  • "We absolutely loved this spot! Great food, atmosphere, setting, and service!!"

  • "A little kitchy for my taste. Rain and floating tiki hut...did not seem to fit elegance of The Fairmont. Butterfish entree was amazing and saved the night."
    Dined on 11/12/2014
  • "Enjoyed the Mai Tai in a coconut and the Royal Pupu Platter. Delicious, authentic (except the coconut was ceramic :-) ), and well done!"

  • "Ever since I was a kid it was the Tonga Room that I heard about at the Fairmont. So we finally made it a point to go there for my birthday and we were not disappointed. Loved the floating boat with the band playing 80's & 90's music, it's a place I will be going back to for sure."

  • "15 yrs ago, Tonga was a very romantic place to dine and drink. Lights were not as bright - you can enjoy the thunder, lightning and rain more. Now ... looks like it is just a drizzle and with the bright lights ... the more it is noticeable. No more thunder and lightning. It would be nice if the lights will be dim when the band is on break so the place will be so romantic like before with the rain, thunder and lightning. Also I wish the band will sing different songs and not the same songs over and over again."

  • "Dined at the tonga room for my daughters birthday. We had so much fun. We were seated pool side which are the best seats. Our waiter was awesome. Food is pricey but good. Drinks are awesome. Great place for fun or to dance to the band."

  • "The Tonga Room is a classic. Food was great and better than we expected."

  • "The Tonga room has to be, without a doubt, the worst place to eat in San Francisco. The food is so obnoxiously priced, that it's laughable. You could eat at a 1-2 star Michelin restaurant anywhere in the city for less than what you'd pay at the Tonga Room. And what's worse, is the food is actually really poor to boot! This is a drinks-only establishment. If you're dining at the Tonga Room, you must be a tourist."

  • "I surprised my husband for his belated birthday dinner and brought him to the Tonga Room... It was our first time coming here and it was amazing. Since it was the day after Halloween, the place was fully decked out and it was pretty cool! The service was great, our server called us by our last name anytime he came over; he also made very good suggestions on drinks and food. We absolutely loved it. We can wait to come back again and see the Tonga Room in its normal element. Also, the live music is great!!! Again, I cant stress enough how much we enjoyed our dinner here. This is a must go place."

  • "A very friendly hostess called to confirm the reservation. I told her it was our first time to the Tonga and we were celebrating a special birthday for our son. She said she would give us a table by the pool. She also said she would order a special dessert for him, a flaming lava dessert. We were so excited about this night. Our table, as promised, a fantastic location by the pool. We ordered cocktails and a pupu platter with our waiter, Richard. So far so good. Dinner was different. After dinner Richard brought a dessert to our son and I asked about the flaming lava dessert that was ordered. He said they haven't done that in 2 years, but a table next to us received it. All in all the night was a big disappointment and quite costly."

  • "Two days later, we're all still raving about what a great time we had here. The ambiance is fantastic, the food is wonderful and the hostess and staff were extremely accommodating. We showed up about an hour early for our reservation & were lucky enough to be able to move the time. Can't wait to go back!! Next time, we want to be there to check out the entertainment, we were a bit too early to catch that."

  • "All the more amazing that you find this in the basement of the Grande Dame that is The Fairmont - stunning kitch fun, with awesome cocktails (Zombie and Lava Bowls you must try!) and with good food, and a great band that pumps out live classics that any age can appreciate. Loved it!"

  • "We live in St. Louis. Missouri and had a wonderful night. I was most impressed by everyone addressing us by our name. Very Unusual and I enjoyed it. The floating band was great and we danced."

  • "Go for the crazy post war (1950s) abandon. Faux Polynesia run amuck. Preserved complete with umbrella laden cocktails of dubious tropical origin. The food serves mostly to slow alcohol absorption so you can be steadier on the dance floor. We were among like minded tourists but a local young crowd pressed into the bar and crowded the dance floor, seeming to get the sweet irony of it all in these anxious days."

  • "Truly a great "Tikki Lounge/Polynesian" experience...enjoyed the floating boat with a live band on board...Fun evening, great tropical drinks- not watered down! Great experience for all ages...Service was wonderful, attentive service from our server, Bash."

  • "50 years ago I lived in SF for 6 yrs before moving to Sacramento, enjoyed occational refreshing trips back but was always remiss in getting reservations to my old favorite night spot. This past Saturday night I finally had gotten annaversary reservations for my bride and I. Absence does make the heart grow fonder! What an evening! Glorious amdiance, service, food, music and dancing... especially for an eighty year old (almost). Even my wife, who claimed not to know how to dance, greatly enjoyed our 3 - 4 romantic trips to the floor. My 12 buds back in Sacramento found it hard to believe, thinking the Tonga room had closed. Their loss! Even after blowing a bundle on 'our' chosen music, the night was magical! Keep it up! Thanks to you all!"

  • "the restaurant was nice the food was great the staff wonderful BUT... the live band was unbelievably loud. way to loud to enjoy a meal to. we could not speak to each other at all. i would never go again during live music and we had to pay $42 extra on our bill because the band was playing... i would have paid more to have them STOP playing."

  • "This place was a really great place to eat. There was an open area for a band to play in the middle of a pool and a little dance floor for people to dance on."
    Dined on 10/11/2014
  • "The food is a bit pricey for what it is, but the atmosphere makes it all worth it. My favorite things were the lagoon and the interior decoration. The food portions are on the nouvelle cuisine level, but the drinks are robust."

  • "Wow! What a great place. The South Pacific atmosphere is fantastic. Great music and dance floor. Tropical drinks with umbrellas and the works. You will love it!"

  • "Thus was great as something different. The food was great and the polensian feel was awesome. The band playing in a boat in the middle and the occasional storm with rain was great."

  • "The Tonga Room is a great restaurant for a fun dining experience. Between the ambiance and the live band, it's really hard NOT to have a great dining experience! The food is good, albeit a tad pricy given the quality. Portion size is good. Overall, we enjoyed the food but considered is good vs great. However, it was really the ambiance, decor, and live music that did it for us. The band is great and plays lots of great "happy" and "fun" music. The music selection was surprisingly diverse, but every song was recognizable. The Tonga Room would be a great place to get a cocktail and enjoy "feel good" music and maybe dance a little. Highly recommended!"

  • "I have previously been to Tonga Room one time and only had a cocktail there, but due to the fact that my boyfriend had not and he loves all things tropical and Hawaiian, I thought this would be a great place to take him for a birthday dinner. Even though we had to call and ask to push our reservation back 45 minutes, the hostess pleasantly addressed me by my last name and accommodated my request left in open table to sit next to the lagoon. Our server, Bash, was wonderful! He was extremely kind and his timing with bringing out all of our food and beverages was spot on. He also brought my boyfriend a birthday dessert and sang "Happy Birthday" to him. Finally, the food was delicious (pork buns, mahi mahi, calamari) and so were the drinks!"

  • "I say experience, as this restaurant is really for the "Tonga Experience". The drinks are strong, so make sure you take a cab and enjoy yourselves! I came with a group of four and we had the Lava Bowl, Scorpion Bowl, and some other individual drinks as well. The food was decent .. the band livens the place up along with the dance floor which we also took advantage of .. but really it's all about the atmosphere with the pool, tiki-huts, as well as a tableside "tropical storm" with rain, thunder and lightening .. definitely fun for groups! Had a great time .. deff recommend going here at least once!"

  • "So I really have nothing to complain about. I mean, the food was amazing, the ambiance was sort of similar to my expectations, and the service did it's job in bringing food and check to our table. Usually, though, if I am to play up the wahoo for dining experiences, I don't anticipate thing being done....and nothing more. I anticipate amazing service and a feeling that your experience and time at that restaurant matters to the employees. I got none of that....really. I had more fun with other paying customers than I did with those who work there."

  • "Food was very good. Drinks were wonderful. Environment and decor is reminiscent of the Polynesian flare of the 1970s. Great fun. Excellent food, not Michelin 5 star, but absolutely there were no disappointments in anyone's meals (7 of us in the party). Its different and fun. If you happen to like Travis McGee and Jimmy Buffett - all the better ! Drinks are strong and fun as well. There was a line to get in and we were glad for reservations!"

  • "In short the luau style good was minuscule in quantity compared to other restaurants and the price was outrageous for the quantity and quality they served. Fun place to have a drink but that's about it."

  • "Had my birthday here. Fun show. Be sure to reserve! Long lines await if you don't! Food better than you'd expect at a special occasion venue like Tonga Room. Outstanding and attentive service. Yummy tropical drinks. Don't miss the Kona ribs."

  • "The live band and the atmosphere they created was the best part of the experience. They sung a wide variety of songs and my friends and I were pleasantly surprised. The lead singer was awesome."
