We arrived at 6:30 to the delightfully decorated Tiki Bar and quickly began enjoying the dumplings, spring rolls, and Tiki Bar drinks. The Singapore Sling deserves your attention. And the wait staff made sure we were never in need. And then the band started to play. Don't expect high level cuisine and you won't be disappointed, but you shouldn't head here for the food. The scene and the cocktails are the draw and the Tonga delivers in spades. Drinks average about $12 each but I'm pretty sure there's several drinks in each ceramic coconut or tiki god mug.
Reservations should be considered mandatory, if you are just there for drink there is no cover as long as you don't sit down. Any seating, including dinner will incur. $7 charge pp in your party. Service felt hurried and definitely geared to flip tables.

The food was good, the drinks were great and the band was excellent. Our server was a great help and knew when to come in to see how we were doing. Have eaten and enjoyed every entertainment venue in the city during the last 30 years and still look forward to coming to the Tonga Room and bringing along friends that are looking for a special San Francisco experience.

Aside from great food and music the thing that makes the Tonga Room stand out is the STAFF! As someone that enjoys every 4 and 5 star restaurant in the city the staff here at the Tonga Room stands head and shoulder above the rest! We were there for my daughters 16th birthday. We ate dinner and danced with our kids. We had a great time. The place was packed when we arrived so service was a bit slow. The restaurant staff kept carrying boxes (kitchen /bar supplies) and a couple of folding tables back and forth to the kitchen. As a customer, I didn't like that. Overall, I've always enjoyed visiting the Tonga Room. Atmosphere is really fun. Food is quite good, but not the same caliber as other more 'foodie'-centric spots in the city. It's fun, and you ca dress up in vintage clothes and or show up in casual attire. Great for a couple and perfect for the hard to please groups.
