a nice champagne vinaigrette. I ordered the New England swordfish, which was excellent, with couscous, snow peas, baby carrots and a really good red curry butter sauce. I enjoyed the house white wine. My husband enjoyed his Caesar Salad and Red Idaho Trout! It was broiled and served with shrimp scampi, potatoes, and arugula and fennel salad. He liked the house red wine. Unfortunately, neither of us can remember what desserts we had! We definitely recommend this place. Try it outdoors!"

  • "We went here in a small group of 4 for lunch. We had reservations for the inside dinning room.Because everyone wanted to be outside the inside room was not crowded at all which was great! However, the service was so slow. Our server took about 25 minutes to even acknowledge us sitting there (we were his only table at the time!) and it took us over 2 hours for the whole lunch process. Tables next to us with different servers came in after us and had food before our order was even taken. All in all the restaurant was good, the food was good, the water front view was great, but the service really needs some help! Sequoya is right next door and it is a similar type of restaurant. I will probably go there next time instead."

  • "It was a great way to start the warm weather season! Great food, great company, great time!"

  • "Way too loud, could not even carry on a conversation at our table, so we ended up just having a drink and not staying for dinner."

  • "It has been years since I went to the Georgetown waterfront and I'm not sure why I've waited to return. I brought my teenage boys with me so we didn't need anyplace upscale. We had the burgers and fish tacos and everyone enjoyed their meal. We dined outside on a weekend afternoon and enjoyed the views and the energy of the waterfront! We had great service and perfect views. This is a great and casual place to dine outside!"

  • "Although the restaurant was not full we were given a table far, far, far away. So away that it was hard to get the waitress attention. No bread, no water.... The sparkling wine I ordered was not chilly enough. The food was ok, but nothing special. I wouldn't recommend it to a friend."

  • "Food was pretty good. Had a fabulous window table overlooking the water, but we were early and the only people there. Which makes the appalling service we received so much more egregious. Our waiter ignored us. He eventually had 3 other tables, all next to us, & as he waited on them, he would turn his back on us as if we were invisible. We waited over 30 minutes just to get our check & I had to go & track down a manager to ask for it. As I was telling him that my friend and I were apparently invisible, our waiter walked up behind me & said he was giving us time to enjoy the view. Nice try. I've heard that waiters think women aren't good tippers & will focus on others. I'm generally a GREAT tipper but not with that level of horrid service"

  • "It was a fairly nice day, so we wanted to sit outside - no problem there"

  • "Last time we had seafood it was mediocre. This time we both ordered steak, it was better. The place is nice, been to better places, been to worse places."

  • "The Maryland crab cakes were amazing! My husband ordered the crab chowder and the kids tried it-- it was really good. We ended up ordering another one before our meal came. The oysters are good, but I have tasted better. My husband ordered the line-caught mahi mahi and he loved it. If only their portions were a little bit more generous I would have given them a 5 star:)"

  • "The food was very tasty, but the service was a little spotty. It was not super busy yet it seemed to take awhile to get our food. Two bowls of soup were cold and had to be heated up. On the other hand, the food was really very flavorful."

  • "The large, loud crowd of young drinkers negatively affected the ambiance but we managed to find a fairly quiet table. If we hadn't, it would have been an unpleasant meal. The food was a step, maybe two, above pub grub. It was within walking distance of our evening concert so that helped."

  • "Each year I take a group of foreign Rotarians -- this year from Australia -- to Washington for a quick tour of D.C. sites. Many desire American seafood, so Tony & Joe's is a natural. They love it, as do we from the Winchester (VA) Rotary Club. We look forward to the dinner each year. Food is good, and the service is even better."

  • "My experience was Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh-Mazing...the food was beyond delicious...everything...was Fabulous! I definitely plan to go back...again and again and again...times infinity ~_~."

  • "The waiter charged me for a slice of cake because I told him it was my daughters birthday. I have never been at a restaurant where I have had to pay for an acknowledgement of a persons birthday, the reason that I was at the restaurant in the first place. The ackonwledgement has always been complimentary from the establishment. That was disturbing to me as a customer."

  • "My wife & I had a pleasant late afternoon meal here on a blustery and cloudy cool Sunday. Service was terrific and food was much better than reviews led us to expect. Scott (bar) and Josh(restaurant) did a nice job taking care of us. We will return."

  • "wine was cold, salads were typical, the steam pot we both ordered were fair at best (and small), the tiramisu was as expected. The food was average, but nice location. Would go back, but would order different things."

  • "The host desk was unaware of whether any members of my party had arrived, so there was confusion before we were eventually seated for my 6:45 reservation. On the other hand, we were quite late and they did accommodate us. Although they had disregarded my Open Table request for a view, when I made the request in person they did accommodate us. The crab soup was bland and arrived before our appetizer did. The shrimp and grits entree was adequate, but not the standout one might expect from a "seafood place." Our waiter came by well after the entrees were served to tell us that our wine selection was not available, so we opted to go without wine. However, the corn bread and the view were excellent and we had an enjoyable time."

  • "The brunch was spectacular and the amount of options for food was stellar. It was moderate amount of people but the food was kept stocked and at the right temperature. The choices looked appetizing and I wish my stomach was larger than it was to consume it all. The service was excellent, since you didn't have a main waiter or waitress because the shared tables. So your empty plates were removed the moment you pushed it aside or it was clear of food. All of the staff seem eager to check on you and how you were doing. I still find it to be abit pricey but well worth it because the food was so good. Looking out on the potomac and eating a great meal is a great gem in Washington DC to behold and savor. Loved it."

  • "Poor flavor, pretty bad cooking times and unproportionate value food It was my first and last time to visit this poor kind testaurant."

  • "Our initial waiter was horrible! He approached our table in a rush, did not give us his name and say "welcome", and our drinks (simply soda) arrived 15 minutes later. I complained to the manager. The manager was superb! He actually took over serving our table I cannot express enough how great our meal turned out. The food was very good and came out in a reasonable timeframe. The place is unique in that the outdoor bar is extremely casual while the indoor atmosphere which looks onto the outdoor bar was a little more dressy and provided a more sedate atmosphere."

  • "Enjoyed a very nice dinner before Verizon Center concert. Excellent fish (mahi and trout) entrees and service. Clam chowder seemed like it came from a can though. Cherry pie ala mode special dessert outstanding. This is a particularly great place in nice weather sitting outside on Potomac. And inside in March not bad either."

  • "We only dine in DC occasionally when we are meeting others from around the area. Tony & Joes was recommended by another hostess and we couldn't have been more pleased with our evening. The crab cakes were great and my friends loved the seafood gumbo."

  • "Not a good experience at our bday dinner celebration on a Monday evening. Out of wine ordered, out of the entree ordered and the Calamari underdone and very small portion. Service was fair but no manager came by to check on us. Paid our bill after the appetizer and went elsewhere. Not very good customer service. Not sure I will be back. Mistakes happen but no one addressed them with the exception of the apology for the wine by the server."

  • "The deal was fantastic but the ambience at Tony and Joe's made the evening even better. The service from start to finish was outstanding and the food was excellent. My boyfriend and I do not usually treat ourselves out to fancy dinners but this was well deserved. Thank you Tony and Joe's for making our night!!!"

  • "The service was warm and welcoming yet professional. The food was delicious. I had the crab cakes and they were some of the best I've ever had. The location is scenic and fun... there was an ice rink set up just outside, but the entire walkway and courtyard was lit up with white lights."

  • "It was the perfect venue for brunch to celebrate my daughter's 31st birthday. Both the food and service were great, and the jazz combo added just the right touch. We had a great time!"

  • "The brunch was wonderful. Being able to have seafood added to an omelet was a great idea. The jazz trio had a great sound. Great waffles, salad selection and desserts. Also looking out the windows at the ice skating rink added bonus. Didn't know kids could push penguins in front if them for balance. Really cool. Thanks."

  • "The customer service was excellent. The servers know the menu. This is ALWAYS good. The food is ridiculously priced."
    Dined on 1/20/2014
  • "The food was mediocre food that I can prepare in my kitchen and I've never seen a crab cake so greasy. I would never have dinner there again, maybe a drink in the summer if all the other bars are full."

  • "Tony &Joe's was truly a great dining experience. I would definitely go there again and highly recommend it. The food was seasoned beautifully and cooked to perfection. We had the calamari as an appetizer - best I've ever tasted! My entree was the impressive swordfish (which I'm a huge fan - and critic - of). Our server(s) were polite, informative, courteous, timed everything well, and their somewhat comedic personalities came out in just the right ways to put a smile on your face as they left the table. You won't regret dining here at all :)"

  • "The scene was gorgeous! Lots of good-looking people and a great buffet presentation. The food met my standards for quality, but I would have prefered a bit more variety. We loved the omelet bar and really enjoyed chocolate mousse and oysters with our tea and Grand Marnier. This was an enjoyable dining experience, especially because we were seated at a table by the window, directly in the sunlight. The service was on par. A solid 4 stars!"

  • "Tony and Joe's is at Washington Harbor in Georgetown and overlooks the Potomac. The lobster is great, and the venue is just a short walk to the Kennedy Center along the river if you're catching a show."
